Abstract
Micro/nanomotors represent a promising class of drug delivery carriers capable of converting surrounding chemical or external energy into mechanical power, enabling autonomous movement. Their distinct autonomous propulsive force distinguishes them from other carriers, offering significant potential for enhancing drug penetration across cellular and tissue barriers. A comprehensive understanding of micro/nanomotor dynamics with various power sources is crucial to facilitate their transition from proof-of-concept to clinical application. In this review, micro/nanomotors are categorized into three classes based on their energy sources: endogenously stimulated, exogenously stimulated, and live cell-driven. The review summarizes the mechanisms governing micro/nanomotor movements under these energy sources and explores factors influencing autonomous motion. Furthermore, it discusses methods for controlling micro/nanomotor movement, encompassing aspects related to their structure, composition, and environmental factors. The remarkable propulsive force exhibited by micro/nanomotors makes them valuable for significant biomedical applications, including tumor therapy, bio-detection, bacterial infection therapy, inflammation therapy, gastrointestinal disease therapy, and environmental remediation. Finally, the review addresses the challenges and prospects for the application of micro/nanomotors. Overall, this review emphasizes the transformative potential of micro/nanomotors in overcoming biological barriers and enhancing therapeutic efficacy, highlighting their promising clinical applications across various biomedical fields.

Abstract
Near-infrared-II (NIR-II) photothermal therapy is emerging as a cutting-edge modality for tumor ablation due to its good biosafety, high penetration ability and spatiotemporal controllability. Despite efforts, establishing a link between cellular metabolic regulation and photothermal performance is still promising in synergistic cancer therapy. Herein, we developed a core-shell semiconducting polymer@metal-phenolic network (SP@GFP) nanomotor by assembling diphenol-terminated cisplatin prodrug ligand (cPt-DA) and iron (III) (Fe3+) through metal coordination on SP particles in the presence of GOx and DSPE-PEG-cRGD, for NIR-II-propelled self-propulsion and synergistic cancer therapy. Remotely driving the SP@GFP nanomotor with an NIR-II laser through a thermophoresis mechanism would allow for in-depth penetration and accumulation. The synergistic photothermal effect and continuous Fe2+-mediated ROS generation of SP@GFP nanomotor could activate photothermal, chemotherapeutic effects and ferroptosis pathway for cancer cells through reshaping cellular metabolic pathways (HSP and GPX4). By combining the concepts of chemotherapeutic prodrugs, catalytic ROS generation, photothermal response and cellular metabolic regulation, the NIR-II laser-controlled core-shell SP@GFP nanomotor displayed improved outcomes for enhanced cancer therapy through synergistic oxidative stress-photothermo modulation. Abstract
Artificial micro/nanomotors using active particles hold vast potential in applications such as drug delivery and microfabrication. However, upgrading them to micro/nanorobots capable of performing precise tasks with sophisticated functions remains challenging. Bubble microthruster (BMT) is introduced, a variation of the bubble-driven microrobot, which focuses the energy from a collapsing microbubble to create an inertial impact on nearby target microparticles. Utilizing ultra-high-speed imaging, the microparticle mass and density is determined with sub-nanogram resolution based on the relaxation time characterizing the microparticle's transient response. Master curves of the BMT method are shown to be dependent on the viscosity of the solution. The BMT, controlled by a gamepad with magnetic-field guidance, precisely manipulates target microparticles, including bioparticles. Validation involves measuring the polystyrene microparticle mass and hollow glass microsphere density, and assessing the mouse embryo mass densities. The BMT technique presents a promising chip-free, real-time, highly maneuverable strategy that integrates bubble microrobot-based manipulation with precise bioparticle mass and density detection, which can facilitate microscale bioparticle characterizations such as embryo growth monitoring.

Abstract
Synthetic micro/nanomotors have been extensively exploited over the past decade to achieve active transportation. This interest is a result of their broad range of potential applications, from environmental remediation to nanomedicine. Nevertheless, it still remains a challenge to build a fast-moving biodegradable polymeric nanomotor. Here we present a light-propelled nanomotor by introducing gold nanoparticles (Au NP) onto biodegradable bowl-shaped polymersomes (stomatocytes) via electrostatic and hydrogen bond interactions. These biodegradable nanomotors show controllable motion and remarkable velocities of up to 125 μm s-1. This unique behavior is explained via a thorough three-dimensional characterization of the nanomotor, particularly the size and the spatial distribution of Au NP, with cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). Our in-depth quantitative 3D analysis reveals that the motile features of these nanomotors are caused by the nonuniform distribution of Au NPs on the outer surface of the stomatocyte along the z-axial direction. Their excellent motile features are exploited for active cargo delivery into living cells. This study provides a new approach to develop robust, biodegradable soft nanomotors with application potential in biomedicine.

