Abstract
There is a great effort from numerous research groups in the development of materials and therapeutic strategies for the functional recovery of patients who have suffered peripheral nerve injuries (PNI). In an article in vivo, the formation of a nerve bridge was observed, reconnecting the distal and proximal stumps, in the sciatic nerve of rats, indicating the effective participation of the biomaterial in the recovery of peripheral nerve injuries. For the current pilot study, 15 cases of multiple fractures of the mandible, with involvement of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) were selected and studied: JC (control cases) n = 6 with conventional treatment, and JT (treated cases) n = 9, with the use of biomimetic biomaterial. The evaluation of the return to sensitivity was measured through a self-assessment, where the patients assigned scores from 0 to 10, where zero (0) represented the complete absence of sensitivity and ten (10) the normality of the perception of local sensitivity. Patients were evaluated from the preoperative period to the 360th day. The statistical results obtained by the t-Student, Shapiro-Wilk normality and non-parametric One-Way ANOVA tests indicated statistically significant differences (p < 0.005; 0.005 e 0.5 respectively), between the two treatments, which were reflected in the clinical results observed, we also calculate the size of the effect represented by ϵ2, calculated by Cohen's d. The results indicate a great difference between the treatments performed,ϵ2 = 1.00. In the 6 cases followed up in the JC group, four remained with a significant deficit until the end of the evaluations and two indicated the remission of the lack of sensitivity in this period. In the JT group, in 28 days, all cases indicated complete remission of the lack of sensitivity with healing concentration. In one of the cases where there was a complete rupture of the mental nerve, the (score-10) was observed in 60 days. The observed results indicate the existence of a statistical significance between the groups and an important relationship when using the biomimetic biomaterial during the recovery of the perception of sensitivity in polytraumatized patients, compatible with the results observed in laboratory animals, which may indicate its clinical feasibility in the reduction of sequelae in PNI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The safe use of radiotherapy (RT) requires compliance with dose/volume constraints (DVCs) for organs at risk (OaRs). However, the available recommendations are sometimes conflicting and scattered across a number of different documents. Therefore, the aim of this work is to provide, in a single document, practical indications on DVCs for OaRs in external beam RT available in the literature. MATERIAL AND METHODS A multidisciplinary team collected bibliographic information on the anatomical definition of OaRs, on the imaging methods needed for their definition, and on DVCs in general and in specific settings (curative RT of Hodgkin's lymphomas, postoperative RT of breast tumors, curative RT of pediatric cancers, stereotactic ablative RT of ventricular arrythmia). The information provided in terms of DVCs was graded based on levels of evidence. RESULTS Over 650 papers/documents/websites were examined. The search results, together with the levels of evidence, are presented in tabular form. CONCLUSIONS A working tool, based on collected guidelines on DVCs in different settings, is provided to help in daily clinical practice of RT departments. This could be a first step for further optimizations.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report 8-year clinical outcome with high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDRBT) boost using MRI-only workflow for intermediate (IR) and high-risk (HR) prostate cancer (PC) patients. METHODS AND MATERIALS Fifty-two patients were treated with 46-60 Gy of 3D conformal radiotherapy preceded and/or followed by a single dose of 8-10 Gy MRI-guided HDRBT. Interventions were performed in a 0.35 T MRI scanner. Trajectory planning, navigation, contouring, catheter reconstruction, and dose calculation were exclusively based on MRI images. Biochemical relapse-free- (BRFS), local relapse-free- (LRFS), distant metastasis-free- (DMFS), cancer-specific-(CCS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. Late morbidity was scored using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE 4.0) combined with RTOG (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group) scale for urinary toxicity and rectal urgency (RU) determined by Yeoh. RESULTS Median follow-up time was 107 (range: 19-143) months. The 8-year actuarial rates of BRFS, LRFS, DMFS, CSS and OS were 85.7%, 97%, 97.6%, and 77.6%, respectively. There were no Gr.3 GI side effects. The 8-year actuarial rate of Gr.2 proctitis was 4%. The 8-year cumulative incidence of Gr.3 GU side effects was 8%, including two urinary stenoses (5%) and one cystitis (3%). EPIC urinary and bowel scores did not change significantly over time. CONCLUSIONS MRI-only HDR-BT boost with moderate dose escalation provides excellent 8-year disease control with a favorable toxicity profile for IRPC and HRPC patients. Our results support the clinical importance of MRI across the BT workflow.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy and safety of sacral nerve modulation (SNM) in patients with faecal incontinence (FI) after pelvic radiotherapy in comparison with results of SNM for FI related to other conditions. METHODS Prospectively collected data from patients who underwent SNM therapy between January 2010 and December 2015 at 7 tertiary colorectal units were reviewed retrospectively. Patients with FI following pelvic radiotherapy were identified and matched (1:2) for age and sex with 38 patients implanted over the same period for FI without previous radiotherapy. The treatment was considered favourable if the patient reported any therapeutic benefit from SNM, had no further complaints or interventions and did not consider stopping the treatment. Long-term results, surgical revision and definitive explantation rates were compared. RESULTS Among 352 patients who received a permanent SNM implant, 19 (5.4%) had FI following pelvic radiotherapy. After a mean follow-up of 3.5 ± 1.9 years, the cumulative successful treatment rates were similar between the groups (p = 0.60). For patients with FI following pelvic radiotherapy, the cumulative success rates were 99.4% [85.4-99.8], 96.7% [78.1-99.6], 91.7% [70.4-98.1] and 74.6% [48.4-94.8] at 1, 2, 3 and 5 years respectively. The revision and definitive explantation rates for infection did not differ significantly. CONCLUSION The long-term success rate of SNM for FI after pelvic radiotherapy is similar to that of SNM for FI related to other more frequent conditions. Our study suggests that FI after pelvic radiotherapy could be improved with SNM without an increased risk of complication.

Abstract
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. External beam radiotherapy by a variety of methods is a standard treatment option with excellent disease control. However, acute and late rectal side effects remain a limiting concern in intensification of therapy in higher-risk patients and in efforts to reduce treatment burden in others. A number of techniques have emerged that allow for high-radiation dose delivery to the prostate with reduced risk of rectal toxicity, including image-guided intensity-modulated radiation therapy, endorectal balloons and various forms of rectal spacers. Image-guided radiation therapy, either intensity-modulated radiation therapy or stereotactic ablative radiation therapy, in conjunction with a rectal spacer, is an efficacious means to reduce acute and long-term rectal toxicity.
