Abstract
Albendazole (ABZ) is one of the benzimidazole anthelmintics, and the overuse of ABZ in breeding industry can lead to drug resistance and a variety of toxic effects in humans. Since the residue markers of ABZ are the sum of ABZ and three metabolites (collectively referred to as ABZs), albendazole-sulfone (ABZSO2), albendazole-sulfoxide (ABZSO), and albendazole-2-amino-sulfone (ABZNH2SO2), an antibody able to simultaneously recognize ABZs with high affinity is in urgent need to develop immunoassay for screening purpose. In this work, an unreported hapten, 5-(propylthio)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-amine, was designed and synthesized, which maximally exposed the characteristic sulfanyl group of ABZ to the animal immune system to induce expected antibody. One monoclonal antibody (Mab) that can simultaneously detect ABZs was obtained with IC50 values of 0.20, 0.26, 0.77, and 10.5 μg/L for ABZ, ABZSO2, ABZSO, and ABZNH2SO2 in ic-ELISA under optimized conditions respectively, which has been never achieved in previous reports. For insight into the recognition profiles of the Mab, we used computational chemistry method to parameterize cross-reactive molecules in aspects of conformation, electrostatic fields, and hydrophobicity, revealing that the hydrophobicity and conformation of characteristic group of molecules might be the key factors that together influence antibody recognition with analytes. Furthermore, the practicability of the developed ic-ELISA was verified by detecting ABZs in spiked milk, beef, and liver samples with recoveries of 60% to 108.8% and coefficient of variation (CV) of 1.0% to 15.9%.

Abstract
In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer capable of recognizing 8 benzimidazoles was first synthesized. The computation simulation showed that the shape and size of used template were the main factors influencing its recognition ability. Then the polymer was used as recognition reagent to prepare a chemiluminescence sensor on conventional 96-well microplate. The sample solution and a HRP-labeled hapten were added into the microplate wells to perform competitive binding, and the light signal was initiated with 4-(imidazol-1-yl)phenol enhanced luminol-H2O2 system. The optimized sensor was used to determine the residues of 8 benzimidazoles in mutton and beef. Result showed that the sensor achieved ultrahigh sensitivity (limits of detection of 1.5-21 pg/mL), rapid assay process (18 min) and satisfactory recovery (65.8%-91.2%). Furthermore, this sensor could be reused for 4 times. Therefore, this sensor could be used as a rapid, simple, sensitive and durable tool for screening the residual benzimidazoles in meat.

Abstract
A colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay based on a generic monoclonal antibody is developed for the simultaneous detection of benzimidazoles and metabolite residues in milk samples. The monoclonal antibody is prepared using 2-(methoxycarbonylamino)-3H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid as the hapten, and it can recognize 11 types of benzimidazoles simultaneously. The immunochromatographic strip is assembled and labeled using gold nanoparticles. This strip can detect 11 benzimidazoles including albendazole, albendazole s-oxide, albendazole sulfone, fenbendazole, fenbendazole sulfone, flubendazole, mebendazole, parbendazole, oxfendazole, oxibendazole, and carbendazim within 15 min in milk samples. Results are obtained visually with the naked eye, and the cutoff values and the visual limit of detection values for these benzimidazoles are 25, 6.25, 12.5, 12.5, 50, 25, 50, 50, 50, 6.25, and 25 ng mL-1 , and 6.25, 3.125, 3.125, 1.56, 12.5, 6.25, 12.5, 12.5, 6.25, 0.78, and 12.5 ng mL-1 , respectively. Results are also obtained using a hand-held strip scan reader, with calculated limit of detection values for these benzimidazoles of 0.83, 0.77, 1.83, 0.98, 7.67, 3.50, 3.96, 5.71, 0.92, 0.59, and 1.69 ng mL-1 , respectively. In short, the developed paper sensor is a useful tool for rapid and simple screening of residues of benzimidazoles in milk samples.
