Abstract
Background: Schiff base compounds are potential drugs. Results: A Schiff base compound prepared by condensing 2,4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde and isobutylamine was characterized for structure, thermal, physicochemical and biological properties. The keto-enol tautomerism and azomethine functionality enhances electron delocaliZation and biological activity. The compound showed good antibacterial and antifungal activity at 40 μg/ml against bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and fungi like Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis. The docking study exhibits a moderate binding affinity for the GyrB protein in E. coli with a binding energy of -4.26 kcal/mol.Conclusion: The compound exhibits enhanced biological activity and suppression of cell growth at concentrations as low as 30 μg/ml. The IC50 for MFC-7 was found to be 41.5 μg/ml.

Abstract
In this study, four new Secnidazole metal complexes have been synthesized through the reaction of Secnidazole drug with AuCl3, PtCl2, PdCl2, AgNO3 salts. The structures of the synthesized complexes were elucidated using elemental analysis, molar conductivity, thermal analysis, IR, 1H-NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The spectroscopic results confirm that Secnidazole drug act as a bidentate ligand, coordinated to the metal ion with N3 of the imidazole ring and oxygen atom of OH group. The antimicrobial data revealed that the complexes possess a better antibacterial activity against most of the selected bacteria species than the free drug. In addition, the cytotoxic data showed that Ag-complex possesses a potent anticancer activity against MCF-7 cell line. The docking data showed that the synthesized complexes displayed a good and effective binding model against breast cancer protein (3hb5) which was confirmed by the low values of binding energy and multiple H-bonds.

Abstract
A novel Schiff base was synthesized by the condensation of imidazole-2-carboxaldehyde with l-histidine in an equimolar ratio. The prepared Schiff base was characterized by elemental analysis and spectral characterization techniques. It was then complexed with a series of 3-d metal(II) ions like manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc. The coordination properties, nature of bonding and stability of the complexes were deduced from elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR, mass, electronic spectra, magnetic, conductivity and thermogravimetric analysis. IR studies support the tridentate behaviour of Schiff base as well as its coordination to the central metal ion through an azomethine nitrogen, deprotonated carboxylic oxygen and imidazole ring nitrogen atoms of histidine. The electronic spectra and magnetic moment data demonstrate that the complexes have an octahedral geometry, except zinc complex, which has a tetrahedral geometry. In vitro antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds has been shown to exhibit excellent antibacterial and antifungal activities. The antibacterial property of the prepared Schiff base was further confirmed by conducting a docking study of target proteins involved in the antibacterial mechanism.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
2,4-Dinitrophynylhydrazine and two thiocyanate ions in a (M:L1:L2) 1:2:2 molar ratio was synthesized in the complexes of Co(II) and Ni(II). The prepared compounds were identified through a C.H.N.S. analysis, conductivity measurements, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), the infrared spectrum, and a UV-visible spectrum analysis, in addition to the magnetic properties being measured. The measurements of the molar conductance implieda nonelectrolytic nature of compounds Co(II) and Ni(II). The magnetic susceptibility, as well as electronic spectra, represented all the metal complexesthroughoctahedral geometry, respectively. The PXRD patterns suggested that all the complexes were an orthorhombic system with unit cell parameters. The in-vitro biological activity of the ligand and the metal complexes were screened against the Gram-positive and negative pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas, aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, as well as the fungal species of Aspergillusniger and Candida albicans. Thus, the metal complexes showeda high efficiency of antimicrobial activity compared with the ligand. Furthermore, applications of the ligand, as well as the metal complexes, were tested for in-vitro antioxidant potential in aDPPH assay. The results showed that the activity of the metal complexes with the in-vitro antioxidant was more active than that of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine(DNPH).

Abstract
The current epidemic of antibiotic-resistant infections urges to develop alternatives to less-effective antibiotics. To assess anti-bacterial potential, a novel coordinate compound (RU-S4) was synthesized using ruthenium-Schiff base-benzimidazole ligand, where ruthenium chloride was used as the central atom. RU-S4 was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and Raman spectroscopy. Antibacterial effect of RU-S4 was studied against Staphylococcus aureus (NCTC 8511), vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) (CCM 1767), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (ST239: SCCmecIIIA), and hospital isolate Staphylococcus epidermidis. The antibacterial activity of RU-S4 was checked by growth curve analysis and the outcome was supported by optical microscopy imaging and fluorescence LIVE/DEAD cell imaging. In vivo (balb/c mice) infection model prepared with VRSA (CCM 1767) and treated with RU-S4. In our experimental conditions, all infected mice were cured. The interaction of coordination compound with bacterial cells were further confirmed by cryo-scanning electron microscope (Cryo-SEM). RU-S4 was completely non-toxic against mammalian cells and in mice and subsequently treated with synthesized RU-S4.

Abstract
Imidazole ring is an important five-membered aromatic heterocycle widely present in natural products and synthetic molecules. The unique structural feature of imidazole ring with desirable electron-rich characteristic is beneficial for imidazole derivatives to readily bind with a variety of enzymes and receptors in biological systems through diverse weak interactions, thereby exhibiting broad bioactivities. The related research and developments of imidazole-based medicinal chemistry have become a rapidly developing and increasingly active topic. Particularly, numerous imidazole-based compounds as clinical drugs have been extensively used in the clinic to treat various types of diseases with high therapeutic potency, which have shown the enormous development value. This work systematically gives a comprehensive review in current developments of imidazole-based compounds in the whole range of medicinal chemistry as anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, antitubercular, anti-inflammatory, antineuropathic, antihypertensive, antihistaminic, antiparasitic, antiobesity, antiviral, and other medicinal agents, together with their potential applications in diagnostics and pathology. It is hoped that this review will be helpful for new thoughts in the quest for rational designs of more active and less toxic imidazole-based medicinal drugs, as well as more effective diagnostic agents and pathologic probes.