Abstract
An active droplet system, programmed to repeatedly move autonomously at a specific velocity in a well-defined direction, is demonstrated. Coulombic energy is stored in oversaturated interfacial assemblies of charged nanoparticle-surfactants by an applied DC electric field and can be released on demand. Spontaneous emulsification is suppressed by an increase in the stiffness of the oversaturated assemblies. Rapidly removing the field releases the stored energy in an explosive event that propels the droplet, where thousands of charged microdroplets are ballistically ejected from the surface of the parent droplet. The ejection is made directional by a symmetry breaking of the interfacial assembly, and the combined interaction force of the microdroplet plume on one side of the droplet propels the droplet distances tens of times its size, making the droplet active. The propulsion is autonomous, repeatable, and agnostic to the chemical composition of the nanoparticles. The symmetry-breaking in the nanoparticle assembly controls the microdroplet velocity and direction of propulsion. This mechanism of droplet propulsion will advance soft micro-robotics, establishes a new type of active matter, and introduces new vehicles for compartmentalized delivery.

Abstract
In this work, we report a one-step synthesis of ternary Z-scheme Co(OH)2/CeO2-g-C3N4 (CoCe-CN) heterostructure via hydrothermal method. Owing to the modification of Co(OH)2 and CeO2, the existence of Co(OH)2 as an electron acceptor-donor center between CeO2 and g-C3N4 accelerates the electron transfer and provides extra OH- reaction pathway for photocatalytic oxidation of NO. As a result, 50CoCe-CN (Co and Ce accounting for 25% mass ratio separately) achieved a 53.5% conversion efficiency of NO at 600 ppb concentration, which is 1.82 times that of g-C3N4 under visible light. The results of the DFT analysis and element distribution of cobalt and ceria provide convincing evidence supporting the existence of a novel multi-layer structure in the CoCe-CN photocatalyst. This structure involves the loading of CeO2 and Co(OH)2 on the g-C3N4 surface, and Co(OH)2 as a co-catalyst introduced between CeO2 and g-C3N4 realizes the synergy between CeO2 and Co(OH)2 which further improve the photocatalytic properties. The higher photocatalytic efficiencies observed in the CoCe-CN photocatalysts compared to those containing only cobalt (Co-CN) or ceria (Ce-CN) provide further evidence of the synergistic effect of these two elements. This work demonstrates a more efficient and effective ternary photocatalytic system, with greater practical potential for photocatalytic oxidation of NO.

Abstract
Self-propelled nanomotors represent a promising class of adaptable and versatile technologies with broad applications in the realms of biomedicine and environmental remediation. Herein, we report a biocatalytic nanomotor based on a covalent-organic framework (COF) that demonstrates intelligent and switchable motion triggered by a blue-to-red light switch. Consequently, when exposed to blue light, the nanomotor significantly enhances the removal of contaminants in aqueous solutions due to its elevated mobility. Conversely, it effectively deactivates its motion and contaminant removal upon exposure to red light. This study explores the heterogeneous assembly strategy of the COF-based nanomotor and its light-controlled propulsion performance and provides a novel strategy for the regulation of movement, offering valuable insights for the design and practical applications of nanomotors.

Abstract
An efficient and cost-effective therapeutic vaccine is highly desirable for the prevention and treatment of cancer, which helps to strengthen the immune system and activate the T cell immune response. However, initiating such an adaptive immune response efficiently remains challenging, especially the deficient antigen presentation by dendritic cells (DCs) in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Herein, an efficient and dynamic antigen delivery system based on the magnetically actuated OVA-CaCO3 -SPIO robots (OCS-robots) is rationally designed for active immunotherapy. Taking advantage of the unique dynamic features, the developed OCS-robots achieve controllable motion capability under the rotating magnetic field. Specifically, with the active motion, the acid-responsiveness of OCS-robots is beneficial for the tumor acidity attenuating and lysosome escape as well as the subsequent antigen cross-presentation of DCs. Furthermore, the dynamic OCS-robots boost the crosstalk between the DCs and antigens, which displays prominent tumor immunotherapy effect on melanoma through cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). Such a strategy of dynamic vaccine delivery system enables the active activation of immune system based on the magnetically actuated OCS-robots, which presents a plausible paradigm for incredibly efficient cancer immunotherapy by designing multifunctional and novel robot platforms in the future.

