Influence of gas flow rate and sodium carboxymethylcellulose on foam properties of fatty alcohol sodium polyoxyethylene ether sulfate solution

Study on the control of high ore pass dust pollution by pre-injection foam dedusting technology in the ore bin

The impact airflow generated by ore unloading in the chute raises the dust carried by the ore itself and the floating dust, and then, the dust raised enters the roadway with the airflow and pollutes the environment. In order to minimize the amount of dust entering the roadway and reduce the pollution of unloading dust, we conducted an experimental study of selection of best foam formula and pre-injection foam dust dedusting technology in ore bin. It was found that the optimal foaming formula was 1.0% sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) + 0.5% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) + (0.2 ~ 0.4%) sodium carboxymethyl cellulose CMC-Na and coconut oil monoethanolamide (CMEA) by the compound experiment using two evaluation criteria of initial foaming amount and foam defoaming rate. When the air pressure is 0.7 MPa, the foaming rate of the foam generator is proportional to the gas and liquid flow rate and the best foaming gas and liquid flow ratio is 27.8. Under this circumstance, the foaming rate of the foaming formula is 500 l/min. When the height of foam is controlled at 15 cm, the effect of foam dust removal is the best. The dust emission rate from the foam to the fourth level can reach 60%, and the dust fall rate of the third level is 28%, which effectively reduces the dust production and relieves the pressure of the spray hole dust fall at the wellhead.

Improvement of Foaming Ability of Surfactant Solutions by Water-Soluble Polymers: Experiment and Molecular Dynamics Simulation

Aqueous foam is widely used in fire extinguishing and dust suppression technologies. Improving the foaming ability is the key to reducing the added concentration of foaming agents as well as the economic cost. In this work, the effect of a water-soluble polymer (polyvinyl alcohol, PVA) on the foaming ability of anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl ether sulfate, SDES) was studied by an experiment and molecular dynamics simulation. The experimental results showed that PVA greatly improves the foaming ability of SDES solutions when the surfactant concentration is less than 0.1%, which is attributed to the fact that the polymer can enhance the stability of bubble films and reduce the bubble rupture rate during the foam generation process. The simulation results indicate that PVA can enhance the hydration of surfactant head groups and contribute to the formation of a three-dimensional hydrogen bond network between surfactants, polymers, and water molecules, thus greatly improving the stability of bubble liquid films. The above results suggest that water-soluble polymers can be used to improve the foaming ability of surfactant solutions by enhancing the bubble film stability, which is beneficial as it reduces the added concentration of foaming agents in aqueous foam applications.

Recent Progress in Polymer-Containing Soft Matters for Safe Mining of Coal

Safe mining is the premise and guarantee of sustainable development of coal energy. Due to the combination of excellent properties of polymers and traditional soft matters, polymer-containing soft matters are playing an increasingly important role in mine disaster and hazard control. To summarize the valuable work in recent years and provide reference and inspiration for researchers in this field, this paper reviewed the recent research progress in polymer-containing soft matters with respect to mine dust control, mine fire control, mine gas control and mine roadway support. From the perspective role of polymers in a material system, we classify mine polymer-containing soft matters into two categories. The first is polymer additive materials, in which polymers are used as additives to modify fluid-like soft matters, such as dust-reducing agents (surfactant solution) and dust-suppressing foams. The second is polymer-based materials, in which polymers are used as a main component to form high performance solid-like soft matters, such as fire prevention gels, foam gels, gas hole sealing material and resin anchorage agent. The preparation principle, properties and application of these soft matters are comprehensively reviewed. Furthermore, future research directions are also suggested.
