Abstract
Zinc(II) and cadmium(II) chlorido complexes with an N,N-chelating nopinane-annelated 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one ligand (LO) were synthesized. While the zinc(II) complex is mononuclear and adopts a tetrahedral ZnN2Cl2 coordination geometry, its cadmium(II) analogue features a 1D polymeric structure due to the bridging coordination of chlorido ligands with Cd2+ ions having an octahedral CdN2Cl4 coordination geometry. The photophysical properties of the oxygen-containing LO ligand and its zinc(II) and cadmium(II) complexes were studied in solution and in the solid state and matched against the properties of its oxygen-free 4,5-diazafluorene congener L and its complexes of the same metal ions. Comprehensive experimental and theoretical studies revealed the impact of the oxygen atom in the ligand core on the luminescence of the ligands and the complexes. For the oxygen-free L ligand and L-based complexes, the structural differences between the S0 and S1 geometries are small, which leads to fluorescence with extraordinarily small Stokes shifts. The emission of these compounds is of locally excited character for L and of mixed locally excited + ligand-to-halide charge transfer character for the L-based complexes. The introduction of the oxygen atom in the ligand core results in a drastic red-shift of the emission band due to short-range charge transfer. The differences between the S0 and S1 geometries are much more pronounced for LO and LO-based compounds than those of their oxygen-free analogues, leading to an order of magnitude larger Stokes shifts. On going from solution to the solid state, LO and its complexes exhibit aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behaviour with photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) reaching tens of percent.

Abstract
The synthesis of new chiral copper(ii) complexes with terpene derivatives of ethylenediamine and the results of studying their antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activity in vitro are discussed. All studied copper complexes (1–4) showed significantly higher antifungal activity against the strains of C. albicans, S. salmonicolor and P. notatum compared to the activity of the clinical antifungal drug amphotericin. High antibacterial activity of copper complexes with terpene derivatives of ethylenediamine was revealed against the S. aureus (MRSA) strain, which is resistant to the reference antibiotic ciprofloxacin. Using various test systems, a comparative assessment of the antioxidant activity (AOA) of the synthesized copper complexes and the ligands was carried out. The salen-type complex 4, which has the highest AOA in the model of initiated oxidation of a substrate containing animal lipids, was superior to other copper complexes in the ability to protect erythrocytes under conditions of H2O2-induced hemolysis. The synthesis of new chiral copper(ii) complexes with terpene derivatives of ethylenediamine and the results of studying their antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activity in vitro are discussed.![]()

Abstract
Abstract
The review summarizes the data on the structures and methods for the synthesis of compounds with anticancer activity based on biogenic metals, which can replace platinum drugs prevailing in cytotoxic therapy. The main focus is given to the comparison of the mechanisms of the cytotoxic action of these complexes, their efficacy and prospects of their use in clinical practice. This is the first systematic review of cytotoxic zinc, iron, cobalt and copper compounds. The structure – activity relationships and the mechanisms of antitumour action are formulated for each type of metal complexes.

Abstract
In an era of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections overshadowed by a lack of innovation in the antimicrobial drug development pipeline, there has been a resurgence in multidisciplinary approaches aimed at tackling this global health problem. One such approach is to use metal complexes as a framework for new antimicrobials. Indeed, in this context, bismuth-, silver- and gold-derived compounds in particular have displayed demonstrable antimicrobial activity. In this work, we discuss the antimicrobial and antifungal activities of terpene-derived chiral palladium complexes against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans, and Cryptococcus neoformans. It was established that all studied coordination compounds of palladium were highly active antifungal drugs. In contrast, the subset of palladacycles possessing a palladium–carbon bond were only active against the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. All compounds were inactive against the Gram-negative bacteria tested.
