The impact of age and body mass index on a bra sizing system formed by anthropometric measurements of Sichuan Chinese females

Investigation of readymade garment fit issues and analysis of anthropometric measurements of Ethiopian young men

This paper presents analyses of anthropometric measurements of Ethiopian young men aged 18-30 years and draws implications for the improvement of the fit of readymade clothing. Thirty-five anthropometric dimensions of 4022 subjects were measured according to ISO 8559:2017. The anthropometric dimensions were described with mean, standard deviation, and some percentiles. Differences in the anthropometric measurements with the body mass index (BMI) and ethnicity of the subjects were examined by analysis of variances. Furthermore, differences in some anthropometric measurements from that of Indian and Greek young men of similar ages were tested by one-sample t-tests. The result showed that the average BMI of the subjects was 20.63 which is normal. Statistically significant mean differences were observed among the subjects with different BMIs and ethnicities in most of the anthropometric dimensions. The anthropometric measurements of the subjects were mostly larger than the Indians and smaller than the Greek men.

Comparative Morphological Evaluation of Young Women's Breast-Bra Reshaping by Different Bra Cups

Female breasts are regarded as a factor reflecting women's morphological beauty. An appropriate bra can fulfill aesthetic needs, thus boosting self-esteem. This study proposed a method to analyze young women's breast-bra morphological variations between two identical bras with different bra cup thicknesses. The 3D surface scan data of 129 female students who were braless and wore a thin bra (13 mm) and a thick bra (23 mm) were analyzed. Integral sections of the breasts and bra were cut at a fixed thickness of 10 mm, and slice maps were derived. Morphological parameters were extracted in braless and the two bra conditions. The variations in breast-bra shape caused by different thicknesses of bra cups were evaluated by quantifying breast ptosis, gathering, and breast slice area. The results showed that the thin bra lifted the breasts by 2.16 cm, whereas the thick bra decreased breast separation, gathering the breasts and moving them 2.15 cm laterally towards the center of the chest wall. Moreover, prediction models constructed using the critical morphological parameters were used to characterize breast-bra shape after wearing the provided bras. The findings lay the groundwork for quantifying the breast-bra shape variation caused by different bra cup thicknesses, allowing young females to choose optimally fitting bras to achieve their desired breast aesthetics.

Digital-Based Healthy Bra Top Design That Promotes the Physical Activity of New Senior Women by Applying an Optimal Pressure

A bra use can reduce physiological and physical functions because of clothing pressure, which can be a problem for new senior women starting to lose physical function. The present study presents a bra top design development method for promoting new senior women's physical activity by identifying problems related to bras' effects on women's health and minimizing clothing pressure. The analysis utilized the 3D scan data of 42 adult women (age range: 50s) from the 5th Size Korea Project. Bra top design elements were extracted based on new senior consumers' needs. We developed an average wireframe reflecting the new senior's physical characteristics, and a standard body form was developed through surface modeling. To produce a consumer-oriented bra with a body shaping effect and reduced clothing pressure that would not affect physical activities, a three-dimensional pattern was developed applying an optimal reduction rate of 80%. To verify the bra's adequacy for the body form of new senior women, two market-available bras were selected and fit-compared to the developed product. The developed bra received higher expert appearance evaluation and 3D virtual clothing evaluation scores. This study is significant because by using virtual fitting technology, it provides foundational data to quantify the quality of fashion products.
