Abstract
Photoinduced excited-state energy transfer (EET) processes play an important role in solar energy conversions. Owing to their excellent photoharvesting and exciton-transport properties, phenylene ethynylene (PE) dendrimers display great potential for improving the efficiency of solar cells. In this work, we investigated the intramolecular EET dynamics in a dendrimer composed of two linear PE units (2-ring and 3-ring) using a fully quantum description based on the tensor network method. We first constructed a diabatic model Hamiltonian based on the electronic structure calculations. Using this diabatic vibronic coupling model, we tried to obtain the main features of the EET dynamics in terms of the several diabatic models with different numbers of vibrational modes (from 4 modes to 129 modes) and to explore the corresponding vibronic coupling interactions. The results show that the EET in this PE dendrimer is ultrafast. Four modes of A' symmetry play dominant roles in the dynamics; the remaining 86 modes of A' symmetry can dampen the electronic coherence; and the modes of A″ symmetry do not exhibit significant influence on the EET process. Overall, the first-order intrastate vibronic coupling terms show the dominant role in the EET dynamics, while the second-order intrastate vibronic coupling terms cause damping of the electronic coherence and slow down the overall EET process. This work provides a microscopic understanding of the EET dynamics in PE dendrimers.

Abstract
In this work, a systematic construction framework on a mode-combination Hamiltonian operator of a typical polyatomic reaction, OH + HO2 → O2 + H2O, is developed. First, a set of Jacobi coordinates are employed to construct the kinetic energy operator (KEO) through the polyspherical approach ( Phys. Rep. 2009, 484, 169). Second, due to the multiconfigurational electronic structure of this system, a non-adiabatic potential energy surface (PES) is constructed where the first singlet and triplet states are involved with spin-orbital coupling. To improve the training database, the training set of random energy data was optimized through a popular iterative optimization approach with extensive trajectories. Here, we propose an automatic trajectory method, instead of the classical trajectory on a crude PES, where the gradients are directly computed by the present ab initio calculations. Third, on the basis of the training set, the potential function is directly constructed in the canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) form ( J. Chem. Theory Comput. 2021, 17, 2702-2713) which is helpful in propagating the nuclear wave function under the grid-based representation. To do this, the Gaussian process regression (GPR) approach for building the CPD form, called the CPD-GPR method ( J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 2022, 13, 11128-11135) is adopted where we further revise CPD-GPR by introducing the mode-combination (mc) scheme leading to the present CPD-mc-GPR approach. Constructing the full-dimension non-adiabatic Hamiltonian operator with mode combination, as test calculations, the nuclear wave function is propagated to preliminarily compute the reactive probability of OH + HO2 → O2 + H2O where the reactants are prepared in vibrational ground states and in the first triplet electronic state.

Abstract
The multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) method and its multilayer extension (ML-MCTDH) are powerful algorithms for the efficient computation of nuclear quantum dynamics in high-dimensional systems. By providing time-dependent variational orbitals and an optimal choice of layered effective degrees of freedom, one is able to reduce the computational cost to an amenable number of configurations. However, choices related to selecting properly the mode grouping and tensor tree are strongly system dependent and, thus far, subjectively based on intuition and/or experience. Therefore, herein we detail a new protocol based on multivariate statistics─more specifically, factor analysis and hierarchical clustering─for a reliable and convenient guiding in the optimal design of such complex "system-of-systems" tensor-network decompositions. The advantages of employing the new algorithm and its applicability are tested on water and two floppy protonated water clusters with large amplitude motions.

Abstract
Femtosecond nonlinear spectroscopy is the main tool for the time-resolved detection of photophysical and photochemical processes. Since most systems of chemical interest are rather complex, theoretical support is indispensable for the extraction of the intrinsic system dynamics from the detected spectroscopic responses. There exist two alternative theoretical formalisms for the calculation of spectroscopic signals, the nonlinear response-function (NRF) approach and the spectroscopic equation-of-motion (EOM) approach. In the NRF formalism, the system-field interaction is assumed to be sufficiently weak and is treated in lowest-order perturbation theory for each laser pulse interacting with the sample. The conceptual alternative to the NRF method is the extraction of the spectroscopic signals from the solutions of quantum mechanical, semiclassical, or quasiclassical EOMs which govern the time evolution of the material system interacting with the radiation field of the laser pulses. The NRF formalism and its applications to a broad range of material systems and spectroscopic signals have been comprehensively reviewed in the literature. This article provides a detailed review of the suite of EOM methods, including applications to 4-wave-mixing and N-wave-mixing signals detected with weak or strong fields. Under certain circumstances, the spectroscopic EOM methods may be more efficient than the NRF method for the computation of various nonlinear spectroscopic signals.

