Ultrasound irradiation and green synthesized CuO-NiO-ZnO mixed metal oxide: An efficient sono/nano-catalytic system toward a regioselective synthesis of 1-aryl-5-amino-1H-tetrazoles

Antibacterial and antibiofilm effects of green synthesized selenium nanoparticles on clinical Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates

Nanotechnology covers many disciplines, including the biological sciences. In this study, selenium nanoparticles (Se-NPs) were synthesized using Artemisia annua extract and investigated against clinical strains of klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) for their anti-biofilm effects. In this experimental study, from May 1998 to September 1998, 50 clinical samples of blood, urine, and sputum were collected, and K. pneumoniae strains were isolated using microbiological methods. Subsequently, the antibacterial effects of Se-NPs at concentrations of 12-25-50-100/5-6/3-25/125 μg/mL were studied. Finally, biofilm-producing strains were isolated, and the expression of mrkA biofilm gene was studied in real-time strains treated with Se-NPs using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Out of 50 clinical samples, 20 strains of K. pneumoniae were isolated. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) results of Se-NPs showed that Se-NPs were capable of significant cell killing. Real-time PCR results also showed that mrkA gene expression was significantly reduced in strains treated with Se-NPs. According to this study, Se-NPs could reduce bacterial growth and biofilm formation, therefore, could be considered a candidate drug in the medical application for infections caused by K. pneumoniae.

The effect of green synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles/collagen/HA scaffold in bone regeneration: As an animal study

BACKGROUND

The bone defects cannot heal by themselves when their range exceeds the critical size defect (CSD). In clinical treatment, significant bone defects are often caused by trauma, developmental deformity, tumour resection and infection.

OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of green synthesis of TiO2 from propolis extract/collagen/HA (Hydroxyapatite) scaffolds on bone regeneration in rats.

METHODS

Water uptake, biodegradability, porosity and biodegradation of the scaffolds were evaluated after they were synthesised using freeze-dry method. Cell viability by MTT assay was then evaluated. During the 4, 8 and 12 weeks following the scaffold implantation, the bone regeneration was evaluated using macroscopic and microscopic tests to determine the effectiveness of green synthesis of TiO2 from propolis extract/collagen/HA scaffolds.

RESULTS

Compared to the HA/Coll scaffold, ProTiO2 /HA/Coll scaffold was reduced porosity, water absorption and degradability porosity. Based on in vitro tests, both synthetic scaffolds induced cell growth and were less toxic and stimulated cell growth. Based on histopathological testing, the ProTiO2 /HA/Coll scaffolds formed high levels of bone during 12 weeks in comparison with HA/Coll and control group.

CONCLUSIONS

ProTiO2 /HA/Coll composite can be used in regenerative medicine, bone fillers and scaffolds. As a result, this research suggests that ProTiO2 /HA/Coll composites could be promising candidates for bone regeneration.

Fe3O4 supported [Cu(ii)(met)(pro-H)2] complex as a novel nanomagnetic catalytic system for room temperature C-O coupling reactions

In this study, a newly-designed copper(ii) complex of metformin and l-proline which was immobilized on Fe₃O₄ MNPs was developed. The structure of the catalyst platform was fully characterized using spectroscopic analyses. Moreover, the catalytic activity of [Fe₃O₄@Cu(ii)(Met)(Pro-H)₂] was investigated in a one-pot synthesis of a variety of functionalized ethers in reasonable to excellent yields through Ullman reaction in an aqueous environment using various aryl halides, phenol, and Cs₂CO₃ and without using any external Cu-reducing agents. Notably, gentle catalytic conditions, quick reaction times, applicability, low cost, and preventing dangerous chemicals and solvents during synthesis and catalytic application are some of the superior properties of the [Fe₃O₄@Cu(ii)(Met)(Pro-H)₂] complex. Furthermore, the catalyst can be reused for several runs (at least eight times) without remarkable loss in efficiency.

Green Synthesis of Aromatic Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles by Catalytic and Non-Traditional Activation Methods

Recent advances in the environmentally benign synthesis of aromatic N-heterocycles are reviewed, focusing primarily on the application of catalytic methods and non-traditional activation. This account features two main parts: the preparation of single ring N-heterocycles, and their condensed analogs. Both groups include compounds with one, two and more N-atoms. Due to the large number of protocols, this account focuses on providing representative examples to feature the available methods.

Ionic Liquid Modified SPION@Chitosan as a Novel and Reusable Superparamagnetic Catalyst for Green One-Pot Synthesis of Pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-dione Derivatives in Water

In this paper, the chitosan-functionalized ionic liquid is modified with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles to form a novel and reusable catalyst (SPION@CS-IL), which was carried out using an ultrasonic promoted approach. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) are some of the techniques that are used to fully characterize SPION@CS-IL. The created nanoparticles were discovered to be a reusable heterogeneous superparamagnetic catalyst for the environmentally friendly one-pot synthesis of pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives using a simple three-component reaction approach involving thiobarbituric acid, 4-hydroxy coumarin, and various aromatic aldehydes. The method is studied by performing the reaction under ultrasonic irradiation, while the approach is a “green” method, it uses water as the solvent. The isolated yields of the synthesized products are very advantageous. The catalyst has outstanding reusability and is easily removed from the products via filtration (5 runs). Short reaction times, low catalyst loadings, the nanocatalyst’s capacity to be recycled five times, and the absence of harmful chemical reagents are all significant benefits of this environmentally benign process.
