Electrochemical Analysis of Mercury Using a Kryptofix Carbon‐Paste Electrode

Synthesis and Evaluation of Bifunctional [2.2.2]-Cryptands for Nuclear Medicine Applications

For the first time, synthesis of bifunctional [2.2.2]-cryptands (CRYPT) and demonstration of radiolabeling with lead(II) (Pb²⁺) isotopes are disclosed herein. The synthesis is convenient and high-yielding and gives access to three distinct bifunctional handles (azide (-N₃), isothiocyanate (-NCS), and tetrazine (-Tz)) that can enable the construction of radioimmunoconjugates for targeted and pretargeted therapy. Proof-of-principle CRYPT radiolabeling was successful with lead-203 ([²⁰³Pb]Pb²⁺) and demonstrated complexation efficiency superior to that of DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) and efficiency comparable to that of the current industry standard TCMC (1,4,7,10-tetraaza-1,4,7,10-tetra-(2-carbamoylmethyl)-cyclododecane). In vitro human serum stability assays demonstrated excellent [²⁰³Pb]Pb-CRYPT stability over 72 h (91.7 ± 0.56%; n = 3). [²⁰³Pb]Pb-CRYPT-radioimmunoconjugates were synthesized from the corresponding CRYPT-immunoconjugate or by conjugating [²⁰³Pb]Pb-Tz-CRYPT to transcyclooctene modified trastuzumab (TCO-trastuzumab) via the inverse electron-demand Diels-Alder (IEEDA) reaction. This investigation reveals the potential for CRYPT ligands to become new industry standards for therapeutic and diagnostic radiometals in radiopharmaceutical elaboration.

Synthesis, characterization and application of poly(acrylamide-co-methylenbisacrylamide) nanocomposite as a colorimetric chemosensor for visual detection of trace levels of Hg and Pb ions

In this study, a new colorimetric chemosensor based on TiO2/poly(acrylamide-co-methylenbisacrylamide) nanocomposites was designed for determination of mercury and lead ions at trace levels in environmental samples. The removal and preconcentration of lead and mercury ions on the sorbent was achieved due to sharing an electron pair of N and O groups of polymer chains with the mentioned heavy metal ions. The hydrogel sensor was designed by surface modification of a synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles using methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilan (MAPTMS), which provided a reactive C=C bond that polymerized the acrylamide and methylenbisacrylamide. The sorbent was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM), EDS analysis and Fourier transform in frared (FT-IR) spectrometer. This nanostructured composite with polymer shell was developed as a sensitive and selective sorbent for adsorption of mercury and lead ions from aqueous solution at optimized condition. This method involves two-steps: (1) preconcentration of mercury and lead ions by the synthesized sorbent and (2) its selective monitoring of the target ions by complexation with dithizone (DZ). The color of the sorbent in the absence and presence of mercury and lead ions shifts from white to violet and red, respectively. The detection limit of the synthesized nanochemosensor for mercury and lead ions was 1 and 10 μg L(-1), respectively. The method was successfully applied for trace detection of mercury and lead ions in tap, river, and sea water samples.

Carbon paste electrodes in the new millennium

In this review (with 500 refs), both electrochemistry and electroanalysis with carbon paste-based electrodes, sensors, and detectors are of interest, when attention is focused on the research activities in the years of new millennium. Concerned are all important aspects of the field, from fundamental investigations with carbon paste as the electrode material, via laboratory examination of the first electrode prototypes, basic and advanced studies of various electrode processes and other phenomena, up to practical applications to the determination of inorganic ions, complexes, and molecules. The latter is presented in a series of extensive tables, offering a nearly complete survey of methods published within the period of 2001–2008. Finally, the latest trends and outstanding achievements are also outlined and future prospects given.
