Abstract
BACKGROUND Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a disease of weakened pelvic floor support tissues, leading to changes in the pelvic organ position and function of pelvic organs, with long-term effects on women. This study aimed to assess pelvic floor function using electrophysiology and clinical symptoms, exploring the risk factors for PFD one month postpartum. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 845 women from postpartum outpatient clinic of Nantong Affiliated Hospital from August 2019 to October 2021. Pelvic floor muscle strength was evaluated via pelvic floor surface electromyography. Clinical symptoms (urinary incontinence (UI) and pelvic organ prolapse) were diagnosed by gynecologists. Sociodemographic, pregnancy, and obstetrical data were obtained from self-reported questionnaires and electronic records. RESULTS The study identified maternal age, parity, immigrant status, and economic income as factors were related to PFD. Gestational constipation increased the risk of abnormal resting muscle strength (OR:1.553, 95%CI: 1.022-2.359). Cesarean delivery was associated with higher rates of abnormal resting muscle strength than vaginal delivery (post-resting stage: OR, 2.712; 95% CI, 1.189-6.185), but a decreased incidence of UI (OR: 0.302; 95% CI, 0.117-0.782). Increased gestational weight gain was correlated with a greater risk of developing UI (OR:1.030, 95%CI: 1.002-1.058). Women with vaginal inflammation faced a higher risk of abnormal fast-twitch muscle (OR: 2.311, 95%CI: 1.125-4.748). CONCLUSIONS In addition to uncontrollable factors like mode of delivery, age, and parity, interventions targeting weight gain and constipation during pregnancy and vaginal flora could mitigate the risks of PFD. Educational programs for pregnant women should emphasize a proper diet and lifestyle. For women with vaginal inflammation, clinical treatment should be carried out as soon as possible to avoid further aggravating the damage to the pelvic floor muscles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Postpartum depression is one of the most common complications after childbearing. Urinary incontinence is a frequent symptom during pregnancy and the postnatal period, often being the first time that women experience it. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the evidence on the association between urinary incontinence and postpartum depression and to assess whether this association becomes weaker at 6 months after childbirth. DATA SOURCES MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and PsycINFO were searched from inception to December 26, 2023. STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Cross-sectional and cohort studies addressing the association between urinary incontinence and postpartum depression were included. METHODS Pooled odds ratios and their 95% confidence intervals, and 95% prediction intervals were estimated using a DerSimonian and Laird random-effects model for the association between urinary incontinence and postpartum depression. Subgroup analyses were conducted on the basis of time after delivery (<6 or ≥6 months). The risk of bias was assessed with the National Institutes of Health Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort Studies. RESULTS Eleven published studies were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. Overall, the odds ratio for the association between urinary incontinence and postpartum depression was 1.45 (95% confidence interval, 1.11-1.79; 95% prediction interval, 0.49-2.40; I2=65.9%; P=.001). For the 7 cohort studies, the odds ratio was 1.63 (95% confidence interval, 1.35-1.91; 95% prediction interval, 1.14-2.13; I2=11.1%; P=.345). For the 4 cross-sectional studies, the odds ratio was 1.05 (95% confidence interval, 1.04-1.05; 95% prediction interval, 1.04-1.06; I2=0.0%; P=.413). According to the time after delivery, the odds ratio estimates for cohort studies with a postpartum period <6 months were 1.44 (95% confidence interval, 1.07-1.81; prediction interval, 0.63-2.25; I2=0.0%; P=.603) and 1.53 (95% confidence interval, 1.16-1.89; prediction interval, 0.41-2.65; I2=50.7%; P=.087) for those with a postpartum period ≥6 months. CONCLUSION This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that urinary incontinence may be a potential predictor of postpartum depression. Thus, it is important that health care professionals offer support and treatment options to women who experience these conditions.