Abstract
Micro-/nanomotors with advanced motion manipulation have recently received mounting interest; however, research focusing on the motion regulation strategies is still limited, as the simple construction and composition of micro-/nanomotors restrict the functionality. Herein, a multifunctional TiO2-SiO2-mesoporous carbon nanomotor is synthesized via an interfacial superassembly strategy. This nanomotor shows an asymmetric matchstick-like structure, with a head composed of TiO2 and a tail composed of SiO2. Mesoporous carbon is selectively grown on the surface of TiO2 through surface-charge-mediated assembly. The spatially anisotropic distribution of the photocatalytic TiO2 domain and photothermal carbon domain enables multichannel control of the motion, where the speed can be regulated by energy input and the directionality can be regulated by wavelength. Upon UV irradiation, the nanomotor exhibits a head-leading self-diffusiophoretic motion, while upon NIR irradiation, the nanomotor exhibits a tail-leading self-thermophoretic motion. As a proof-of-concept, this mechanism-switchable nanomotor is employed in wavelength-regulated targeted cargo delivery on a microfluidic chip. From an applied point of view, this nanomotor holds potential in biomedical applications such as active drug delivery and phototherapy. From a fundamental point of view, this research can provide insight into the relationship between the nanostructures, propulsion mechanisms, and motion performance.

Abstract
Interactions between active materials lead to collective behavior and even intelligence beyond the capability of individuals. Such behaviors are prevalent in nature and can be observed in animal colonies, providing these species with diverse capacities for communication and cooperation. In artificial systems, however, collective intelligence systems interacting with biological entities remains unexplored. Herein, we describe black (B)-TiO2@N/Au nanorobots interacting through photocatalytic pure water splitting-induced electrophoresis that exhibit periodic swarming oscillations under programmed near-infrared light. The periodic chemical-electric field generated by the oscillating B-TiO2@N/Au nanorobot swarm leads to local neuron activation in vitro. The field oscillations and neurotransmission from synchronized neurons further trigger the resonance oscillation of neuron populations without synaptic contact (about 2 mm spacing), in different ways from normal neuron oscillation requiring direct contact. We envision that the oscillating nanorobot swarm platforms will shed light on contactless communication of neurons and offer tools to explore interactions between neurons.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Oral administration is the most common route for treating colonic diseases that present increased incidences in recent years. Colonic mucus is a critical rate-limiting barrier for the accumulation of oral therapeutics in the colonic tissues. To overcome this obstacle, mucus-penetrating nanotherapeutics have been exploited to increase the accumulated amounts of drugs in the diseased sites and improve their treatment outcomes against colonic diseases. AREAS COVERED In this review, we introduce the structure and composition of colonic mucus as well as its impact on the bioavailability of oral drugs. We also introduce various technologies used in the construction of mucus-penetrating nanomedicines (e.g. surface modification of polymers, physical means and biological strategies) and discuss their mechanisms and potential techniques for improving mucus penetration of nanotherapeutics. EXPERT OPINION The mucus barrier is often overlooked in oral drug delivery. The weak mucus permeability of conventional medications greatly lowers drug bioavailability. This challenge can be addressed through physical, chemical and biological technologies. In addition to the reported methods, promising approaches may be discovered through interdisciplinary research that further helps enhance the mucus penetration of nanomedicines.

Abstract
Colloidal microswarms have attracted increasing attention in the last decade due to their unique capabilities in various complex tasks. Thousands or even millions of tiny active agents are gathered with distinctive features and emerging behaviors, demonstrating fascinating equilibrium and non-equilibrium collective states. In recent studies, with the development of materials design, remote control strategies, and the understanding of pair interactions between building blocks, microswarms have shown advantages in manipulation and targeted delivery tasks with high adaptability and on-demand pattern transformation. This review focuses on the recent progress in active micro/nanoparticles (MNPs) in colloidal microswarms under the input of an external field, including the response of MNPs to external fields, MNP-MNP interactions, and MNP-environment interactions. A fundamental understanding of how building blocks behave in a collective system provides the foundation for designing microswarm systems with autonomy and intelligence, aiming for practical application in diverse environments. It is envisioned that colloidal microswarms will significantly impact active delivery and manipulation applications on small scales.

