Abstract
Materials based on Eu3+ and Tb3+ coordination compounds are of great interest due to their strong red and green luminescence. Appropriate selection of ligands plays a huge role in optimizing their photophysical properties. Another very helpful instrument for such optimization is theoretical modelling, which permits the prediction of the emissive properties of materials through intramolecular energy transfer analysis. The ligands that allow for achieving high efficiency of Eu3+ and Tb3+ emissions include carbacylamidophosphates (CAPh, HL). In this brief review, we summarize recent research for lanthanides CAPh-based coordination compounds of general formulas Cat[LnL]4, [LnL3Q] and [Ln(HL)3(NO3)3], where Cat+ = Cs+, NEt4+, PPh4 + and Q = 1,10-phenanthroline, 2,2-bipyridine or triphenylphosphine oxide, involving the use of thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray analysis, and absorption and luminescence spectroscopy. We carried out a comparison with selected Ln3+ β-diketonates. Possibilities and developments of theoretical calculations on energy transfer rates are also presented.

Abstract
A new synthesis of cerium tetrakis(tropolonate), Ce(trop)4, where trop is deprotonated 2-hydroxy-2,4,6-cycloheptatrienone) or Ce(O2C7H5)4, is developed that results in dark-purple crystals whose X-ray crystal structure shows that the geometry of the eight-coordinate compound closely resembles a D2 d dodecahedron, based on shape parameters. The magnetic susceptibility as a function of the temperature (4-300 K) shows that it is a temperature-independent paramagnet, χ = 1.2(3) × 10-4 emu/mol, and the LIII-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectrum shows that the molecule is multiconfigurational, comprised of a f1:f0 configuration mixture in a 50:50 ratio. Ce(acac)4 and Ce(tmtaa)2 (where acac is acetylacetonate and tmtaaH2 is tetramethyldibenzotetraaza[14]annulene) have similar physical properties, as does the solid-state compound CeO2. The concept is advanced that trop-, acac-, tmtaa2-, cot2-, and O2- are redox-active ligands that function as electron donors, rendering the classification of these compounds according to their oxidation numbers misleading because their magnetic susceptibilities, χ, are positive and their effective magnetic moments, μeff, lie in the range of 0.1-0.7 μB at 300 K.

Abstract
A series of cerium complexes containing a 2,2'-methylenebis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenolate) (MBP(2-)) ligand framework is described. Electrochemical studies of the compound [Li(THF)2Ce(MBP)2(THF)2] (1) reveal that the metal based oxidation wave occurs at -0.93 V vs Fc/Fc(+). This potential demonstrates significant stabilization of the cerium(IV) ion in the MBP(2-) framework with a shift of ∼2.25 V from the typically reported value for the cerium(III/IV) couple of E°' = +1.30 V vs Fc/Fc(+) for Ce(ClO4)3 in HClO4 solutions. Compound 1 undergoes oxidation to form stable cerium(IV) species in the presence of a variety of common oxidants. The coordination of the redox-active ligands 2,2'-bipyridine and benzophenone to 1 result in complexes in which no apparent metal-to-ligand charge transfer occurs and the cerium ion remains in the +3 oxidation state.