Abstract
Background The postpartum period is a vital phase for a mother as she undergoes a role transition in her life, in addition to physiological changes. Among all discomforts experienced during this period, constipation is more common and it can cause lifelong complications such as haemorrhoids, rectal prolapse and anal fissures if left untreated. Adequate care, education and compliance with proper postpartum diet and exercise can prevent it. Aim and objective This study intended to assess the effect of video-assisted teaching in preventing constipation among postpartum women in comparison with routine care. Settings and design Antenatal outpatient department and postnatal ward. Experimental research design-randomised controlled trial. Methods and material Totally, 160 antenatal women in the III trimester were selected by convenience sampling and randomised into study and control groups. Data were collected using a semistructured questionnaire. Postpartum women in the study group received video-assisted teaching regarding the postnatal diet and exercise for the prevention of constipation developed by the researcher with reference from books, journals, Indian council of medical research Recommended dietary allowances table and expert opinion. Postpartum women in the control group received routine care as a pamphlet regarding the care of women after delivery which was routinely given to all mothers along with the discharge slip. Constipation Assessment Scale was used to assess the presence of constipation at the end of second week of post partum. Statistical analysis used Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results Data showed 27% of postpartum women in control group had constipation comparing to only 6.1% of the women in the study group (p<0.05). There was a significant association between consumption of fruits, green leafy vegetables, increased fluid intake, regular walking and the status of constipation (p<0.001). Conclusions Video-assisted teaching was effective in preventing constipation among postpartum women.

Abstract
Objective Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is highly prevalent among women. Pelvic floor ultrasound (PFU) is a critical method for assessing PFD. This study examined the knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) of women of childbearing age regarding PFD and PFU. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted between August 18, 2022, and September 20, 2022, in Sichuan, China. A total of 504 women of childbearing age participated in this study. A self-administered questionnaire was developed to assess KAP regarding PFD and PFU. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess the association between demographic characteristics and KAP. Results The average scores for knowledge, attitudes, and practice were 12.53, 39.98, and 16.51 out of 17, 45, and 20, respectively. Despite adequate knowledge of PFD symptoms, aging-related risks, and PFD harms (correct rates > 80%), participants showed poor knowledge about the benefits of PFU, PFU types, and Kegel exercise (correct rates < 70%). High scores in knowledge and attitude (odds ratio = 1.23 and 1.11, P < 0.001 and P = 0.005, respectively) were independent predictors of good practice, while never having been pregnant (odds ratio = 0.10, P < 0.001), alcohol consumption (odds ratio = 0.09, P = 0.027), and not being diagnosed with PFD or an unclear diagnosis independently predicted poor practice (both odds ratio = 0.03, both P < 0.001). Conclusion Women of childbearing age in Sichuan, China, showed moderate knowledge, positive attitude, and good practice regarding PFD and PFU. Knowledge, attitude, pregnancy history, alcohol consumption, and PFD diagnosis are associated with practice.

Abstract
Objectives To evaluate pelvic floor muscle strength using surface electromyography and risk factors for pelvic floor muscle strength in the early postpartum period. Methods This retrospective study included 21,302 participants who visited Fujian
Maternity and Child Health Hospital from September 2019 to February 2022. All participants
were assessed by
medical professionals for general information and surface electromyography. Results Univariate analysis indicated that age was inversely related to tonic and endurance contractions. In contrast, all the other variables, including education level, body mass index, neonatal weight, and number of fetuses, had a positive impact on rapid, tonic, and endurance contractions. Likewise, parity was also positively associated with rapid contractions. In addition, compared with vaginal delivery, cesarean section delivery had a protective effect on the amplitude of the three types of contractions. Stepwise regression analysis showed that both age and neonatal weight had a negative linear relationship with the amplitude of rapid, tonic and endurance contractions. In contrast, the amplitude of rapid, tonic and endurance contractions significantly increased as body mass index, parity (≤ 3), education level and gestational weight gain (endurance contractions only) increased. Participants with cesarean section delivery showed positive effects on rapid, tonic, and endurance contractions compared to participants with vaginal delivery. Conclusions We found that age, neonatal weight, vaginal delivery, episiotomy, and forceps delivery were risk factors for pelvic floor muscle strength; in contrast, body mass index, parity (≤ 3) and gestational weight gain had a positive relationship with pelvic floor muscle strength.
