Abstract
The structure of amphiphilic spherical brushes, consisting of the nano-SiO2 core, the hyperbranched polyamidoamine subshell, and a grafted layer of long hydrophobically modified polyacrylamide (HMPAM) chains, in aqueous solution was analyzed and described in the framework of the original mean-field approach. The scaling estimations of the hydrodynamic radius of such polymer brushes as a function of the number of grafted macromolecules allow concluding that the HMPAM shells are in a globular state and that the region of the stretched chains adjacent to the grafting surface is a minor part of the grafted macromolecules and does not have a significant impact on the self-assembly of the HMPAM shell caused by the complex hydrophobic-hydrophilic composition of their monomer units. In mean-field theory, the amphiphilic nature of HMPAM was taken into account by attaching the hydrophobic side group H to some fraction of monomer units of the hydrophilic P backbone. The strong attraction of H groups causes the aggregation of macromolecules, whereas the affinity of hydrophilic P groups to solvent forces the aggregates to increase their surface. Due to such effective surface activity, in poor solvent, the grafted amphiphilic macromolecules could form a spherical compacted structure around the nanoparticle or self-assemble into a "hedgehog" structure with several "spines" having hydrophobic core and hydrophilic shell. State diagrams, obtained theoretically, reveal that the "hedgehog" structure is preferable for a wide range of energetic parameters.

Abstract
This article is devoted to the study of polymer layers of amphiphilic homopolymers tightly grafted to a flat surface at the nodes of a square lattice. It was shown that, due to the amphiphilicity of monomer units containing groups with different affinities, in a selective solvent, such layers form lamellae perpendicular to the grafting surface. The period of the lamellae depends on the grafting density and the quality of the solvent. The results are presented in the form of a state diagram in variables "the energy of attraction of the side groups" (effective solvent quality) and "the distance between the grafting points" (inversely proportional to the square root of the grafting density). The diagram contains the regions of stability of lamellae with significantly different periods, and a transitional area with a parking garage structure. The diagram is constructed by calculating the layer-by-layer structure factor and the angle of inclination of the lamellae in the slice. The calculations were performed for different sizes of the simulation box, and the most commensurate size was determined by a special procedure for each grafting density. The results may be interesting not only to specialists in polymer science but also to all those who investigate the processes of self-organization and rearrangement in dense systems.

Abstract
By means of computer modeling, the self-organization of densely grafted macromolecules with amphiphilic monomer units as a function of macromolecular polymerization degree and solvent quality was studied and a diagram of state was constructed. The diagram contains fields of disordered distribution of monomer units and of prolonged aggregates, regions of lamellae with small and big domain spacing, and transition region. Within the transition region, the lamellae with different spacing coexist: the lamellae with big domain spacing are on the top of the grafting layer and the lamellae with small domain spacing are close to the grafting surface. The lamellae are connected with each other and form bicontinuous parking garage structure joining all side groups into a single cluster. The domain spacing of lamellae does not depend on the macromolecular length, but the width of the transition region decreases with the decrease of polymerization degree until total vanishing at relatively short macromolecules. The sharp switch between lamellae and bicontinuous structure opens the perspective for practical applications of densely grafted layers with amphiphilic monomer units.

Abstract
By means of computer modelling, the self-organization of dense planar brushes of macromolecules with amphiphilic monomer units was addressed and their state diagram was constructed. The diagram of states includes the following regions: disordered position of monomer units with respect to each other, strands composed of a few polymer chains and lamellae with different domain spacing. The transformation of lamellae structures with different domain spacing occurred within the intermediate region and could proceed through the formation of so-called parking garage structures. The parking garage structure joins the lamellae with large (on the top of the brushes) and small (close to the grafted surface) domain spacing, which appears like a system of inclined locally parallel layers connected with each other by bridges. The parking garage structures were observed for incompatible A and B groups in selective solvents, which result in aggregation of the side B groups and dense packing of amphiphilic macromolecules in the restricted volume of the planar brushes.

Abstract
The properties of surfaces with grafted macromolecules are determined by a fine structure of the macromolecular layer, whereas the mixtures of macromolecules with surfactants are very rich in structure types. Using the scaling mean-field theory, we consider the self-assembly in polymer brushes into various patterns induced by interactions with low-molecular surfactants. The interaction energies of the parts of a surfactant molecule with the polymer units are assumed to be greatly different. With increasing the grafting density, the formation of lamellae perpendicular to the grafting plane, a continuous layer with oblong or round pores, or a homogeneous brush is predicted. The driving force of the pattern formation is a gain in the interaction energy of surfactant molecules oriented at the lateral surfaces of lamellae or pores. The process of pore formation in a homogeneous brush caused by a temperature change at definite grafting densities is described as the first-order phase transition. It is accompanied by a stepwise extension of the brush and by orientational ordering of surfactant molecules. The transitions between the other patterns are of the second order. The thickness of lamellae and the distance between pores are approximately twice the surfactant molecule size except for the extremely high grafting densities. The diagrams of brush patterns are presented and discussed.

Abstract
Reversible orientational transitions in the droplets of a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) caused by the change of boundary conditions under the low intensity diode illumination are investigated. Photosensitivity of NLC is achieved by the addition of the dendrimer compound with azobenzene terminal groups. Two types of NLC droplets in glycerol are considered: the spherical droplets in the bulk of glycerol and the droplets laid-down onto the solid substrate. In the second case, the first order phase transition is revealed. The effects described can be useful for the development of highly sensitive chemical detectors and microsized photo-tunable optical devices.

Abstract
Using the Langevin dynamics method and a coarse-grained model, we have studied the formation of vesicles by hydrophobic polymers consisting of periodically placed zwitterion side groups in dilute salt-free aqueous solutions. The zwitterions, being permanent charge dipoles, provide long-range electrostatic correlations which are interfered by the conformational entropy of the polymer. Our simulations are geared towards gaining conceptual understanding in these correlated dipolar systems, where theoretical calculations are at present formidable. A competition between hydrophobic interactions and dipole-dipole interactions leads to a series of self-assembled structures. As the spacing d between the successive zwitterion side groups decreases, single chains undergo globule → disk → worm-like structures. We have calculated the Flory-Huggins χ parameter for these systems in terms of d and monitored the radius of gyration, hydrodynamic radius, spatial correlations among hydrophobic and dipole monomers, and dipole-dipole orientational correlation functions. During the subsequent stages of self-assembly, these structures lead to larger globules and vesicles as d is decreased up to a threshold value, below which no large scale morphology forms. The vesicles form via a polynucleation mechanism whereby disk-like structures form first, followed by their subsequent merger.

Abstract
The self-assembly of amphiphilic macromolecules end-grafted to a plane surface is studied using mean-field theory and computer simulations. Chain backbones are built from hydrophobic groups, whereas side groups are hydrophilic. The brush is immersed in a solvent, which can be good or poor, but on average is not far from θ conditions. It is demonstrated that the strong amphiphilicity of macromolecules at a monomer unit level leads to their self-assembly into a system of strands with a 2D hexagonal order in a cross-section parallel to the grafting plane. The structure period is determined by the length of side groups. In theory, this effect is explained by the orientation of strongly amphiphilic monomer units at a strand/solvent boundary that leads to an effective negative contribution to the surface tension. Computer simulations with molecular dynamics (MD) are used for a detailed study of the local brush structure. The aggregation number of strands grows with the increase of the grafting density and side group length.
