Synthesis, spectral, DFT, and antimicrobial studies of tin(II) and lead(II) complexes with semicarbazone and thiosemicarbazones derived from (2-hydroxyphenyl)(pyrrolidin-1-yl)methanone

Synthesis, spectroscopy, and density functional theory of organotin and organosilicon complexes of bioactive ligands containing nitrogen, sulfur donor atoms as antimicrobial agents: in vitro and in silico studies

Recently inorganic-based metallodrugs provide an effective mechanism for the drugs on the choice of metal and its properties. Medicinal complex compounds provide an efficient platform for various pharmacological and therapeutic applications. Six new organotin and organosilicon complexes containing sulphur and nitrogen donor atoms were synthesised. These complexes of (E)-2-((4-methoxybenzylidene)amino)benzenethiol were characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weights, conductance measurements, infrared, electronic, and NMR spectroscopy. The data analysis indicated that the Schiff base contains bidentate nitrogen sulfur (NS) domains and was coordinated to silicon (Si) and tin (Sn) moieties via the imine-N and thiolic-S atoms, resulting in penta- and hexa-coordinated complexes in 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 ratios, respectively. The geometries around the Sn and Si atoms in complexes 1, 3, and 5 were five-coordinated and 2, 4, and 6 were six-coordinated octahedra, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) was used to determine the optimal structural parameters. The antimicrobial activities of the ligand and its complexes were determined. These data indicate that metal complexes are more effective against bacteria and fungi in comparison to the free ligand. Molecular docking was performed to interpret the interaction of protein and various complexes and it was observed that compound 6 showed the highest binding affinity.

Complexity of imine and amine Schiff-base tin(II) complexes: drastic differences of amino and pyridyl side arms

A series of homoleptic and heteroleptic imine and amine Schiff-base tin(II) complexes containing dimethylamino and pyridyl side arms were synthesized and structurally characterized. While the tin complexes containing the dimethylamino side arm could be prepared in good yield, unusual cyclodimerization and ligand dimerization were observed for the first time for Schiff-base tin complexes having a pyridyl side arm due to the added stabilization offered by the pyridyl ring. The amine Schiff-base tin(II) complexes were active for the ring-opening copolymerization of succinic anhydride (SA) and cyclohexene oxide (CHO) at 110 °C giving highly alternating poly(SA-alt-CHO).

Bis(4-methylpiperidine-1-carbodithioato)-lead(II) and Bis(4-benzylpiperidine-1-carbodithioato)-lead(II) as Precursors for Lead Sulphide Nano Photocatalysts for the Degradation of Rhodamine B

Bis(4-methylpiperidine-1-carbodithioato)-lead(II) and bis(4-benzylpiperidine-1-carbodithioato)-lead(II) were prepared and their molecular structures elucidated using single crystal X-ray crystallography and spectroscopic techniques. The compounds were used as precursors for the preparation of lead sulphide nano photocatalysts for the degradation of rhodamine B. The single crystal structures of the lead(II) dithiocarbamate complexes show mononuclear lead(II) compounds in which each lead(II) ion coordinates two dithiocarbamato anions in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The compounds were thermolyzed at 180 ℃ in hexadecylamine (HDA), octadecylamine (ODA), and trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) to prepare HDA, ODA, and TOPO capped lead sulphide (PbS) nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD) patterns of the lead sulphide nanoparticles were indexed to the rock cubic salt crystalline phase of lead sulphide. The lead sulphide nanoparticles were used as photocatalysts for the degradation of rhodamine B with ODA-PbS1 achieving photodegradation efficiency of 45.28% after 360 min. The photostability and reusability studies of the as-prepared PbS nanoparticles were studied in four consecutive cycles, showing that the percentage degradation efficiency decreased slightly by about 0.51-1.93%. The results show that the as-prepared PbS nanoparticles are relatively photostable with a slight loss of photodegradation activities as the reusability cycles progress.

Vibrational Spectroscopic Characterization and DFT Study of Palladium(II) Complexes with N-Benzyliminodiacetic Acid Derivatives

The reactions of N-benzyliminodiacetic acid (BnidaH2) and its para-substituted derivatives, namely N-(p-chlorobenzyl)iminodiacetic acid (p-ClBnidaH2), N-(p-nitrobenzyl)iminodiacetic acid (p-NO2BnidaH2), and N-(p-methoxybenzyl)iminodiacetic acid (p-MeOBnidaH2) with sodium tetrachloropalladate(II) were performed in aqueous solutions. Three new complexes [Pd(p-ClBnidaH)2]·2H2O (2), [Pd(p-NO2BnidaH)2]·2H2O (3), and [Pd(p-MeOBnidaH)2] (4) were prepared and characterized by infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses. The molecular geometry and infrared spectra of these three complexes, together with the previously synthesized [Pd(BnidaH)2]·2H2O (1a) and [Pd(BnidaH)2] (1b) were also modelled using density functional theory calculations at the BP86/6–311+G(d,p) level of theory with SDD pseudopotentials.