Abstract
In this article, Beyond Born-Oppenheimer (BBO) treatment is implemented to construct diabatic potential energy surfaces (PESs) of 1,3,5-C6H3F3+ over a series [eighteen (18)] of two-dimensional (2D) nuclear planes constituted with eleven normal modes (Q2, Q9x, Q9y, Q13x, Q13y, Q18x, Q18y, Q10x, Q10y, Q12x and Q12y) to include all possible nonadiabatic interactions among six coupled electronic states (X̃2E'', , B̃2E' and ). We had formulated explicit expressions of adiabatic to diabatic transformation (ADT) equations [S. Mukherjee, J. Dutta, B. Mukherjee, S. Sardar and S. Adhikari, J. Chem. Phys., 2019, 150, 064308] for the same system forming six state sub-Hilbert space and at present, these ADT equations are solved by incorporating MRCI level ab initio adiabatic PESs and CP-MCSCF calculated nonadiabatic coupling terms (NACTs) to derive diabatic PESs and couplings. Such single-valued, smooth, symmetric and continuous diabatic surface matrices are utilized to carry out multi-state multi-mode nuclear dynamics with the help of time-dependent discrete variable representation (TDDVR) methodology to compute the photoelectron (PE) spectra of 1,3,5-C6H3F3. Our theoretically calculated spectra for X̃2E'', and states using BBO treatment and TDDVR dynamics show peak by peak correspondence with the experimental results as well as better than the findings of the multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) method.

Abstract
The first two excitation bands below 7 eV in the electronic absorption spectrum of maleimide are investigated using a model Hamiltonian including four low-lying singlet excited states within the manifold of 24 vibrational modes. The role of non-adiabatic effects is studied and shines light on both the broad, inter-state coupling-dominated spectral band as well as the fine-structured, not-so-strong coupled band. Calculations have been performed using the Multiconfigurational Time-Dependent Hartree (MCTDH) wavepacket propagation method as well as its multilayer version (ML-MCTDH) using a quadratic vibronic coupling (QVC) Hamiltonian model where parameters are obtained from fitting adiabatic potential energy surfaces computed by ab initio methods. The quantum dynamics calculations provide information on the relaxation dynamics and the vibrational modes involved. Already with a low-order vibronic coupling model and only a few modes being considered, a quantitative agreement with the experimental spectrum is obtained. However, it is found that all modes need to be considered to get a full picture of the photo-excited relaxation dynamics of this molecule.

Abstract
A symmetrical quasiclassical (SQC) dynamics approach based on the Li-Miller (LM) mapping Hamiltonian (SQC-LM) was employed to describe nonadiabatic dynamics. In principle, the different initial sampling procedures may be applied in the SQC-LM dynamics, and the results may be dependent on different initial sampling. We provided various initial sampling approaches and checked their influence. We selected two groups of models including site-exciton models for exciton dynamics and linear vibronic coupling models for conical intersections to test the performance of SQC-LM dynamics with the different initial sampling methods. The results were examined with respect to those of the accurate multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) quantum dynamics. For both the models, the SQC-LM method more-or-less gives a reasonable description of the population dynamics, while the influence of the initial sampling approaches on the final results is noticeable. It seems that the suitable initial sampling methods should be determined by the system under study. This indicates that the combination of the SQC-LM method with a suitable sampling approach may be a potential method in the description of nonadiabatic dynamics.

Abstract
The photodynamics of 3-hydroxychromone in its first-excited singlet electronic state (bright state of ππ* character) is investigated with special emphasis given to two types of reaction pathways: the excited-state intramolecular-proton-transfer coordinate and the hydrogen-torsion coordinate linking the excited cis and trans isomers. A newly-found conical intersection with the second-excited singlet electronic state (dark state of nπ* character) is suspected to be, to some extent, the reason for the slower rate constant. This hypothesis based on quantum-chemistry calculations is supported by quantum-dynamics simulations in full dimensionality. They show significant transfer of electronic population and provide consistently a vibronic interpretation for the forbidden band in the UV absorption spectrum.

We report the first nonadiabatic molecular dynamics study based on the exact factorization of the electron-nuclear wave function. Our approach (a coupled-trajectory mixed quantum-classical, CT-MQC, scheme) is based on the quantum-classical limit derived from systematic and controlled approximations to the full quantum-mechanical problem formulated in the exact-factorization framework. Its strength is the ability to correctly capture quantum (de)coherence effects in a trajectory-based approach to excited-state dynamics. We show this by benchmarking CT-MQC dynamics against a revised version of the popular fewest-switches surface-hopping scheme that is able to fix its well-documented overcoherence issue. The CT-MQC approach is successfully applied to investigation of the photochemistry (ring-opening) of oxirane in the gas phase, analyzing in detail the role of decoherence. This work represents a significant step forward in the establishment of the exact factorization as a powerful tool to study excited-state dynamics, not only for interpretation purposes but mainly for nonadiabatic ab initio molecular dynamics simulations.

