Abstract
The intermolecular interaction in difluoromethane, dichloromethane, dibromomethane, and diiodomethane dimers has been investigated using high level quantum chemical methods. The potential energy curve of intermolecular interaction along the C⋯C bond distance obtained using the coupled-cluster theory with singles, doubles, and perturbative triples excitations CCSD(T) were compared with values given by the same method, but applying the local (LCCSD(T)) and the explicitly correlated (CCSD(T)-F12) approximations. The accuracy of other theoretical methods-Hartree-Fock (HF), second order Møller-Plesset perturbation (MP2), and dispersion corrected DFT theory-were also presented. In the case of MP2 level, the canonical and the local-correlation cases combined with the density-fitting technique (DF-LMP2)theories were considered, while for the dispersion-corrected DFT, the empirically-corrected BLYP-D and the M06-2Xexchange-correlation functionals were applied. In all cases, the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set was used, and the results were corrected for the basis set superposition error (BSSE) using the counterpoise method. For each molecular system, several dimer geometries were found, and their mutual orientations were compared with the nearest neighbor orientations obtained in recent neutron scattering studies. The nature of the intermolecular interaction energy was discussed.

Abstract
This paper presents a coarse-grained molecular simulation for fullerenes based on a multipolar expansion method developed previously. The method is enabled by the construction of transferable united atoms potentials that approximate the full atomistic intermolecular interactions, as obtained from ab initio electronic structure calculations supplemented by empirical force fields and experimental data, or any combination of the above. The resultant series contains controllable moment tensors that allow to estimate the errors, and approaches the all-atom intermolecular potential as the expansion order increases. We can compute the united atoms potentials very efficiently with a few interaction moment tensors, in order to implement a parallel algorithm on molecular interactions. Our simulations describe the mechanism for the condensation of fullerenes, and they produce excellent agreement with benchmark fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations.

Abstract
This work firstly explored the potential application of a cyclic peptide nanotube (CPNT) in the separation of chloroform from a dilute solution. Four hydrophobic CPNTs of 8 × (WL)4,5 and 8 × (AL)4,5 all exhibit excellent adsorption characteristics to chloroform. The CPNT diameter, side chain structures and the concentration of chloroform in a solution all affect the adsorption characteristics of chloroform. CHCl3 molecules are overwhelmingly adsorbed on the surfaces of these CPNTs as a cluster, and sporadically reside inside the channels, consistent with the chloroform's potentials of mean force (PMFs) inside and outside the channels. The distribution characteristics, molecular orientations and interactions with the surroundings of chloroform inside and outside four CPNTs embedded in individual dilute CHCl3/water solutions were analyzed in detail, providing referable information of the adsorption characteristics of a hydrophobic CPNT to chloroform.

Abstract
Modeling fluid cycloalkanes with molecular dynamics simulations has proven to be a very challenging task partly because of lacking a reliable force field based on quantum chemistry calculations. In this paper, we construct an ab initio force field for fluid cyclopropane using the second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory. We consider 15 conformers of the cyclopropane dimer for the orientation sampling. Single-point energies at important geometries are calibrated by the coupled cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple excitation method. Dunning's correlation consistent basis sets (up to aug-cc-pVTZ) are used in extrapolating the interaction energies at the complete basis set limit. The force field parameters in a 9-site Lennard-Jones model are regressed by the calculated interaction energies without using empirical data. With this ab initio force field, we perform molecular dynamics simulations of fluid cyclopropane and calculate both the structural and dynamical properties. We compare the simulation results with those using an empirical force field and obtain a quantitative agreement for the detailed atom-wise radial distribution functions. The experimentally observed gross radial distribution function (extracted from the neutron scattering measurements) is well reproduced in our simulation. Moreover, the calculated self-diffusion coefficients and shear viscosities are in good agreement with the experimental data over a wide range of thermodynamic conditions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first ab initio force field which is capable of competing with empirical force fields for simulating fluid cyclopropane.

Abstract
Deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance ((2)H NMR) spectra of labeled molecular liquids obtained at high fields, for example, |B| = 22.3 T (950 MHz proton NMR), exhibit resolved quadrupolar splittings that reflect the average orientation of the molecules relative to B. Those residual nuclear spin interactions exhibited by benzene and chloroform provide an experimental determination of the leading tensor component of the pair correlation function for these two molecular liquids. In this way, very high-field (2)H NMR may be used to extract unambiguous information about liquid-state structure. Additionally, replicating the experimentally derived pair correlation function using molecular dynamics simulations provides a critical test of simulation force fields.
