Molecular simulation, experiments and modelling of single adsorption capacity of 4A molecular sieve for CO2–CH4 separation

Direct and stable hydrogenation of CO2 to aromatics over a tandem catalyst Zn0.1Ti0.9Ox/HZSM-5

Direct and stable conversion of CO2 to aromatics (CTA) is an attractive route for reducing CO2 emissions. However, due to the chemical inertness of CO2, direct CTA reaction with high aromatics selectivity is still challenging. In this work, a tandem catalyst Zn0.1Ti0.9Ox/HZSM-5 with appropriate density and strength of acid sites exhibits a high aromatics selectivity of 67.2% and long-term stability over 100 h. Furthermore, the total selectivity of benzene, toluene, and xylene achieves 24.1% over Zn0.1Ti0.9Ox/HZSM-5 with a modified hydrophilic surface. In addition, the CTA via the formate route has been determined in this reaction system.

Adsorption and diffusion of the H2/CO2/CO/MeOH/EtOH mixture into the ZIF-7 using molecular simulation

The adsorption and diffusion of synthesis gas components (methanol, ethanol, H₂, CO_2, and CO molecules) in ZIF-7 by grand canonical Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulation were investigated. The initial diffusion coefficient at the beginning of the process depends on the kinetic diameter of the guest molecules. Also, the diffusion coefficient at equilibrium conditions probably depends on the interaction between the guest molecules with the ZIF-7 framework. The radial distribution function results indicate that the distribution of guest molecules in the framework is affected by the interaction between the guest molecules. These results indicate that the CO, CO₂, and H₂ guest molecules are adsorbed on both the Zn metal atom and the organic linker (especially the C₁ atom). In contrast, the organic linker is the most favorable adsorption site for methanol and ethanol guest molecules. In addition, the diffusion coefficient of guest molecules in binary mixtures is related to the attraction or repulsion between the guest molecules.

Static and Dynamic Simulation of Single and Binary Component Adsorption of CO2 and CH4 on Fixed Bed Using Molecular Sieve of Zeolite 4A

The simulation of carbon dioxide (CO2)-methane (CH4) mixed gas adsorption and the selectivity on zeolite 4A using Aspen Adsorption were studied. The influence of temperature ranging from 273 to 343 K, pressure up to 10 bar and various compositions of CO2 in the binary system were simulated. The findings of the study demonstrate that the models are accurate. In addition, the effects of various key parameters such as temperature, pressure, and various compositions of binary gases were investigated. The highest CO2 and CH4 adsorption are found at 273 K and 10 bar in the Langmuir isotherm model with 5.86 and 2.88 mmol/g, respectively. The amount of CO2 adsorbed and the selectivity of the binary mixture gas depends on the composition of CO2. The kinetics of adsorption for pure components of CO2 at high temperatures can reach saturation faster than CH4. The influence of the physical properties of zeolite 4A on kinetic adsorption were also studied, and it was observed that small adsorbent particles, large pore diameter, and large pore volume would enter saturation quickly. The prediction of CO2-CH4 mixed gas adsorption and selectivity on zeolite 4A were developed for further use for commercial gas separation.

Vertically aligned double wall carbon nanotube arrays adsorbent for pure and mixture adsorption of H2S, ethylbenzene and carbon monoxide, grand canonical Monte Carlo simulation

In this study, pure and ternary adsorption of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), ethylbenzene (EB), and carbon monoxide (CO) on different arrays of zigzag double wall carbon nanotube was investigated using grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations. The internal diameters of nanotube were fixed at 2r = 50.17 Å while nanotube wall distances were different values from d = 0 Å to d = 150 Å. Pure simulation results indicated that adsorption quantity of H₂S and EB in low pressure ranges of P = 1.9 bar to P = 3.1 bar was at least 100% more than CO adsorption quantities. At high pressure ranges of P = 23.1 bar to P = 38.2 bar H₂S adsorption was greater than EB and CO by about 200 molecules per unit cell (UC) at low nanotube distances. This was related to smaller kinetic diameter and greater dipole moment of H₂S compared to EB and CO. At higher nanotube distance the effect of size however disappears and all three gases approach to adsorption quantity of about 800 molecules/UC. Graphical representation of adsorption areas showed that H₂S and CO form multilayer adsorption around nanotube inner and outer walls while EB fill the whole space uniformly without any congestion around the walls. Ternary adsorption results EB/CO and H₂S/CO selectivity are greater than EB/H₂S selectivity. In addition, at smaller nanotube distances H₂S/CO selectivity is generally higher than EB/CO selectivity, which at higher nanotube distance the order becomes revers suggesting that size dependent effects on adsorption vanishes. Isosteric heat of adsorption shows that the order of EB > H₂S > CO suggesting that ethylbenzene interaction with nanotube arrays was strongest. Although H₂S has a greater dipole moment and smaller molecular dimension, EB adsorption at higher nanotube distance is greater than H₂S by at least 50% probably because EB is less volatile.
