Abstract
Supramolecular chemistry, although focused mainly on noncovalent intermolecular and intramolecular interactions, which are considerably weaker than covalent interactions, can be employed to fabricate sensors with a remarkable affinity for a target analyte. In this review the development of cyclodextrin-based electrochemical sensors is described and discussed. Following a short introduction to the general properties of cyclodextrins and their ability to form inclusion complexes, the cyclodextrin-based sensors are introduced. This includes the combination of cyclodextrins with reduced graphene oxide, carbon nanotubes, conducting polymers, enzymes and aptamers, and electropolymerized cyclodextrin films. The applications of these materials as chiral recognition agents and biosensors and in the electrochemical detection of environmental contaminants, biomolecules and amino acids, drugs and flavonoids are reviewed and compared. Based on the papers reviewed, it is clear that cyclodextrins are promising molecular recognition agents in the creation of electrochemical sensors, chiral sensors, and biosensors. Moreover, they have been combined with a host of materials to enhance the detection of the target analytes. Nevertheless, challenges remain, including the development of more robust methods for the integration of cyclodextrins into the sensing unit.

Abstract
A carbon quantum dot-based carbon paste electrode was fabricated and used for the determination of adrenaline (AD) at the nanomolar level. This fabricated electrode exhibited tremendous electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of adrenaline in supporting electrolyte (PBS of pH 7.4). Scan rate variation studies with the modified electrode revealed that the overall electrode process was controlled by a diffusion process. A lower detection limit of 6 nM was achieved by chronoamperometry. Interference by biological molecules such as serotonin (5-HT) and ascorbic acid (AA) in the electrochemical oxidation of AD on the fabricated electrode was tested. It was observed that with the modified electrode, the selective determination of AD was possible. Further, with the fabricated electrode, simultaneous analysis of AA, AD, and 5-HT was performed, and it was observed that the overlapped peaks of these analytes on the naked electrode were well resolved into three peaks on the modified electrode. Along with decent sensitivity and selectivity, the electrode also showed higher stability and antifouling nature. The real-time application of the projected scheme was proven by employing the said electrode for adrenaline in adrenaline bitartrate injections.

Abstract
A gold electrode modified with a polypyrrole–mesoporous silica molecular sieves (polypyrrole—MCM-48) nanostructure film was used for the electrochemical determination of small concentrations of dopamine (DA) by cyclic voltammetry and square-wave voltammetry techniques. This electrode showed good electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of dopamine. The oxidation potential of dopamine was decreased significantly compared with that obtained at the bare gold electrode. The observed linear range for the determination of the dopamine concentration, without interferents through cyclic voltammetry measurements, was from 10 μM to 1.2 mM (R2 = 0.9989) for the gold electrode modified with the polypyrrole—MCM-48 nanostructure, with a detection limit of 2.5 μM. In the case of square-wave voltammetry, the linear range was 2–250 μM, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9996, and the detection limit was estimated to be 0.7 μM. The effects of interferents, such as ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA), on the electrochemical detection of dopamine were also examined. The modified electrode can successfully separate the oxidation potentials for ascorbic acid and dopamine, shifting the oxidation peak potential of ascorbic acid to a more positive potential, and significantly decreasing the peak current. The presence of ascorbic acid increased the sensitivity of dopamine determination at the modified electrode, and the detection limit was estimated to be 0.5 μM with 0.1 mM ascorbic acid to imitate physiological solutions. Additionally, studies showed that the presence of uric acid does not affect the electrochemical detection of dopamine. The modified electrode can be successfully applied for the quantitative analysis of dopamine both with and without interferents.

Abstract
MXene/graphite composite paste electrode (MXene/GCPE)-based electrochemical sensor has been fabricated for the detection of adrenaline. The electrode exhibits a sensitive response to adrenaline in phosphate buffer solution of pH 7.4, and its catalytic activity is much higher than that of the bare graphite paste electrode. The electron-transfer reaction of MXene/GCPE is a diffusion controlled process. The graph of concentration of adrenaline with the peak current exhibits two linearities, one in the lower and other in the higher concentration range with a detection limit of 9.5 nM. The simultaneous analyses of adrenaline, ascorbic acid, and serotonin reveal that the fabricated electrode could separate the overlapped cyclic voltammetric peaks of these ternary mixtures. This electrode has been further employed in the detection of adrenaline in pharmaceutical samples with 99.2-100.8% recoveries.

Abstract
The combination of supramolecules and conducting polymers (CPs) has gained much attention for the development of new immobilization matrices for biomolecules. Herein, an amperometric biosensor based on a novel conducting polymer, poly(2-(2-octyldodecyl)-4,7-di(selenoph-2-yl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole)) (PSBTz) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) for the detection of cholesterol, was constructed. The PSBTz film with β-CD was deposited on a graphite electrode by electropolymerization technique to achieve a suitable matrix for enzyme immobilization. Moreover, to justify the immobilization, alkyl chain containing conducting polymer (PSBTz) was designed, synthesized and electrochemically polymerized on the transducer surface. Alkyl chains in the structure of SBTz and hydroxyl groups of β-CD contributed to effective immobilization while protecting the suitable orientation of the biomolecule. Cholesterol oxidase (ChOx) was covalently immobilized onto the modified surface using N,N′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) as the cross-linking agent. After successful immobilization, amperometric biosensor responses were recorded at −0.7 V vs Ag/AgCl in phosphate buffer (pH 7.0). The apparent Michaelis-Menten constant (KM(app)), maximum current (Imax), limit of detection (LOD), and sensitivity values were determined: 28.9 μM, 12.1 μA, 0.005 μM, and 5.77 μA/μM cm(2), respectively. The fabricated biosensor was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. Finally, the prepared biosensor was successfully applied for the determination of cholesterol in blood samples.

Abstract
The inclusion process involving β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) with dopamine (DA) was investigated by using PM6, HF, and ONIOM methods. The most stable structure was obtained at the optimum position and angle. The complex orientation in which the catechol ring of dopamine penetrates into the β-CD cavity near primary hydroxyls is preferred in energy. The structures show the presence of several intermolecular hydrogen bond interactions that were studied on the basis of natural bonding orbital analysis, employed to quantify the donor–acceptor interactions between dopamine and β-CD. A study of these complexes in solution was carried out using the CPCM model to examine the influence of solvation on the stability of the dopamine β-CD complex.
