Abstract
The evolution of instrumentation in terms of separation and detection allowed a real improvement of the sensitivity and analysis time. However, the analysis of ultra-traces of toxins in complex samples requires often a step of purification and even preconcentration before their chromatographic analysis. Therefore, immunoaffinity sorbents based on specific antibodies thus providing a molecular recognition mechanism appear as powerful tools for the selective extraction of a target molecule and its structural analogs to obtain more reliable and sensitive quantitative analysis in environmental, food or biological matrices. This review focuses on immunosorbents that have proven their efficiency in selectively extracting various types of toxins of various sizes (from small mycotoxins to large proteins) and physicochemical properties. Immunosorbents are now commercially available, and their use has been validated for numerous applications. The wide variety of samples to be analyzed, as well as extraction conditions and their impact on extraction yields, is discussed. In addition, their potential for purification and thus suppression of matrix effects, responsible for quantification problems especially in mass spectrometry, is presented. Due to their similar properties, molecularly imprinted polymers and aptamer-based sorbents that appear to be an interesting alternative to antibodies are also briefly addressed by comparing their potential with that of immunosorbents.

Abstract
The modern environmental and food analysis requires sensitive, accurate, and rapid methods. The growing field of biosensors represents an answer to this demand. Unfortunately, most biosensor systems have been tested only on distilled water or buffered solutions, although applications to real samples are increasingly appearing in recent years. In this context, biosensors for potential food applications continue to show advances in areas such as genetic modification of enzymes and microorganisms, improvement of recognition element immobilization, and sensor interfaces. This chapter investigates the progress in the development of biosensors for the rapid detection of food toxicants for online applications. Recent progress in nanotechnology has produced affordable, mass-produced devices, and to integrate these into components and systems (including portable ones) for mass market applications for food toxicants monitoring. Sensing includes chemical and microbiological food toxicants, such as toxins, insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, microorganisms, bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms, phenolic compounds, allergens, genetically modified foods, hormones, dioxins, etc. Therefore, the state of the art of recent advances and future targets in the development of biosensors for food monitoring is summarized as follows: biosensors for food analysis will be highly sensitive, selective, rapidly responding, real time, massively parallel, with no or minimum sample preparation, and platform suited to portable and handheld nanosensors for the rapid detection of food toxicants for online uses even by nonskilled personnel.

Abstract
Many efforts have been made to produce artificial materials with biomimetic properties for applications in binding assays. Among these efforts, the technique of molecular imprinting has received much attention because of the high selectivity obtainable for molecules of interest, robustness of the produced polymers, simple and short synthesis, and excellent cost efficiency. In this review, progress in the field of molecularly imprinted sorbent assays is discussed-with a focus on work conducted from 2005 to date.

Abstract
Herein, we present a survey of the literature covering the development of molecular imprinting science and technology over the years 2004-2011. In total, 3779 references to the original papers, reviews, edited volumes and monographs from this period are included, along with recently identified uncited materials from prior to 2004, which were omitted in the first instalment of this series covering the years 1930-2003. In the presentation of the assembled references, a section presenting reviews and monographs covering the area is followed by sections describing fundamental aspects of molecular imprinting including the development of novel polymer formats. Thereafter, literature describing efforts to apply these polymeric materials to a range of application areas is presented. Current trends and areas of rapid development are discussed.

Abstract
This review highlights developments in mycotoxin analysis and sampling over a period between mid-2011 and mid- 2012. It covers the major mycotoxins aflatoxins, Alternaria toxins, ergot alkaloids, fumonisins, ochratoxin, patulin, trichothecenes, and zearalenone. A section on mycotoxins in botanicals and spices is also included. Methods for mycotoxin determination continue to be developed using a wide range of analytical systems ranging from rapid immunochemical-based methods to the latest advances in mass spectrometry. This review follows the format of previous reviews in this series (i.e. sections on individual mycotoxins), but due to the rapid spread and developments in the field of multimycotoxin methods by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, a separate section has been devoted to advances in this area of research.

Abstract
In this paper, a highly selective sample cleanup procedure combing dummy molecular imprinting and solid-phase extraction (DMI-SPE) was developed for the simultaneous isolation and determination of five phthalate esters in plastic bottled beverages. The new imprinted microspheres were synthesized via precipitation polymerization using diisononyl phthalate as a dummy template that showed high selectivity and affinity to the five kinds of phthalate esters and were successfully applied as selective sorbents of DMI-SPE for the simultaneous determination of the phthalate esters from plastic bottled beverages. Good linearity was obtained in a range of 5.0-750.0 μg/L, and the average recoveries of the five phthalate esters at three spiked levels ranged from 84.3 to 96.2% with the relative standard deviations less than 5.49%. The developed extraction protocol eliminated the effect of template leakage on quantitative analysis and could be applied for the determination of phthalate esters in complicated functional beverages products.