Abstract
Micro/nanomotors are containers that pass through liquid media and carry cargo. Because they are tiny, micro/nanomotors exhibit excellent potential for biosensing and disease treatment applications. However, their size also makes overcoming random Brownian forces very challenging for micro/nanomotors moving on targets. Additionally, to achieve desired practical applications, the expensive materials, short lifetimes, poor biocompatibility, complex preparation methods, and side effects of micro/nanomotors must be addressed, and potential adverse effects must be evaluated both in vivo and in practical applications. This has led to the continuous development of key materials for driving micro/nanomotors. In this work, we review the working principles of micro/nanomotors. Metallic and nonmetallic nanocomplexes, enzymes, and living cells are explored as key materials for driving micro/nanomotors. We also consider the effects of exogenous stimulations and endogenous substance conditions on micro/nanomotor motions. The discussion focuses on micro/nanomotor applications in biosensing, treating cancer and gynecological diseases, and assisted fertilization. By addressing micro/nanomotor shortcomings, we propose directions for further developing and applying micro/nanomotors.

Abstract
Micromachines gain momentum in the applications for environmental remediation. Magnetic components have been used to functionalize light-responsive micromachines to achieve efficient magnetic microrobots with photodegradation activity for decomposition of environmental pollutants. However, the influence of photocatalyst itself on the trajectory of micromotors in conjunction with magnetic motion was never considered. In this work, light-powered catalysis and transversal rotating magnetic field have been independently and simultaneously applied over Fe3O4@BiVO4 microrobots to investigate the dynamics of their hybrid motion. Light exposure of microrobots results in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which power the microrobots, in addition to magnetic powered motion, and have a strong influence on the magnetic trajectories, resulting in an unexpected alteration of the direction of the motion of the microrobots. We have subsequently applied such magnetic/light powered micromachines for removal of microplastics in cigarette filter residues, one of the major contributors to the microplastic pollution, and dyes via photocatalysis. Such dual orthogonal propulsion modes act independently on the motion of the micromachines; and they also bring additional functionality as photodegradation agents. Hence, the dual magnetic/photocatalytic microrobots shall find a variety of catalytic applications in different fields.

Abstract
This article provides a review of the recent development of biomimicking behaviors in active colloids. While the behavior of biological microswimmers is undoubtedly influenced by physics, it is frequently guided and manipulated by active sensing processes. Understanding the respective influences of the surrounding environment can help to engineering the desired response also in artificial swimmers. More often than not, the achievement of biomimicking behavior requires the understanding of both biological and artificial microswimmers swimming mechanisms and the parameters inducing mechanosensory responses. The comparison of both classes of microswimmers provides with analogies in their dependence on fuels, interaction with boundaries and stimuli induced motion, or taxis.

Abstract
Taxis orientation is common in microorganisms, and it provides feasible strategies to operate active colloids as small-scale robots. Collective taxes involve numerous units that collectively perform taxis motion, whereby the collective cooperation between individuals enables the group to perform efficiently, adaptively, and robustly. Hence, analyzing and designing collectives is crucial for developing and advancing microswarm toward practical or clinical applications. In this review, natural taxis behaviors are categorized and synthetic microrobotic collectives are discussed as bio-inspired realizations, aiming at closing the gap between taxis strategies of living creatures and those of functional active microswarms. As collective behaviors emerge within a group, the global taxis to external stimuli guides the group to conduct overall tasks, whereas the local taxis between individuals induces synchronization and global patterns. By encoding the local orientations and programming the global stimuli, various paradigms can be introduced for coordinating and controlling such collective microrobots, from the viewpoints of fundamental science and practical applications. Therefore, by discussing the key points and difficulties associated with collective taxes of different paradigms, this review potentially offers insights into mimicking natural collective behaviors and constructing intelligent microrobotic systems for on-demand control and preassigned tasks.

