Abstract
Lower light absorption and faster carrier recombination are significant challenges in photocatalysis. This study introduces a novel approach to address these challenges by anchoring cadmium sulfide quantum dots (CdS QDs) on inverse opal (IO)-TiO2, which increases light absorption and promotes carriers' separation by coupling slow-photon effect with Z-scheme charge transfer. Specifically, the IO-TiO2 was created by etching a polystyrene opal template, which resulted in a periodic structure that enhances light absorption by reflecting light in the stop band. The size of CdS quantum dots (QDs) was regulated to achieve appropriate alignment of energy bands between CdS QDs and IO-TiO2, promoting carrier transfer through alterations in charge transfer modes and resulting in synergistic-amplified photocatalysis. Theoretical simulations and electrochemical investigations demonstrated the coexistence of slow-photon effects and Z-scheme transfer. The system's photodegradation performance was tested using rhodamine B as a model. This novel hierarchical structure of the Z-scheme heterojunction exhibits degradability 7.82 and 4.34 times greater than pristine CdS QDs and IO-TiO2, respectively. This study serves as a source of inspiration for enhancing the photocatalytic capabilities of IO-TiO2 and broadening its scope of potential applications.

Abstract
The advances in heterogeneous photocatalysts are still confined to evaluating the functional photocatalytic activity of catalysts in simple batch-mode operation. Nevertheless, the long-term stability, recovery-reusability, and cost-effectiveness of photocatalysts are critical issues in practical applications for pollution control. This study examined the critical parameters to improve the photocatalytic degradation activity of the antibiotic tetracycline and strategized successful continuous performance in a two-stage photocatalytic process adopting sequencing batch-mode microbubble upflow airlift reactor (UALR) followed by the centrifugal separation of CdS nanoparticles (NPs). The most effective strategy for NPs separation was a sequential combination of gravity separation (10 min settling) in the settling phase and subsequent high-speed centrifugation (5 min at 25,000×g) of the settled NPs sediments, providing an economic benefit by reducing the centrifugation capacity. During steady state operation under the optimal conditions, the UALR showed reliable performance, resulting in 97-91% and 85-81% degradation efficiency at 60- and 30-min reaction time per cycle, respectively. A weak basic condition (pH 8) and dissolved oxygen (DO) supplementation increased the photocatalytic activity by 12% (0.0292 min-1) and 30% (0.0363 min-1) compared to the control. Trapping studies confirmed the enhanced performance using various reactive oxygen species scavengers, revealing an increase in •OH generation (6.5%).

Abstract
Inverse opal (IO) macroporous semiconductor materials with unique physicochemical advantages have been widely used in solar-related environmental areas. In this minireview, we first summarize the synthetic methods of IO materials, emphasizing the two-step and three-step approaches, with the typical physicochemical properties being compared where applicable. We subsequently discuss the application of IO semiconductors (e.g., TiO2, ZnO, g-C3N4) in various photo-related environmental techniques, including photo- and photoelectro-catalytic organic pollutant degradation in water, optical sensors for environmental monitoring, and water disinfection. The engineering strategies of these hierarchical structures for optimizing the activities for different catalytic reactions are discussed, ranging from heterojunction construction, cocatalyst loading, and heteroatom doping, to surface defect construction. Structure-activity relationships are established correspondingly. With a systematic understanding of the unique properties and catalytic activities, this review is expected to orient the design and structure optimization of IO semiconductor materials for photo-related performance improvement in various environmental techniques. Finally, the challenges of emerging IO structured semiconductors and future development directions are proposed.

Abstract
This study first reports on the tetracycline photodegradation with the synthesized heterostructured titanium oxide nanotubes coupled with cuprous oxide photocatalyst. The large surface area and more active sites on TiO2 nanotubes with a reduced band gap (coupling of Cu2O) provide faster photodegradation of tetracycline under visible light conditions. Cytotoxicity experiments performed on the RAW 264.7 (mouse macrophage) and THP-1 (human monocytes) cell lines of tetracycline and the photodegraded products of tetracycline as well as quenching experiments were also performed. The effects of different parameters like pH, photocatalyst loading concentration, cuprous oxide concentration, and tetracycline load on the photodegradation rate were investigated. With an enhanced surface area of nanotubes and a reduced band gap of 2.58 eV, 1.5 g/L concentration of 10% C-TAC showed the highest efficiency of visible-light-driven photodegradation (∼100% photodegradation rate in 60 min) of tetracycline at pH 5, 7, and 9. The photodegradation efficiency is not depleted up to five consecutive batch cycles. Quenching experiments confirmed that superoxide radicals and hydroxyl radicals are the most involved reactive species in the photodegradation of tetracycline, while valance band electrons are the least involved reactive species. The cytotoxicity percentage of tetracycline and its degraded products on RAW 264.7 (-0.932) as well as THP-1 (-0.931) showed a negative correlation with the degradation percentage with a p-value of 0.01. The toxicity-free effluent of photodegradation suggests the application of the synthesized photocatalyst in wastewater treatment.

