Abstract
β-Hydrazonophosphine oxides are precursors of useful organophosphorus compounds, including phosphorylated N-heterocycles, α-aminophosphonates, and vinylphosphonates. In this work, a general transition metal-free synthesis of β-hydrazonophosphine oxides was developed. The method relies on the Michael addition of phosphine oxides R2P(O)H to reactive azoalkenes (1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes), which are generated in situ from α-halohydrazones and Hunig's base. The reaction stereoselectively leads to Z-isomers of β-hydrazonophosphine oxides that are stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonding. The conversion of the products thus obtained into potential chelating ligands was showcased.

Abstract
Cinnamic acids are an important class of phenolic compounds, which have many beneficial effects on human health but are also interesting synthetic intermediates thanks to the presence of several reactive sites. While studying the reactivity of cinnamic acids with diazonium salts from aromatic amines, an unexpected reactivity has been discovered, leading to the formation of 1,2-diaza-1,3-dienes instead of traditional diazo-coupling products. The new compounds have been fully characterized by mono and bidimensional NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Preliminary studies on the biological activity of the compounds have been carried out testing both their antibacterial and antitumor activity, leading to promising results.

Abstract
The present review article summarizes the synthesis of allenes, which bear an adjacent functional group, by [3,3]- or [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of appropriate propargyl substrates. Functionalized allenes, such as allenyl isothiocyanates, isoelenocyanates, isocyanates, thiocyanates, azides, azo compounds and others, are easily available by these methods. In several cases, however, the title compounds show high reactivity, which leads to rapid intermolecular or intramolecular successive reactions. Consequently, synthesis of the allenes by sigmatropic rearrangement has to be combined with special techniques, for example, flash vacuum pyrolysis or in situ generation and trapping reactions. The high tendency of the presented functionalized allenes to undergo cyclization reactions can be utilized to prepare heterocyclic products, for instance, thiazoles, selenazoles, 1,2,3-triazoles and pyrazoles. The synthesis of functionalized 1,3-butadienes by a second sigmatropic rearrangement of the title compounds is also successful.

Abstract
Exhaustive Michael-type alkylations of amines and ammonia with azoalkenes (generated from α-halohydrazones) were demonstrated as an efficient approach to poly(hydrazonomethyl)amines - a novel class of polynitrogen ligands. An intramolecular cyclotrimerization of C=N bonds in tris(hydrazonomethyl)amine to the respective 1,4,6,10-tetraazaadamantane derivative was demonstrated.

Abstract
The preparation of tetrahydropyrazines, dihydropyrazines, pyrazines, piperazinones, and quinoxalines by 1,4-addition of 1,2-diamines to 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes bearing carboxylate, carboxamide, or phosphorylated groups at the terminal carbon and subsequent internal heterocyclization is described. The solvent-free reaction of carboxylated 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes with the same reagents affords piperazinones, while phosphorylated 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes yield phosphorylated pyrazines. The solid-phase reaction of polymer-bound 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes with 1,2-diamines produces pyrazines.

Abstract
[structures: see text] The present article describes the reaction between 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes and trialkyl phosphites, under an atmosphere of nitrogen and under solvent-free conditions, to give alkyl 3,3-dialkoxy-2H-1,2,3lambda5-diazaphosphole-4-carboxylates that, in turn, are converted into corresponding E-hydrazonophosphonates by treatment with THF:water (95:5). These latter compounds are obtained directly by the reaction of 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes with trialkyl phosphites in the presence of air. These compounds are useful for the further preparation of dialkyl (5-methyl-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-4-pyrazolyl)phosphonates and 2-dialkoxyphosphoryl-1,2,3-thiadiazoles.

Abstract
New and interesting 2-oxofuro[2,3-b]pyrroles and 19-methyl-15-oxa-20-azatricyclo[12.3.3.0(1,14)]icos-18-en-18-carboxylates have been obtained in good yields by the one-pot reaction, in basic medium, of 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes with diethyl or dimethyl acetylsuccinate or methyl 2-(1,3-dioxo-2-cyclotetradecyl)acetate, respectively, under mild conditions. Treatment of the same starting materials with diethyl 2-acetylglutarate, in acidic medium, afforded unknown 2-methylenepyrrole derivatives in high yields. Novel 4-(3-oxopropyl)-2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylates also have been achieved by reacting 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes with ethyl or methyl 4-acetyl-5-oxo-hexanoate.

Abstract
The synthesis of 5-hydroxy-1-aminopyrroline-3-carboxylic acid derivatives and 5-unsubstituted-1-aminopyrrole-3-carboxylic acid derivatives from 1,2-diaza-1,3-butadienes and aldehydes is presented. These domino reactions offer the advantage of executing multistep transformation without intermediate workup procedures. The stereoselectivity of ring closure to 5-hydroxy-1-aminopyrroline-3-carboxylic acid derivatives and phenyl transposition to 2,3-diphenyl-1-aminopyrrole-3-carboxylic acid derivatives are also studied.
