Abstract
An efficient Rh(III)-catalyzed selective mono- and dual-C-H bond functionalization/cyclization with iodonium ylide as a single coupling partner was demonstrated, in which fused benzodiazepine skeletons were obtained in excellent yields. This method greatly improved an effective approach to dual C-H unsymmetrical functionalization.

Abstract
Using transition metals as nanocatalysts has opened up a vast new area in heterocyclic chemistry in the modern day. Heterocyclic moieties are significant scaffolds that have both pharmacological and industrial applications. Various scientific groups have focused their attention on the expansion of simple reaction protocols by introducing better functional group compatibilities under mild reaction conditions through the use of easily available starting materials. This review provides an outline of the applications of metallic nanoparticles as proficient, recyclable, low-cost and green heterogeneous catalysts for the preparation of a wide range of key therapeutic five-membered nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds as well as some other significant functionalizations over the rings. This review mainly covers the literature published through the period from 2004 to 2021.

Abstract
The proline-catalysed asymmetric aldol reaction is usually carried out in highly dipolar aprotic solvents (dimethylsulfoxide, dimethylformamide, acetonitrile) where proline presents an acceptable solubility. Protic solvents are generally characterized by poor stereocontrol (e.g., methanol) or poor reactivity (e.g., water). Here, we report that water/methanol mixtures are exceptionally simple and effective reaction media for the intermolecular organocatalytic aldol reaction using the simple proline as the catalyst.

Abstract
This review is focused on palladium-catalyzed reactions as efficient strategies aimed at the synthesis of different classes of benzodiazepines. Several reaction typologies are reported including hydroamination, amination, C–H arylation, N-arylation, and the Buchwald–Hartwig reaction, depending on the different substrates identified as halogenated starting materials (activated substrates) or unactivated unsaturated systems, which then exploit Pd(0)- or Pd(II)-catalytic species. In particular, the use of the domino reactions, as intra- or intermolecular processes, are reported as an efficient and eco-compatible tool to obtain differently functionalized benzodiazepines. Different domino reaction typologies are the carboamination, aminoarylation, aminoacethoxylation, aminohalogenation, and aminoazidation.

Abstract
1,5-Benzodiazepines are considered some of the most vital classes of heterocyclic compounds due to their amazing biological and varied pharmacological activities. They are regarded as privileged structures and therefore have been striking synthetic targets for organic and medicinal chemists over the last decade. This results in the exploration of various silica supported catalysts, Lewis acids, organoacids, magnetic nanoparticles and other miscellaneous catalysts that have been investigated till date for an efficient and green synthesis of 1,5-benzodiazepine and its derivatives. The current review article primarily covers the one-pot green chemical synthesis of 1,5- benzodiazepines using various novel catalysts. The main motive of this review is the assessment of the literature on various catalysts along with their yield, reaction condition, and mechanism of action. In the end, the entire catalysts are structured systematically into various Lewis acids, Bronsted organoacids, supported catalysts, nanocatalysts, and miscellaneous catalysts and are presented in the form of tables for quick ‘at a glance’ study of catalysts, their reaction condition, time taken, etc.

Abstract
A novel and mild Rh(iii)-catalyzed C-H activation/intramolecular condensation of 1-aryl-1H-pyrazol-5-amines with cyclic 2-diazo-1,3-diketones was developed, giving access to various important benzo[f]pyrazolo[1,5-a][1,3]diazepine scaffolds through sequential C-C/C-N bond formation in a one-pot procedure under additive- and oxidant-free conditions. Furthermore, 3-([1,1'-biphenyl]-2-ylamino)-2-ethoxycyclohex-2-enones can be obtained in good yields by constructing C-O and C-N bonds through 1,1'-insertion, dehydration, and isomerization processes.

Abstract
Designer benzodiazepines have recently appeared in many forensic cases as legal alternatives to federally scheduled drugs such as diazepam (Valium) and alprazolam (Xanax). Though current forensic instrumental techniques are often sufficient for identifying novel psychoactive substances, they may not readily differentiate between potential positional isomers. Additionally, characterization data for positional isomers of known designer benzodiazepines are widely nonexistent. In this study, flubromazepam, a recognized designer benzodiazepine since 2012, was targeted for synthesis and characterization due to its potential for federal scheduling and current legal status within the United States. A practical synthetic method was developed to prepare purified reference materials for each positional isomer of flubromazepam in which the positions of the bromine and fluorine substituents were varied. Possible isomers (9 of the 12) were successfully prepared and used for further analysis.

Abstract
Triply fused 1,3-diazepine derivatives have been obtained by acidic reduction of rotationally locked and sterically hindered nitro groups in the presence of an aldehyde or ketone. The nitro groups are sited on adjacent rings of a dicyanodibenzothiophene-5,5-dioxide, which also displays fully reversible two-electron-accepting behavior. The synthesis, crystallographically determined molecular structures, and aspects of the electronic properties of these new molecules are presented.

Abstract
Pd/CPhos-catalysis provides direct arylation/cyclisation of methylene-linked bis-anilines to dibenzo[1,3]diazepines v, which are both non-(C2)-symmetrical and axially chiral. Synthesis of the direct arylation substrates commences with substitution of (N-acyl)anilines to methylene methyl sulfide derivatives, followed by halogenation/de-thiomethylation to N-(chloromethyl)anilines. These are substituted with a second aniline derivative, allowing modular preparation of (ortho-halo)aryl-aminal-linked arenes 4. The C–H functionalising direct arylation conditions were adapted from Fagnou and co-workers: substrates and potassium carbonate were heated in dimethylacetamide in the presence of palladium acetate and an electron-rich and sterically hindered biarylphosphine ligand, here CPhos 5. These conditions delivered the C1-(a)symmetric dibenzo[1,3]diazepine targets, which, due to torsion around the axis of the newly formed biaryl bond, are also intrinsically atropisomeric. The axially twisted scaffold is known to impart special properties to ligands/catalysts when the products are further converted into the corresponding seven-membered ring-containing N-heterocyclic carbenes (e.g. xii and xiv).