Abstract
{001}TiO2/TiOF2 photocatalytic composites with a high activity {001} crystal plane were prepared by one-step hydrothermal methods using butyl titanate as a titanium source and hydrofluoric acid as a fluorine source. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), raman spectroscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption curve (BET), UV-Vis diffuse absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and fluorescence spectroscopy (PL) were used to evaluate the structure, morphology, specific surface area, optical properties, and photocarrier separation ability of {001}TiO2/TiOF2. Ammonia nitrogen was taken as the target pollutant, and the degradation performance of the catalyst was investigated. The results show that hydrofluoric acid improves the content of {001} crystal plane of TiO2 with high activity; it also improves the specific surface area and dispersion of the composite material and adjusts the ratio of {001}TiO2 to TiOF2 in the composite material to enhance the absorption capacity of the composite material and reduce the band gap width of the composite material. The degradation rate of ammonia nitrogen by 100 mg F15 is 93.19% when the initial concentration of ammonia nitrogen is 100 mg/L and pH is 10. Throughout the reaction process, the {001}TiO2/TiOF2 composite produces superoxide anion radical (·O2-) and hydroxyl radical (·OH) to oxidize NH3·H2O and generate N2 accompanied by a small amount of NO3- and NO2-.

Abstract
In this paper, spherical-shaped pure phase djurleite (Cu31S16) and roxbyite (Cu7S4) nanoparticles were prepared by a solvothermal decomposition of copper(II) dithiocarbamate complex in dodecanthiol (DDT). The reaction temperature was used to control the phases of the samples, which were represented as Cu31S16 (120 °C), Cu31S16 (150 °C), Cu7S4 (220 °C), and Cu7S4 (250 °C) and were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), and absorption spectroscopy. The samples were used as photocatalysts for the degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light irradiation. The results of the study showed that Cu7S4 (250 °C) exhibited the best activity in the reaction system with the TC degradation rate of up to 99% within 120 min of light exposure, while the Cu31S16 (120 °C) system was only 46.5% at the same reaction condition. In general, roxbyite Cu7S4 (250 °C) could be considered as a potential catalyst for the degradation of TC in solution.

Abstract
In this study, three-dimensional nested WO3/F-TiO2-{001} photocatalysts with different WO3 loadings were prepared by a hydrothermal process and used to degrade methylene blue (MB). The photocatalysts with various ratios of WO3 to OH-TiOF2 can be transformed into a three-dimensional network WO3/F-TiO2 hetero-structure with {001} surface exposure. The results showed that the composite catalyst with 5% WO3, denoted as FWT5, had the best comprehensive degradation effect. FWT5 has a limited band gap of 2.9 eV, which can be used as an advanced photocatalyst to respond to sunlight and degrade MB. The average pore diameter of the composite catalyst is 10.3 nm, and the multi-point specific surface area is 56 m2 g−1. Compared with pure TiOF2, the average pore size of the composite catalyst decreased by 8.44 nm and the specific surface area increased by 51.2 m2 g−1, which provides a larger contact space for the catalytic components and pollutants. Moreover, TiO2 on the {001} surface has higher photocatalytic activity and methylene blue can be better degraded. Under the irradiation of 0.03 g FWT5 composite catalyst with a simulated solar light source for 2 h, the degradation rate of 10 mg L−1 methylene blue can reach 82.9%. The trapping experiment showed that photo-generated holes were the principal functional component of WO3/F-TiO2-{001} photo-catalysis, which could capture OH− and form hydroxyl radical (˙OH) and improved the photocatalytic degradation performance. Kinetic studies show that the photocatalytic degradation of MB fits with the quasi-first order kinetic model. A new type of WO3/F-TiO2-{001} heterostructure semiconductor material with a three-dimensional network structure was successfully prepared by the hydrothermal method.![]()

Abstract
A kind of high-efficiency photocatalyst of the three-dimensional flower-like TiO2/TiOF2 was synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method. XRD, FE-SEM, EDS, HTEM, BET, XPS, PL, and UV-Vis-DRS were utilized to characterize the photocatalyst. The photocatalyst of TiO2/TiOF2 shows a narrow band gap of 2.8 eV. The generation of Ti3+ and an oxygen vacancy (Ov) in the photocatalyst are helpful to increase the absorption of visible light, and to inhibit faster charge recombination by capturing photogenerated carriers. Through the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) under simulated sunlight, the photocatalytic activity and stability of the synthesized samples were investigated. The results showed that the removal rate of tetracycline hydrochloride was 59% only in 0.5 h of dark reaction and 85% in 0.5 h of simulated sunlight. The removal efficiency of the photocatalyst for the adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of TCH is higher than that of the single TiO2, TiOF2, and Degussa P25. The synthesized three-dimensional flower-like TiO2/TiOF2 has great application potential in the treatment of antibiotic wastewater.

Abstract
Antibiotics are chemical compounds that are used to kill or prevent bacterial growth. They are used in different fields, such as the medical field, agriculture, and veterinary. Antibiotics end up in wastewater, which causes the threat of developing antibacterial resistance; therefore, antibiotics must be eliminated from wastewater. Different conventional elimination methods are limited due to their high cost and effort, or incomplete elimination. Semiconductor-assisted photocatalysis arises as an effective elimination method for different organic wastes including antibiotics. A variety of semiconducting materials were tested to eliminate antibiotics from wastewater; nevertheless, research is still ongoing due to some limitations. This review summarizes the recent studies regarding semiconducting material modifications for antibiotic degradation using visible light irradiation.
