Isolated breast hydatid cyst: A case report

A hydatid cyst is a parasitic infestation most frequently caused by the larval tapeworm known as Echinococcus granulosus. Breast hydatidosis is a very uncommon condition that may be the main site or one of its components in cases of extensive hydatidosis. We discussed a 28-year-old female patient who had been experiencing left breast pain for a year prior to her presentation.

Isolated breast hydatid cyst: Imaging features

Hydatid cyst (HC) of the breast is a rare entity, even in endemic areas. We report the radiologic features of an isolated breast HC in a 50‐year‐old woman. Imaging findings may mimic other common breast lesions, but specific imaging features help establish an accurate diagnosis to adapt therapeutic management.

Although very rare, hydatid cyst of the breast should be included in differential diagnosis of breast lumps, especially for patients living in endemic areas. Imaging findings are essential to evoke this potentially serious breast disease in order to adapt therapeutic management.

Isolated primary hydatid disease of the breast masquerading a breast tumor: report of a case and review of the literature

Hydatid disease commonly affects liver and lungs. The rare breast involvement is usually a part of generalized hydatid disease. Primary breast hydatidosis is exceptionally rare even in endemic area. A case of isolated primary hydatid disease of the breast is reported in an elderly Indian women presenting with a painless breast lump. On clinical and imaging evaluation, the lump masqueraded a breast tumor. Fine needle aspiration cytology and core needle biopsy of the mass were inconclusive for the tumor. Complete excision of the mass was performed, which upon histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of hydatid cyst. We reviewed the relevant literature with a brief discussion on management challenges. Hydatid cyst should always constitute a differential while evaluating a breast lump especially in endemic area.
