Abstract
INTRODUCTION To help general dentistry residents better manage the intracanal broken instrument situation, we introduced a hands-on training course into the endodontic curriculum of a general dentistry residency programme. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty general dentistry residents and 30 residents with endodontic specialty training background in a general hospital served as the experimental group and reference group, respectively. The experimental group underwent a training course including a 30-min lecture and two hands-on sessions (2 h each). After the course, residents from both groups were asked to perform the instrument removal procedure on simulated root canals. Success rate, procedure time and canal volume change were compared between groups. Questionnaire results were also analysed. RESULTS All residents successfully managed to remove the broken instruments in the test. Procedure time was significantly longer for general dentistry residents (15.8 ± 5.7 min vs 13.7 ± 4.5 min, Mann-Whitney U test, p = .038). Canal volume change was significantly greater for general dentistry residents (8.53 ± 3.82 μl vs 5.94 ± 2.73 μl, independent-samples t-test, p = .004). In the questionnaires, trainees gave overall positive ratings for the course. The marginal homogeneity test on before and after scores of the questionnaire items showed the training helped the trainees to reduce the stress level associated with instrument breakage (p < .001). It also motivated the trainees to remove the broken instrument in some straightforward cases (p < .001). CONCLUSION The broken instrument removal training course could help the general dentistry residents better manage the intracanal broken instrument situation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Educational research is essential for rationalizing curriculum design, improving evaluation systems, and updating teaching content. This bibliometric study aimed at analyzing the characteristics of publications relevant to endodontic education, thus forming a comprehensive scope of this research area. METHODS The search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection database in May 2022. Knowledge units of the included publications, such as year of publication, journal, country/institution/author, keywords, and highly cited articles/references, were analyzed. RESULTS The United States ranked first in the number of articles with a total of 17 articles. The majority of included articles were published in Journal of Dental Education (n = 25), International Endodontic Journal (n = 21), and European Journal of Dental Education (n = 14). The top 3 most frequent keywords were Endodontics, Education, and Root canal treatment. The main topic in endodontic education were curriculum, preclinical education, educational technology, and continuing education. CONCLUSION Forming a full scope of the endodontic research area, this bibliomertic analysis can help mine the hot topic, predict the frontiers in the field and provide the data necessary to determine the direction of research, rationalize resource allocation, and formulate policy.

Radioimaging in the Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effect of the Vegetable Extract Obtained from Epilobium Parviflorum Schreb. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2022. Abstract
For years, apical microleakage has been considered the main factor in endodontic failure therapy. Sealing abilities and antibacterial properties of root canal sealers and intracanal medicaments between appointments have been recognized as important factors for the success of endodontic treatment. Background: Apical periodontitis (AP) is an inflammatory disease around the apex of a tooth root. The microorganisms reach the pulp by dentinal tubules especially when there is an open cavity after a coronal fracture and the pulp is in contact with the septic oral environment. The aim of the study was to evaluate the dynamics of healing by recording periapical index (PAI), after two appointment endodontic procedure with commercial or experimental intracanal medicament. Methods: A total of 40 patients with primary chronic apical periodontitis requiring root canal treatment were assigned randomly into four groups according to the teeth medicated with dehydrated plant extract, calcium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide mixed with chlorhexidine (CHX) gel 2%, Walkhoff paste and obturated on a second visit, 7 days later. Patients were recalled at intervals of 3, 6, and 12 months to evaluate the treated teeth both clinically and radiographically for periapical healing. A 5-score scale PAI was used to evaluate stages of the periapical healing on a periapical radiography using a Kodak Dental imaging software provided by the radio-imagistic center. Results: Radiological evaluation revealed that the experimental intracanal medicament had a cumulative positive healing capacity by reducing the PAI as well as all resorbable pastes used in endodontic conventional therapy. Conclusions: The results suggest that the vegetable dry extract obtained from Epilobium parviflorum Schreb can be used as an inter-appointment medication among with the root canal filling for the positive effect on apical healing quantified by reducing the PAI.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the effect of a continuing education course on technical quality and treatment outcome for root filled permanent teeth in Møre and Romsdal County, Norway. METHODOLOGY Fifty-two dentists employed in the Public Dental Service in Møre and Romsdal county, Norway, completed a two-day continuing education course in root canal treatment. Periapical radiographs of root filled teeth treated before and after the course, with at least one-year follow-up were identified and scored for technical quality and periapical status. Technical root filling quality was assessed by density and length and the treatment outcome by PAI scores. Treatment information was achieved from the county's electronic dental record system. Information regarding the dental practitioners' background and treatment procedure routines was collected by a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics analyses and mixed-effect logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the effect of the course. RESULTS Radiographs were available for 224 teeth root filled before and for 221 teeth after the course. The proportion of teeth with adequate root filling quality was significantly lower after the course (p = .006), associated mainly with short root fillings (p < .001). No significant differences were observed in treatment outcome. There were, however, large differences in treatment outcome amongst subgroups of dentists. Further, there was evidence of effect modification by the continuing education course on periapical outcome by patient's age (pinteraction = .0023) suggesting that teeth in patients ≤18 years healed relatively better post-course compared to patients >18 years. CONCLUSIONS A two-day continuing education course in root canal treatment attended by Public Dental Service dentists in Norway did not improve the technical quality of root fillings or periapical status associated with root filled teeth.
