Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the work described here was to explore the clinical efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (USg-HIFU) treatment in women with multiple fibroids and identify the characteristic parameters predicting USg-HIFU efficacy in multiple fibroids. METHODS From February 2021 to August 2022, 138 patients with multiple fibroids (group A comprising 125 patients with two to four fibroids and 13 patients with five or more fibroids) and 149 patients with solitary fibroids (group B) were included. HIFU treatment information, efficacy comparisons and adverse events were recorded. A nomogram model of the characteristic parameters used to predict the efficacy of USg-HIFU in multiple fibroids was established. RESULTS After USg-HIFU treatment, the statistical comparison of pre-operative versus post-operative symptom scores and fibroid volume in the two groups indicated obvious symptom relief and substantial shrinkage of fibroid volume (all p values <0.001). Nevertheless, group A required more energy and longer treatment and sonication times to achieve a 70% non-perfused volume (NPV) ratio, and had a lower energy efficiency factor than group B (all p values <0.05). No severe complications were observed in either group. The nomogram model included fibroid volume, fibroid location and signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and the accuracy of the model were 0.698 and 0.686, respectively. CONCLUSION USg-HIFU appears to be an effective and safe treatment option for multiple fibroids. Knowledge of the fibroid volume, location and signal intensity on T2WI may help determine the efficacy of USg-HIFU in multiple fibroids.

Abstract
The postnatal development of normal human lymph nodes (LN) is largely unknown but is of relevance for intranodal desensitization and for comparison to lymphoma. Superficial inguinal lymphoid (LN) of 25 children (newborn up to 14 years) were studied by routine histology and immunohistology for T and B lymphocytes. The LN were obtained from the legal medicine department at necropsy. The cortex and medulla were identifiable in LN of children of less than 1 month of age. Later high endothelial venules as typical structures for the T cell area are present. Secondary follicles were obvious from 3 months of age onwards in lymph nodes of adolescents also the histology of the LN was similar to adults. The structural elements for an intranodal desensitization are given in human children. The normal development of LN structure is essential to identify pathology like lymphoma in children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is currently used for the treatment of various diseases, but it still lacks a reliable technique in the preoperative stage to accurately place its "energy blade" onto diseased targets. Acoustic radiation force imaging (ARFI) was recently introduced to tackle this issue, but its applicability and limitations were not clear. PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of ARFI method in prediction of HIFU focal location at the preoperative stage. METHODS A point spread function (PSF) localization method, which was borrowed from the ultrasound super resolution field, was used to validate the core autocorrelation-based motion estimation algorithm in the ARFI procedure. Accuracy of the ARFI method for estimating the HIFU focus were tested with in vitro and ex vivo experiments with a clinically equivalent HIFU system. Comparisons were made between the estimated focal locations and those of the damaged area after the testing objects were cut open. RESULTS Results showed that the PSF localization was able to serve as a validating method for motion detection only when the tissue displacement was large. With the ARFI method, location of the HIFU focus could be accurately predicted by a 2D motion map preoperatively, and the axial spatial errors were less than 0.5 mm. However, the derived 2D motion maps can only be valuable when the acoustic stimulation in ARFI were strong enough, which was probably due to the fact that the HIFU focal locations were at large depths and the ultrasound imaging signal had low signal to noise ratio. CONCLUSION The ARFI method was indeed an accurate technique for preoperatively predicting HIFU focus in vitro and ex vivo. If clinical applications were to be considered, particularly in deep tissues, efforts might need to be made to improve ability of the ultrasound motion estimation technique.

Abstract
AIM To study the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) parameters in predicting the efficacy of ultrasonic ablation of fibroids. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 91 patients were divided into groups based on non-perfused volume (NPV) ratio and blood supply type. The preoperative MRI parameters were measured and analysed. A correlation analysis between the MRI parameters and the NPV ratio was performed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyse and determine the cut-off value of MRI parameters to predict the ablation rate of fibroids. RESULTS The uterine fibroids group with an NPV ratio <80% and the group with an NPV ratio of ≥80% had significant differences in signal intensity (SI) at MRI T2-weighted imaging (WI), fibroid-to-rectus abdominis SI ratio (SIR) at T2WI, and blood supply type (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in fibroid volume, T2WI signal uniformity, and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. The ADC value and SI and SIR at MRI T2WI in the group with poor blood supply were lower than those in the group with a rich blood supply (p<0.05). SI at MRI T2WI correlated negatively with the NPV ratio. The cut-off values for SI and SIR at MRI T2WI of fibroids whose NPV ratio exceeds 80% were 220.58 and 1.315, respectively. CONCLUSION SI at MRI T2WI and blood supply type could be predictors of the efficacy of ablation. Ultrasonic ablation of fibroids with MRI T2WI hyperintensity and a rich blood supply had poor efficacy.

