Abstract
There is a need for an efficient and long-lasting treatment due to the population's increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders. In an effort to generate fresh ideas and create novel therapeutic medications, scientists have recently started to investigate the biological functions of compounds derived from plants and herbs. Ginseng, famous Chinese herbal medicine, has therapeutic value by virtue of its compounds ginsenosides or panaxosides, which are triterpene saponins and steroid glycosides. Research revealed positive impacts on ameliorating various disease conditions and found it as a possible drug candidate. Several neuroprotection mechanisms followed by this compound are inhibition of cell apoptosis, oxidative stress, inflammatory, and tumor activity. It has been demonstrated that controlling these mechanisms enhances cognitive performance and safeguards the brain against neurodegenerative disorders. The main objective of this review is to give a description of the most recent studies on ginsenoside's possible therapeutic application in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Using organic compounds like ginseng and its various components may create new avenues for innovative treatment approaches development for neurological diseases. However, further research is necessary to confirm the stability and effectiveness of ginsenosides for neurodegenerative disease.

Abstract
Intestinal inflammatory imbalance and immune dysfunction may lead to a spectrum of intestinal diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and gastrointestinal tumors. As the king of herbs, ginseng has exerted a wide range of pharmacological effects in various diseases. Especially, it has been shown that ginseng and ginsenosides have strong immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory abilities in intestinal system. In this review, we summarized how ginseng and various extracts influence intestinal inflammation and immune function, including regulating the immune balance, modulating the expression of inflammatory mediators and cytokines, promoting intestinal mucosal wound healing, preventing colitis-associated colorectal cancer, recovering gut microbiota and metabolism imbalance, alleviating antibiotic-induced diarrhea, and relieving the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. In addition, the specific experimental methods and key control mechanisms are also briefly described.

Abstract
Saponins, consisting of sapogenins as their aglycones and carbohydrate chains, are widely found in plants and some marine organisms. Due to the complexity of the structure of saponins, involving different types of sapogenins and sugar moieties, investigation of their absorption and metabolism is limited, which further hinders the explanation of their bioactivities. Large molecular weight and complex structures limit the direct absorption of saponins rendering their low bioavailability. As such, their major modes of action may be due to interaction with the gastrointestinal environment, such as enzymes and nutrients, and interaction with the gut microbiota. Many studies have reported the interaction between saponins and gut microbiota, that is, the effects of saponins on changing the composition of gut microbiota, and gut microbiota playing an indispensable role in the biotransformation of saponins into sapogenins. However, the metabolic routes of saponins by gut microbiota and their mutual interactions are still sparse. Thus, this review summarizes the chemistry, absorption, and metabolic pathways of saponins, as well as their interactions with gut microbiota and impacts on gut health, to better understand how saponins exert their health-promoting functions.

Abstract
Ulcerative colitis (UC), characterized by syndromes including abdominal pain, bloody stool, diarrhea, weight loss, and repeated relapse, is a non-specific inflammatory intestinal disease. In recent years, with the changing dietary habits in China, the incidence of UC has shown an upward trend. UC belongs to the category of recorded as “diarrhea,” “chronic dysentery,” and “hematochezia” in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and Shenling BaiZhu powder (SLBZP) is one of the most effective and commonly used prescriptions. In this review, we aim to systematically summarize the clinical application and pharmacological mechanism of SLBZP in the treatment of UC to provide a theoretical basis for its clinical use and experimental evaluation of SLBZP. Our results showed that both SLBZP and SLBZP in combination with chemical drugs, have a significant therapeutic effect against UC with few adverse reactions. Furthermore, combined therapy was better than western medicine. Further, pathophysiological studies indicated that SLBZP has anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antioxidant effects, regulation relative cell signal transduction and regulation of gut microbiota. Although evidence suggests superior therapeutic efficacy of SLBZP for treating UC and the relative mechanism has been studied extensively, various shortcomings limit the existing research on the topic. There is a lack of UC animal models, especially UC with TCM syndromes, with no uniform standard and certain differences between the animal model and clinical syndrome. The dosage, dosage form, and therapeutic time of SLBZP are inconsistent and lack pharmacological verification, and clinical trial data are not detailed or sufficiently rigorous. In addition, SLSZP is composed of multiple Chinese drugs that contain massive numbers of ingredients and which or several components contribute to therapeutic effects. How they work synergistically together remains unknown. Therefore, on the one hand, large sample prospective cohort studies to clarify the clinical efficacy and safety of SLBZP in the treatment of UC are needed. In contrast, researchers should strengthen the study of the molecular biological mechanism of active ingredients and its synergistic actions, clarifying the mechanism of SLBZP in treating UC by multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway.
