Synthesis, characterization, and nonlinear optical responses of nickel(II) complexes with phenanthroline-based ligands

Synthesis and biological evaluation of ruthenium complexes containing phenylseleny against Gram-positive bacterial infection by damage membrane integrity and avoid drug-resistance

Compounds modified with selenium atom as potential antibacterial agents have been exploited to combat the nondrug-resistant bacterial infection. In this study, we designed and synthesized four ruthenium complexes retouching of selenium-ether. Fortunately, those four ruthenium complexes shown excellent antibacterial bioactive (MIC: 1.56-6.25 μg/mL) against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), and the most active complex Ru(II)-4 could kill S. aureus by targeting the membrane integrity and avoid the bacteria to evolve drug resistance. Moreover, Ru(II)-4 was found to significantly inhibit the formation of biofilms and biofilm eradicate capacity. In toxicity experiments, Ru(II)-4 exhibited poor hemolysis and low mammalian toxicity. To illustrate the antibacterial mechanism: we conducted scanning electron microscope (SEM), fluorescent staining, membrane rupture and DNA leakage assays. Those results demonstrated that Ru(II)-4 could destroy the integrity of bacterial cell membrane. Furthermore, both G. mellonella wax worms infection model and mouse skin infection model were established to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Ru(II)-4 in vivo, the results indicated that Ru(II)-4 was a potential candidate for combating S. aureus infections, and almost non-toxic to mouse tissue. Thus, all the results indicated that introducing selenium-atom into ruthenium compounds were a promising strategy for developing interesting antibacterial agents.

Copper(i) ionic complexes based on imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin diimine chelating ligands: crystal structures, and photo- and electroluminescence properties

Synthesis, characterization, second and third order non-linear optical properties and luminescence properties of 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-di(carboxaldehyde phenylhydrazone) and its transition metal complexes

The requirement for materials which exhibit good second and third order non-linear optical properties and also for materials which could sense metals in trace quantities has kindled renewed investigations. Organometallics and coordination compounds show a lot of promise as new NLO materials combining the variety of organic moieties with the strength and variable oxidation states of metals. Especially ligands which selectively detect industrial pollutants like Cd and biologically significant metals like Zn are necessary. In the current work the ligand 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-di(carboxaldehyde phenylhydrazone) (L) and its Ni2+, Co2+, Fe2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Ir3+ complexes were synthesized. These were characterized by UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H NMR, MS and CHN microanalysis techniques. The complexes were shown to have the formula [ML]2+. The second and third order NLO of the ligand and its complexes were recorded These new compounds were found to have same order of third order nonlinear optical susceptibility as that of CS2 and their second hyperpolarizability was an order of magnitude greater than that of C60. Furthermore the ligand also displays selective luminescence sensing of metals ions Fe2+ and Ir3+ even in the presence of other metal ions.

Ruthenium (II) Complexes of Mono-, Di- and Tripodal Polypyridine Ligands: Synthesis, Characterization, and Spectroscopic Studies

Mono-, di- and tripodal polypyridine ligands 4-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline-2-yl)phenol (L1), 2-(4-(2-((4-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline-2-yl)phenoxy)methyl)benzyloxy)phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline (L2), 2-(4-(4-((4-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline-2-yl)phenoxy)methyl)benzyl oxy)phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline (L3), 2-(4-(4,6-bis(4-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10] phenanthroline-2-yl)phenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine-2-yloxy)phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline (L4), and their Ru (II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized. All the ligands (L1-L4) gave the emissions at three shoulder at 278 nm, 315 nm, and 328 nm and the complexes (C1-C4) exhibit Ru (II) metal centered emission at 265 nm, 288 nm and 328 nm in acetonitrile solution at room temperature. Maximum d-π* transition seen at 462 nm for all the complexes.