Abstract
Ultrasound ablation techniques are minimally invasive alternatives to surgical resection and have rapidly increased in use. The response of tissue to HIFU ablation differs based on the relative contributions of thermal and mechanical effects, which can be varied to achieve optimal ablation parameters for a given tissue type and location. In tumor ablation, similar to surgical resection, it is desirable to include a safety margin of ablated tissue around the entirety of the tumor. A factor in optimizing ablative techniques is minimizing the recurrence rate, which can be due to incomplete ablation of the target tissue. Further, combining focal ablation with immunotherapy is likely to be key for effective treatment of metastatic cancer, and therefore characterizing the impact of ablation on the tumor microenvironment will be important. Thus, visualization and quantification of the extent of ablation is an integral component of ablative procedures. The aim of this review article is to describe the radiological findings after ultrasound ablation across multiple imaging modalities. This review presents readers with a general overview of the current and emerging imaging methods to assess the efficacy of ultrasound ablative treatments.

Abstract
Aim: In polycystic ovarian syndrome, the ovaries become stiffer due to chronic anovulation. We aimed to compare tissue elasticity in terms of shear wave velocities measured using acoustic radiation force impulse imaging technique between the ovaries of polycystic ovarian syndrome women and non-polycystic ovarian syndrome women. Material and methods: The study was designed as a retrospective data analysis of women who underwent transvaginal ultrasound and acoustic radiation force impulse imaging in a university hospital between July 2014 and March 2015, for various reasons. There were 32 polycystic ovarian syndrome patients and 32 patients without a diagnosis of polycystic ovarian syndrome. Age, body mass index, fasting glucose levels, cycle day 3 follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, prolactin, antimullerian hormone levels, and menstrual patterns with clinical hyperandrogenism were evaluated. On the menstrual cycle days 2-4, by performing a transvaginal ultrasound scan, the ovarian volumes and antral follicle counts in both ovaries were recorded for each woman. The ultrasound system was converted into the elastography mode, and acoustic radiation force impulse imaging was performed. Shear wave velocity (m/sec) was measured at least 5 times for each ovary, and the mean value was calculated for each polycystic ovarian syndrome and non-polycystic ovarian syndrome woman. Results: Age, body mass index, fasting glucose levels, cycle day 3 follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, and prolactin levels were similar between the groups (p >0,05). Antimullerian hormone levels, antral follicle counts, and mean ovarian volumes were statistically different between the groups (p <0,05). Mean shear wave velocity values for both ovaries were 2.12 ± 0.82 (0.78-4.9) m/sec in the polycystic ovarian syndrome group, and 1.18 ± 0.41 (0.77-2.0) m/sec in the non-polycystic ovarian syndrome group, which was statistically significantly different (p = 0.016). Conclusion: In our study, we found significantly higher shear wave velocity levels in polycystic ovarian syndrome women than non-polycystic ovarian syndrome women, which indicates an impact of the condition on shear wave velocity. The increased acoustic frequencies cause a decreased response in time to transition, and motion becomes out of phase; in other words, scattered waves are faster in stiffer ovaries. Our results are thus compatible with the pathophysiology of the disease. Shear wave velocity is a beneficial tool for evaluating ovarian elasticity in polycystic ovarian syndrome patients in whom the levels are found to be significantly higher than non-polycystic ovarian syndrome women. In light of these findings, shear wave velocity is expected to be slower than polycystic ovarian syndrome levels in ovulatory women.

Differences in the therapeutic effects of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation on uterine fibroids with different shear wave velocity (SWV): a study of histopathological characteristics. Int J Hyperthermia 2021; 37:1322-1329. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore correlations between the therapeutic effect of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and histopathological characteristics of uterine fibroids with different Shear Wave Velocity (SWV) values. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 36 women (43 fibroids) who had undergone high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) uterine fibroids ablation between January 2019 and January 2020. Preoperative fibroids tissue sections were obtained for histopathological examination. The pathological sections were stained with Masson-trichrome, and were observed and imaged under a Low-power microscope (4 × 10), while the smooth muscle cell (SMC) and collagen fiber content were semi-quantitatively measured. Preoperative fibroid SWV was measured using the Virtual Touch tissue quantification (VTQ) technique. Within one month after HIFU ablation, all patients had undergone a pelvic cavity MRI examination, which measured the size, volume, and non-perfused volume (NPV) of the fibroids. The formula: the ablation rate = NPV/target fibroid volume × 100% was used to calculate the ablation rate of the uterine fibroids. Correlation analysis of SWV values, HIFU ablation rate, along with the smooth muscle cell (SMC) and collagen fiber content, were conducted using the Spearman's correlation test. RESULTS The collagen fiber and SMC content of the preoperative fibroids were 32.09 ± 15.90%/view and 37.61 ± 15.32%/view, respectively. Preoperative fibroid SWV value was 3.56 ± 0.71 m/s. Preoperative fibroid SWV was negatively correlated with SMC content (r = -0.445, p = 0.003), but positively correlated with collagen fiber content (r = 0.454, p = 0.002). The ablation rate was negatively correlated with collagen fiber content (r = -0.377, p = 0.013), but positively correlated with SMC content (r = 0.402, p = 0.007). CONCLUSION Differences in histopathological characteristics may be important factors that induce differences in the therapeutic effects of HIFU ablation on uterine fibroids with different SWV values.
