Describing the impact of psychological safety on risk prevention: A threshold model construction

BACKGROUND

Like other things, psychological safety has a too-much-of-a-good-thing effect on the risk prevention process. There are warranted systematic and theoretical discussions on both positive and negative influences of psychological safety, which provide useful guides to handling potential risks for workers.

OBJECTIVE

This study focuses on the psychological safety analysis of work safety for workers in high-risk industries through the construction of a theoretical model, illustrating that a higher level of psychological safety is not better.

METHOD

This study explores the impact of workers' psychological safety on the potential risk of work safety by conducting a comprehensive analysis of relevant literature and employing inductive reasoning and analogy methodology.

RESULTS

We systematically reviewed the research background and several hypotheses of psychological safety, described the relationship between psychological safety and risk prevention from three levels, and constructed the threshold initial, special, and extended model of psychological safety to reveal the importance of workers' psychological safety when handling potential risks.

CONCLUSION

This research effectively describes the influence of high, moderate, and low levels of psychological safety on the risk prevention of work safety, which provides a psychological model guide to developing measures for the improvement of work safety management.

Implementation Science, Behavior Analysis, and Supporting Evidence-based Practices for Individuals with Autism

Although applied behavior analysis researchers have created efficacious treatment and intervention practices for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), there is a gap between research and practice. Implementation Science (IS) and Organizational Behavior Management (OBM), based with Applied Behavior Analysis, are two parallel fields that could close this gap. This paper provides descriptions of both IS and OBM, highlighting their commonalities and unique featuers. The paper concludes with examples of how researchers have used IS and OBM to promote practitioners' use of evidence-based practices and services for children and youth with ASD.

Organizational Silos: A Scoping Review Informed by a Behavioral Perspective on Systems and Networks

In recent years, several organizations have implemented interventions aimed at integrating work processes and bridging network clusters. These are often permeated by different assumptions regarding clusters in organizational settings. There are concerns about the formation of silos and structural barriers to communication across the formal and informal network structures. Conversely, network clusters are regarded as spaces of local social reinforcement from which innovation ideas may emerge. Although terminologically and functionally different, they share some common features insofar as organizational behavior is concerned and the production of artifacts that fulfill organizational goals. The present scoping review presents an analysis of the literature on organizational silos while investigating attempts to bridge network clusters. Based on the search results, 40 studies were included in the analysis of the findings; of these, 20 were empirical studies and were included in a further quantitative analysis of methods and findings. We identified patterns of definitions of silos and variation in terms of aims, variables, and methods used to evaluate interventions among the heterogeneous studies. Special attention was dedicated to the role of consequences of siloed organizational behavior. We conclude that silos comprise barriers to achieving organizational goals insofar as they pose a threat to internal cooperation.
