Abstract
PURPOSE Second primary cancers (SPCs) after nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) are rare, but have an impact on the follow-up of this patient population. The aim of this study is to systematically review the literature to determine the prevalence and most typical sites of SPCs after NPC. METHODS We searched the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus for articles on SPCs after NPC. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses guidelines were followed. RESULTS This review includes data on 89 168 patients with NPC from 21 articles. The mean occurrence for SPCs was 6.6% and varied from 4.9% in endemic areas to 8.7% in non-endemic areas. The most frequent locations of SPCs were oral cavity, pharynx, nose and paranasal sinuses, esophagus and lung. CONCLUSION There is an increased risk for a SPC after NPC management, especially in non-endemic areas. However, their mean rate is lower than after other head and neck carcinomas.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Second primary cancer is a common event in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. However, the incidence and relevant factors vary by studies. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies to estimate the incidence and relevant risk factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed and Web of Science were searched for studies published between January 2000 and December 2020 that reported the incidence of SPC in HNSCC patients. Per 1000-person-year incidence and odds ratios were used to estimate the incidence and potential risk factors. Due to the high heterogeneity, random-effects models were used to estimate the incidence and 95% confidence interval. RESULTS Seven thousand seven hundred thirteen articles were identified from the databases, in which 60 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled incidence of the total, synchronous, and metachronous SPC in patients with HNSCC were 29.116 per 1000-person-year, 6.960 per 1000-person-year, and 26.025 per 1000-person-year, respectively. The head and neck region was the most common area where SPC occurred, followed by the lung (7.472 per 1000-person-year) and upper digestive tract (2.696 per 1000-person-year). Smoking, alcohol consumption, betel quid chewing, primary cancer of T1-2, and N0 were risk factors, while HPV infection (OR 0.47, 95% CI 0.30-0.72) was the protective factor. CONCLUSIONS SPC is frequently observed in HNSCC patients and had great impact on the prognosis. The findings could promote a more individualized follow-up strategy for SPC in HNSCC patients. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This systemic review and meta-analysis provide sufficient evidence for the establishment of the follow-up strategy for head and neck squamous cancer patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate epidemiological, clinical and oncological outcomes of young patients with laryngeal cancer (LC). METHODS PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched by three researchers for studies investigating epidemiological, clinical and oncological outcomes of patients with age < 40 years old and LC. The following outcomes were investigated with PRISMA criteria: age; ethnicity; gender; tobacco/alcohol habits; anatomical, pathological, therapeutic and survival features. Authors performed a bias analysis of papers and provided recommendations for future studies. RESULTS Seventeen papers published between 1982 and 2021 met our inclusion criteria, accounting for 928 patients with age < 40 years (female/male ratio: 2:5). There were on average 54.2 and 45.8% of smokers and drinkers. The tumor location mainly consisted of glottis (70.1%), supraglottis (27.7%) and subglottis (2.2%). Radiation therapy was the main therapeutic strategy used in young adults with LC. The 2-year overall survival ranged from 50 to 100% and depended on tumor stage, treatment, and cohort features. Four studies reported better overall survival in young compared with old adults, while there were no significant differences in three studies. There was an important heterogeneity between studies regarding the inclusion/exclusion criteria, epidemiological, clinical, pathological and treatment. CONCLUSION It was suggested that young patients with LC had lower proportion of smokers and drinkers and better overall survival compared with older but both data of the current literature and heterogeneity between studies limit us to draw definitive conclusions.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The aim of thi study was to review the recent literature on epidemiology, biology and treatment of laryngeal cancer in paediatric and young adult patients. RECENT FINDINGS Epidemiological studies reported that 2-10% of patients with laryngeal cancer are younger than 40-year-old, while the prevalence of laryngeal cancer remains unknown in the paediatric population. The development of laryngeal cancer in young adults is multifactorial and may be linked to common carcinogens (tobacco and alcohol), occupational factors, laryngopharyngeal reflux, immunosuppression, human papillomavirus infection and genetic polymorphism. A substantial number of cohort studies reported a significant lower proportion of drinkers and smokers in young populations with laryngeal cancer, supporting the higher prevalence of chromosomal losses or abnormalities predisposing to cancer in this group. The development of laryngeal cancer in paediatric patients is strongly associated with genetic syndromes with DNA repair abnormalities. The pathological, clinical and survival outcome differences between young and old patient groups vary significantly between studies, depending on epidemiological, genetic features and therapeutic strategies used. SUMMARY Paediatric and adult populations with laryngeal cancer present different clinical, pathological and survival outcomes. In the adult population, the patient age at the time of disease development underlies genetic and etiological differences with different mutation patterns between young and old patients, the latter being more frequently individuals with a history of tobacco and alcohol abuse. The differences between age groups regarding stage of cancer at initial presentation, as well as clinical and survival outcomes, are unclear, which may be due to demographic, ethnicity and population genetic differences.

Abstract
The option of T1a glottic cancer treatments remarkably varied in different countries. This study aimed to construct predictive models to predict overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of patients with initially diagnosed T1a glottic cancer. And we used propensity score matching (PSM) to reassess the effect of treatments.Data of patients with initially diagnosed T1a glottic cancer were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Patients with complete information were randomly divided into the training and the validation cohorts (7:3). Cox regression was conducted to screen significant predictors of the OS and the CSS. PSM was performed to mimic randomized controlled trials. Survival analyses were performed by Kaplan-Meier survival methods, and log-rank tests were utilized.A total of 2342 patients met the inclusion criteria. Survival analyses showed that patients who underwent primary site surgery would have better OS and CSS. Univariate analyses and multivariate analyses proved that stage, N stage, primary site surgery, and chemotherapy significantly affected both the OS and the CSS. Predictive nomograms were established to predict patients' prognosis. Finally, the OS and the CSS for patients who underwent primary site surgery alone were significantly longer than those who underwent radiation alone before and after PSM.We constructed nomograms predicting the OS and the CSS of patients with initially diagnosed T1a glottic cancer. Compared to our previous studies, this study indicated that primary site surgery may be superior to radiation and chemotherapy. At present, chemotherapy should be not recommended for T1a glottic cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Second primary tumors (SPTs) are a common cause of reduced life expectancy in patients treated for head and neck cancer (HNC). This phenomenon forms an area to be addressed during posttreatment follow-up. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of literature following PRISMA guidelines, from 1979 to 2019, to investigate incidence of SPTs, synchronous, and metachronous, in HNC population. RESULTS Our review includes data of 456 130 patients from 61 articles. With a minimum follow-up of 22 months, mean incidence of SPTs was 13.2% (95% CI: 11.56-14.84): 5.3% (95% CI: 4.24-6.36) for synchronous SPTs and 9.4% (95% CI: 7.9-10.9) for metachronous SPTs. The most frequent site for SPTs was head and neck area, followed by the lungs and esophagus. CONCLUSION Although with wide variations between studies, the rate of SPTs in HNC patients is high. Given the impact in the prognosis, we must develop strategies for the early diagnosis of SPTs.