Abstract
Nano/micromotors are a class of active matter that can self-propel converting different types of input energy into kinetic energy. The huge efforts that are made in this field over the last years result in remarkable advances. Specifically, a high number of publications have dealt with biomedical applications that these motors may offer. From the first attempts in 2D cell cultures, the research has evolved to tissue and in vivo experimentation, where motors show promising results. In this Perspective, an overview over the evolution of motors with focus on bio-relevant environments is provided. Then, a discussion on the advances and challenges is presented, and eventually some remarks and perspectives of the field are outlined.

Abstract
Thermal metamaterials provide rich control of heat transport which is becoming the foundation of cutting-edge applications ranging from chip cooling to biomedical. However, due to the fundamental laws of physics, the manipulation of heat is much more constrained in conventional thermal metamaterials where effective heat conduction with Onsager reciprocity dominates. Here, through the inclusion of thermal convection and breaking the Onsager reciprocity, we unveil a regime in thermal metamaterials and transformation thermotics that goes beyond effective heat conduction. By designing a liquid-solid hybrid thermal metamaterial, we demonstrate a continuous switch from thermal cloaking to thermal concentration in one device with external tuning. Underlying such a switch is a topology transition in the virtual space of the thermotic transformation which is achieved by tuning the liquid flow via external control. These findings illustrate the extraordinary heat transport in complex multicomponent thermal metamaterials and pave the way toward an unprecedented regime of heat manipulation.

Abstract
Here, we report the first PbS quantum dot (QD)-based micromotors with NIR-I light-driven photocatalytic propulsion and NIR-II fluorescence. Under the irradiation of NIR-I light (808 nm), PbS QD-doped cuprous oxide (Cu2O@PbS) micromotors can display efficient propulsion in a variety of biocompatible fuels such as malic acid, glucose, and urea. Among them, the Cu2O@PbS micromotors exhibit the best propulsion performance in a very low concentration of malic acid, with an average speed as high as 11.86 μm/s. The enhanced NIR-I photocatalytic activity of Cu2O@PbS micromotors benefits from the doping of NIR-I PbS QDs that can be excited by NIR-I light and exhibit high electron transport efficiency. The doped PbS QDs can effectively increase the absorption efficiency of the micromotors in the NIR-I region while also inhibiting the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Interestingly, due to the presence of NIR PbS QDs, the Cu2O@PbS micromotors demonstrate prominent and stable NIR-II fluorescence (emission wavelength: 1100 nm), which offer promising potential for visualization of their position in vivo. In comparison to other photocatalytic micromotors, the simple fabrication strategy, excellent NIR-II fluorescence, together with the NIR-I light-dependent propulsion behavior of the current Cu2O@PbS micromotors, thus pave the way for further development of advanced smart "robots" for intelligent biomedical applications.

Abstract
Mass transfer is an essential factor determining photocatalytic performance, which can be modulated by fluid field via manipulating the kinetic characteristics of photocatalysts and photocatalytic intermediates. Past decades have witnessed the efforts and achievements made in manipulating mass transfer based on photocatalyst structure and composition design, and thus, a critical survey that scrutinizes the recent progress in this topic is urgently necessitated. This review examines the basic principles of how mass transfer behavior impacts photocatalytic activity accompanying with the discussion on theoretical simulation calculation including fluid flow speed and pattern. Meanwhile, newly emerged viable photocatalytic micro/nanomotors with self-thermophoresis, self-diffusiophoresis, and bubble-propulsion mechanisms as well as magnet-actuated photocatalytic artificial cilia for facilitating mass transfer will be covered. Furthermore, their applications in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, carbon dioxide reduction, organic pollution degradation, bacteria disinfection and so forth are scrutinized. Finally, a brief summary and future outlook are presented, providing a viable guideline to those working in photocatalysis, mass transfer, and other related fields.

Abstract
The application of the active colloids is strongly related to their self-propulsion velocity, which is controlled by the generated anisotropic concentration field. We investigated the effect of this anisotropy on velocity induced by numerical treatments and size of Janus colloids. The far-field approximation is effective in estimating the velocity, even though it neglects the shape effect on the anisotropy of the concentration field. If the surface mobility contrast between the active and the inert part is moderate, the spherical approximation is feasible for sphere-like Janus colloids. Legendre expansion of the concentration field causes artificial anisotropy. Raising the order of the expansion can suppress this effect, but also distorts the concentration field at the top of active part. Thus, the order of the expansion should be chosen carefully depending on the goal of the study. Based on the verified Legendre expansion method and ionic-diffusiophoresis model, we show that due to the size-effect on both the concentration field and the surface mobility, increasing size of colloids can lower the self-propulsion velocity. Our finding is consistent with previous experimental observations without fitting parameter, shedding new light on the self-propulsion mechanism of chemically-driven active colloids. We further show a velocity reversal at high overall ζ potential induced by increasing size, providing a new way for controlling the dynamics of acitve colloids.

