Abstract
Veterinary drugs which are primarily meant for livestock treatment have now been categorised under potential food contaminant due to its unregulated usage and abuse. Their over usage by animal workers lead to production of contaminated animal-based food products which contain veterinary drug residues. These drugs are also misused as growth promoters to enhance the muscle to fat ratio in human body. This review highlights the misuse of such a veterinary drug; Clenbuterol. In this review, we have comprehensively discussed the usage of nanosensors to detect clenbuterol in food samples. Colorimetric, fluorescent, electrochemical, SERS and electrochemiluminescence are major categories of nanosensors that have been utilized for this purpose. The mechanism through which these nanosensors detect clenbuterol have been discussed in detail. The limit of detection and recovery percentage values of each nanosensor have been compared. This review will impart significant information on various nanosensors for clenbuterol detection in real samples.

Abstract
A growing number of β-agonists are illegally using for reducing animal fat deposition in animals, but the development of analytical methods always lags behind the emergence of new illegal compounds. Therefore, class specificity antibody-based immunoassays that can detect a great many β-agonists are important for timely supervision. In this study, a competitive inhibition enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ciELISA) based on a clenbuterol monoclonal antibody was developed to recognize 23 β-agonists and analogues. Holographic and three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (HQSAR and 3D QSAR) revealed that there are two critical binding epitopes on β-agonist hapten affecting antibody specificity, and these epitopes have been further validated using a ractopamine antibody with narrow specificity. Tert-butyl at C-2' epitope is needed to generate class specific antibodies, and different characteristics of substituents at benzene ring epitope would adjust antibody specificity. This investigation could provide reference for future design of β-agonist haptens.

Abstract
An anti-zilpaterol mAb with an IC50 of 0.31 ng mL−1 and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.02 ng mL−1 has been developed. For semi-quantitative detection in pork samples, the visual LOD is 0.5 ng mL−1 and the cut-off value is 5 ng mL−1.

Abstract
Aptamers, are being increasingly employed as favorable receptors for constructing highly sensitive biosensors, for their remarkable affinities towards certain targets including a wide scope of biological or chemical substances, and their superiority over other biologic receptors. The selectivity and affinity of the aptamers have been integrated with the wise design of the assay, applying suitable modifications, such as nanomaterials on the electrode surface, employing oligonucleotide-specific amplification strategies or, their combinations. After successful performance of the electrochemical aptasensors for biomedical applications, the food sector with its direct implication for human health, which demands rapid and sensitive and economic analytical solutions for determination of health threatening contaminants in all stages of production process, is the next field of research for developing efficient electrochemical aptasensors. The aim of this review is to categorize and introduce food hazards and summarize the recent electrochemical aptasensors that have been developed to address these contaminants.
