Tailor-Made Specific Recognition of Cyromazine Pesticide Integrated in a Potentiometric Strip Cell for Environmental and Food Analysis

Screen-printed ion-selective electrodes were designed and characterized for the assessment of cyromazine (CYR) pesticide. A novel approach is to design tailor-made specific recognition sites in polymeric membranes using molecularly imprinted polymers for cyromazine (CR) determination (sensor I). Another sensor (sensor II) is the plasticized PVC membrane incorporating cyromazine/tetraphenyl borate ion association complex. The charge-transfer resistance and water layer reached its minimal by incorporating Polyaniline (PANI) solid-contact ISE. The designed electrodes demonstrated Nernstain response over a linear range 1.0 × 10-2-5.2 × 10-6 and 1.0 × 10-2-5.7 × 10-5 M with a detection limit 2.2 × 10-6 and 8.1 × 10-6 M for sensors I and II, respectively. The obtained slopes were 28.1 ± 2.1 (r2 = 0.9999) and 36.4 ± 1.6 (r2 = 0.9991) mV/decade, respectively. The results showed that the proposed electrodes have a fast and stable response, good reproducibility, and applicability for direct measurement of CYR content in commercial pesticide preparations and soil samples sprayed with CYR pesticide. The results obtained from the proposed method are fairly in accordance with those using the standard official method.

Chlorinated Cyanurates: Review of Water Chemistry and Associated Drinking Water Implications

Since 1958, cyanuric acid and two chlorinated cyanurates, commonly referred to as dichlor (anhydrous sodium dichloroisocyanurate or sodium dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate) or trichlor (trichloroisocyanuric acid), have been added to outdoor swimming pools to stabilize chlorine residual by minimizing sunlight related degradation. Subsequently in July 2001, dichlor and trichlor were approved for routine drinking water treatment under the United States' Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Registration Act, and manufacturers have achieved NSF 60 certification for dichlor or trichlor addition to drinking water. Currently in the United States, dichlor or trichlor drinking water use may be approved by states, tribes, or territories. One complicating factor with dichlor or trichlor is that the actual free chlorine concentration in these systems cannot be measured accurately by currently approved methods. This review summarizes the existing water chemistry associated with dichlor and trichlor use as a chlorine source in drinking water along with the associated implications.

Simultaneous determination of cyromazine and dicyclanil in animal edible tissues using UPLC-MS/MS

Cyromazine and dicyclanil are both used as insect growth regulators. This paper describes an easy and innovative simultaneous extraction method for residues of cyromazine and dicyclanil in food of animal origin, and a confirmation procedure using UHPLC-MS/MS. The sample was extracted, deproteinised by 1% trichloracetic acid in water-acetonitrile, followed by selective defatting using hexane based on the degree of matrix complexity; cleaned-up on an mixed-mode cation exchange (MCX) cartridge; and quantified by using matrix-matched calibration. The mean recoveries were all between 62.0% and 99.2%, and the RSDs were all below 9.94%. The present method was rapid, sensitive and reliable, which was applied to the quantitative analysis of these residues in animal tissues.

A Simple HPLC-DAD Method for the Analysis of Melamine in Protein Supplements: Validation Using the Accuracy Profiles

The study presents a fully validated simple high-performance liquid chromatography method with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD), able to accurately determine the melamine, fraudulently added, in protein supplements, commonly used from healthy adults to enhance exercise or sport performance. The validation strategy was intentionally oriented towards routine use and the reliability of the method rather than extreme performance. For this reason, validation by accuracy profile, including estimation of uncertainty, was chosen. This procedure, based on the concept of total error (bias + standard deviation), clearly showed that this method was able to determine melamine over the range of 0.05–3.0 mg Kg−1, selected by taking into account the maximum residue levels (MRLs) proposed by European legislation to distinguish between the unavoidable background presence of melamine and unacceptable adulteration. The accuracy profile procedure established that at least 95% of the future results obtained with the proposed method would be within the ±15% acceptance limits of the validated HPLC-DAD method over the whole defined concentration range.