Abstract
Multi-configurational time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) based approaches are efficient, accurate, and versatile methods for high-dimensional quantum dynamics simulations. Applications range from detailed investigations of polyatomic reaction processes in the gas phase to high-dimensional simulations studying the dynamics of condensed phase systems described by typical solid state physics model Hamiltonians. The present article presents an overview of the different areas of application and provides a comprehensive review of the underlying theory. The concepts and guiding ideas underlying the MCTDH approach and its multi-mode and multi-layer extensions are discussed in detail. The general structure of the equations of motion is highlighted. The representation of the Hamiltonian and the correlated discrete variable representation (CDVR), which provides an efficient multi-dimensional quadrature in MCTDH calculations, are discussed. Methods which facilitate the calculation of eigenstates, the evaluation of correlation functions, and the efficient representation of thermal ensembles in MCTDH calculations are described. Different schemes for the treatment of indistinguishable particles in MCTDH calculations and recent developments towards a unified multi-layer MCTDH theory for systems including bosons and fermions are discussed.

Abstract
The coupled quantum dynamics of excitonic and vibrational degrees of freedom is investigated for high-dimensional models of the Fenna-Matthews-Olson complex. This includes a seven- and an eight-site model with 518 and 592 harmonic vibrational modes, respectively. The coupling between local electronic transitions and vibrations is described within the Huang-Rhys model using parameters that are obtained by discretization of an experimental spectral density. Different pathways of excitation energy flow are analyzed in terms of the reduced one-exciton density matrix, focussing on the role of vibrational and vibronic excitations. Distinct features due to both competing time scales of vibrational and exciton motion and vibronically assisted transfer are observed. The question of the effect of initial state preparation is addressed by comparing the case of an instantaneous Franck-Condon excitation at a single site with that of a laser field excitation.

Abstract
Electron transfer at the donor-acceptor heterojunctions plays a critical role in the photoinduced process during the solar energy conversion in organic photovoltaic materials. We theoretically investigate the electron transfer process in the anthracene/C60 donor-acceptor complex by using quantum dynamics calculations. The electron-transfer model Hamiltonian with full dimensionality was built by quantum-chemical calculations. The quantum dynamics calculations were performed using the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) theory and multilayer (ML) MCTDH methods. The latter approach (ML-MCTDH) allows us to conduct the comprehensive study on the quantum evolution of the full-dimensional electron-transfer model including 4 electronic states and 246 vibrational degrees of freedom. Our quantum dynamics calculations exhibit the ultrafast anthracene → C60 charge transfer process because of the strong coupling between excitonic and charge transfer states. This work demonstrates that the ML-MCTDH is a very powerful method to treat the quantum evolution of complex systems.

Abstract
We present a novel quantum-classical approach to nonadiabatic dynamics, deduced from the coupled electronic and nuclear equations in the framework of the exact factorization of the electron-nuclear wave function. The method is based on the quasiclassical interpretation of the nuclear wave function, whose phase is related to the classical momentum and whose density is represented in terms of classical trajectories. In this approximation, electronic decoherence is naturally induced as an effect of the coupling to the nuclei and correctly reproduces the expected quantum behavior. Moreover, the splitting of the nuclear wave packet is captured as a consequence of the correct approximation of the time-dependent potential of the theory. This new approach offers a clear improvement over Ehrenfest-like dynamics. The theoretical derivation presented in this Letter is supported by numerical results that are compared to quantum mechanical calculations.

Abstract
Multilayer multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree (ML-MCTDH) theory is a rigorous and powerful method to simulate quantum dynamics in complex many-body systems. This approach extends the original MCTDH theory of Meyer, Manthe, and Cederbaum to include dynamically contracted layers in a recursive way, within which the equations of motion are determined from the Dirac-Frenkel variational principle. This paper presents the general derivation of the theory and analyzes the important features that make the ML-MCTDH method numerically efficient. Furthermore, we discuss the generalization of the theory to treat many-body identical particles (fermions or bosons) as well as calculating energy eigenstates via the improved relaxation method.

Abstract
Employing the multilayer multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree (ML-MCTDH) method in conjunction with the multistate multimode vibronic coupling Hamiltonian model, we perform a full dimensional quantum dynamical study on the naphthalene (48D) and anthracene (66D) radical cations in their six lowest-lying doublet electronic states. For easily comparing results of full and reduced dimensionalities, MCTDH simulations based on larger sizes of primitive basis functions and single-particle functions than the previous ones [S. Ghanta, V. S. Reddy, and S. Mahapatra, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 13, 14531 (2011)], are also performed. Extensive ML-MCTDH test calculations are performed to find appropriate ML separations of the wave functions (so-called ML-trees), and the convergence of the dynamical calculations are carefully checked. The ML-MCTDH method was developed for efficiently simulating quantum dynamics of large systems, and in fact the full dimensional ML-MCTDH calculations save a considerable amount of CPU-time in comparison with corresponding reduced dimensional MCTDH simulations. On basis of the present full and reduced dimensional simulations, the photoelectron (PE) spectra of these two cations are simulated and compared with corresponding experimental spectra. The agreement between theoretical and experimental PE spectra is good. Both full and reduced dimensional simulations give all main bands in the PE spectra. The vibronic energy-level positions from both ML-MCTDH and MCTDH calculations agree with corresponding experimental results. These quantum dynamical studies also complement the observations on diffuse interstellar bands with the wavelength of ~7088, ~6707, ~6490, ~6120, and ~5959 Å measured by astronomers as well as laboratory experimentalists.