Abstract
Biofilm eradication from medical implants is of fundamental importance, and the treatment of biofilm-associated pathogen infections on inaccessible biliary stents remains challenging. Magnetically driven microrobots with controlled motility, accessibility to the tiny lumen, and swarm enhancement effects can physically disrupt the deleterious biostructures while not developing drug resistance. Magnetic urchin-like capsule robots (MUCRs) loaded with magnetic liquid metal droplets (MLMDs, antibacterial agents) are designed using natural sunflower pollen, and the therapeutic effect of swarming MUCR@MLMDs is explored for eradicating complex mixtures of bacterial biofilm within biliary stents collected from patients. The external magnetic field triggers the emergence of the microswarm and induces MLMDs to transform their shape into spheroids and rods with sharp edges. The inherent natural microspikes of MUCRs and the obtained sharp edges of MLMDs actively rupture the dense biological matrix and multiple species of embedded bacterial cells by exerting mechanical force, finally achieving synergistic biofilm eradication. The microswarm is precisely and rapidly deployed into the biliary stent via endoscopy in 10 min. Notably, fluoroscopy imaging is used to track and navigate the locomotion of microswarm in biliary stents in real-time. The microswarm has great potential for treating bacterial biofilm infections associated with medical implants.

Abstract
Background: Drugs based on synthetic lethality have advantages such as inhibiting tumor growth and affecting normal tissue in vivo. However, specific targets for osteosarcoma have not been acknowledged yet. In this study, a non-targeted but controllable drug delivery system has been applied to selectively enhance synthetic lethality in osteosarcoma in vitro, using the magnetic-driven hydrogel microrobots. Methods: In this study, EPZ015666, a PRMT5 inhibitor, was selected as the synthetic lethality drug. Then, the drug was carried by hydrogel microrobots containing Fe3O4. Morphological characteristics of the microrobots were detected using electron microscopy. In vitro drug effect was detected by the CCK-8 assay kit, Western blotting, etc. Swimming of microrobots was observed by a timing microscope. Selective inhibition was verified by cultured tumors in an increasing magnetic field. Results: Genomic mutation of MTAP deletion occurred commonly in pan-cancer in the TCGA database (nearly 10.00%) and in osteosarcoma in the TARGET database (23.86%). HOS and its derivatives, 143B and HOS/MNNG, were detected by MTAP deletion according to the CCLE database and RT-PCR. EPZ015666, the PRMT5 inhibitor, could reduce the SDMA modification and inhibition of tumor growth of 143B and HOS/MNNG. The hydrogel microrobot drug delivery system was synthesized, and the drug was stained by rhodamine. The microrobots were powered actively by a magnetic field. A simulation of the selected inhibition of microrobots was performed and lower cell viability of tumor cells was detected by adding a high dose of microrobots. Conclusion: Our magnetic-driven drug delivery system could carry synthetic lethality drugs. Meanwhile, the selective inhibition of this system could be easily controlled by programming the strength of the magnetic field.

Abstract
Due to the highly flexible reconfiguration of swarms, collective behaviors have provided various natural organisms with a powerful adaptivity to the complex environment. To mimic these natural systems and construct artificial intelligent soft materials, self-propelled colloidal motors that can convert diverse forms of energy into swimming-like movement in fluids afford an ideal model system at the micro-/nanoscales. Through the coupling of local gradient fields, colloidal motors driven by chemical reactions or externally physical fields can assembly into swarms with adaptivity. Here, we summarize the progress on reconfigurable assembly of colloidal motors which is driven and modulated by chemical reactions and external fields (e.g., light, ultrasonic, electric, and magnetic fields). The adaptive reconfiguration behaviors and the corresponding mechanisms are discussed in detail. The future directions and challenges are also addressed for developing colloidal motor-based interactive soft matter materials and systems with adaptation and interactive functions comparable to that of natural systems.
