The relationship between acceptance, self-compassion and hope in infertile women: a structural equation analysis

Psychological distress in infertile women: the role of quality of marital relationships and self-compassion

Infertility is a common disease. At least 10-15% of women deal with infertility in some way. Infertile women suffer from a higher degree of psychological distress compared to fertile women. This study aims to identify the role of the quality of marital relationships and self-compassion in psychological distress in infertile women. The participants were 400 women who were referred to fertility clinics in Iran over a two-year period. Questionnaires containing Demographic Questionnaire, Psychological Distress Scale (DASS), Marital Quality Scale (MQS) and Self-Compassion Scale (MCS). The results showed that predictor variables explain a total of 29.9% of the variance of psychological distress in infertile women. The quality of marital relationships (p  =  0.001 and β  =  -0.49) and self-compassion (p < 0.05 and β  =  -0.08) can negatively predict the psychological distress of infertile women. Considering that the significant role of the quality of marital relationships and self-compassion in the psychological distress of infertile women has been confirmed; therefore, interventions that focus on the quality of marital relationships and self-compassion may be effective and should be used as a resource to combat psychological distress in infertile women.

Effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy on depression and rumination as a tool for health promotion on mothers with cerebral palsy children

BACKGROUND

Since in most families, mothers are more responsible for taking care of children and they have more responsibility than fathers for monitoring the child; taking care of a disabled child can have a more negative effect on the psychological state of mothers. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy (BAT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on depression and rumination on mothers with children with cerebral palsy in the city of Ilam.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The design of this research was pretest and post-test quasi-experimental with a control group. The research sample was 60 mothers who referred to occupational therapy centers in the city of Ilam in 2022, who were randomly divided into two experimental groups (N = 40 for each) and a control group (N = 20). One of the experimental groups, received behavioral activation group therapy method; and the other received the group therapy method based on acceptance and commitment for eight sessions lasted for 90 minutes in week. Data were collected using the Beck depression questionnaire (BDI-II) and the rumination questionnaire in two stages before the intervention and after the intervention. In this research, covariance analysis was used for data analysis.

RESULTS

The results of covariance analysis showed that behavioral activation therapy and acceptance and commitment-based therapy reduced depression (P < 0.01) and rumination (P < 0.01), and the two experimental groups were compared with the control group in the post-test phase.

CONCLUSION

It seems that behavioral activation therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy are effective in reducing depression and rumination in the subjects of the present study. Therefore, these treatments are suggested as complementary treatments along with drug treatments to improve psychological symptoms.

The Association Between Spirituality and Hope Among Turkish Women Undergoing Infertility Treatment

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of spirituality on the levels of hope in women undergoing infertility treatment. This cross-sectional study was completed with the participation of 150 women undergoing IVF treatment at a university hospital in Kocaeli. In this study the women's spiritual well-being levels were high, and their hope levels were above the average score. Significant correlations were found between hope, spirituality, educational status, and age. Since attempts to boost hope will increase the chance of success in treatment, it is thought that factors affecting the level of hope should be determined and addressed. It is also thought that health professionals can apply hope therapy to women and take initiatives to provide spiritual support.
