Abstract
To precise screening concentration of ascorbic acid (AA), a novel electrochemical sensor was prepared using palladium nanoparticles decorated on nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dot modified glassy carbon electrode (PdNPs@N-GQD/GCE). For this purpose, nitrogen doped GQD nanoparticles (N-GQD) were synthesized from a citric acid condensation reaction in the presence of ethylenediamine and subsequently modified by palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs). The electrochemical behavior of AA was investigated, in which the oxidation peak appeared at 0 V related to the AA oxidation. Considering the synergistic effect of Pd nanoparticles as an active electrocatalyst, and N-GQD as an electron transfer accelerator and electrocatalytic activity improving agent, PdNPs@N-GQD hybrid materials showed excellent activity in the direct oxidation of AA. In the optimal conditions, the voltammetric response was linear in the range from 30 to 700 nM and the detection limit was calculated to be 23 nM. The validity and the efficiency of the proposed sensor were successfully tested and confirmed by measuring AA in real samples of chewing tablets, and fruit juice.

Abstract
A novel molecularly imprinted electrochemical aptasensor (MIEAS) was constructed for selective progesterone (P4) detection based on SnO2-graphene (SnO2-Gr) nanomaterial and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). SnO2-Gr with a large specific area and excellent conductivity improved the adsorption capacity of P4. Aptamer, as biocompatible monomer, was captured by AuNPs on modified electrode through Au-S bond. An electropolymerized molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) film consisted of p-aminothiophenol as chemical functional monomer and P4 as template molecule. Due to the synergetic effect of MIP and aptamer towards P4, this MIEAS exhibited better selectivity than the sensor with MIP or aptamer as single recognition element. The prepared sensor had a low detection limit of 1.73 × 10-15 M in a wide linear range from 10-14 M to 10-5 M. Satisfactory recovery obtained in tap water and milk samples proved that this sensor had great potential in environmental and food analysis.

Abstract
The present study reports the development and application of a flow injection analysis (FIA) system for the simultaneous determination of uric acid (UA) and caffeine (CAF) using cathodically pretreated boron-doped diamond electrode (CPT-BDD) and multiple-pulse amperometry (MPA). The electrochemical profiles of UA and CAF were analyzed via cyclic voltammetry in the potential range of 0.20-1.7 V using 0.10 mol L-1 H2SO4 solution as supporting electrolyte. Under optimized conditions, two oxidation peaks at potentials of 0.80 V (UA) and 1.4 V (CAF) were observed; the application of these potentials using multiple-pulse amperometry yielded concentration linear ranges of 5.0 × 10-8-2.2 × 10-5 mol L-1 (UA) and 5.0 × 10-8-1.9 × 10-5 mol L-1 (CAF) and limits of detection of 1.1 × 10-8 and 1.3 × 10-8 mol L-1 for UA and CAF, respectively. The proposed method exhibited good repeatability and stability, and no interference was detected in the electrochemical signals of UA and CAF in the presence of glucose, NaCl, KH2PO4, CaCl2, urea, Pb, Ni, and Cd. The application of the FIA-MPA method for the analysis of environmental samples resulted in recovery rates ranging between 98 and 104%. The results obtained showed that the BDD sensor exhibited a good analytical performance when applied for CAF and UA determination, especially when compared to other sensors reported in the literature.

Abstract
Paraquat (PQ) is a nonselective contact herbicide used in agriculture for the control of broad leaf weeds, which would cause irreversible damage to human organs even at very low concentrations. Therefore, the trace residue detection of PQ in the environment is of vital importance. Here, a novel graphene electrochemical transistor (GECT) for PQ detection is reported for the first time. The key to the device design is the application of a layer of Ag nanoparticle (Ag NP) modified monolayer graphene as the channel layer. Due to the good electrochemical activity of Ag NPs for PQ detection, the device exhibits excellent sensitivity for PQ with the detection limit of 0.068 nM and a wide linear range from 0.1 nM to 5 mM. The GECT sensor also reveals good selectivity toward several common interferents and exhibits satisfactory recoveries for PQ detection when using Chinese cabbage as a simulant to deduce the real detection situation. The GECT sensor not only provides an efficient method for the detection of PQ residues, but also provides an effective grafting platform for the construction of novel high-sensitivity electrochemical sensors.

Abstract
To develop a highly sensitive and selective biosensor for detecting noxious biomolecules from the environment, we examined catechol (Cc) adsorption in pristine and transition metal (TM = Sc, Cu, and Pd) embedded 2D holey graphyne (hGY) monolayers using the first-principles density functional theory method. The interaction between Cc and the pristine hGY is purely weak, and hence the response of the sensing device will be difficult to detect. Therefore, the TM doping strategy is adopted to improve the sensitivity. According to our findings, Sc binds strongly to the hGY monolayer, with a binding energy of -4.09 eV and a charge transfer of 1.89e from the valence orbitals of Sc to the C 2p orbitals. Later on, the Cc adsorption on the TM-embedded hGY was investigated. The interaction of Cc with the transition metal involves charge transfer from Cc to the metal d orbital. A large binding energy of -3.22 eV and a significant charge transfer of about 0.9e from the O 2p orbitals of Cc to the valence orbital of Sc suggest that the Sc embedded hGY monolayer is a good choice for the efficient sensing of Cc molecules. Furthermore, ab initio MD simulations confirmed the structural stability of the Sc + hGY system at room temperature. We strongly believe that this theoretical work will aid the experimentalists in designing and developing 2D semiconducting nanolayer-based biosensors for commercial purposes.

Abstract
Background: Copper oxide nanoparticles doped with nonprecious metal species (Ni and Mn) were synthesized. Method: A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified by drop-casting of nanostructure suspensions, constructing Ni:Cu(OH)2/GCE, Mn:Cu(OH)2/GCE and Cu(OH)2/GCE. Results: The voltammetric oxidation of dopamine (DA) by the constructed electrodes confirmed that the electrocatalytic oxidation of DA is a reversible, pH-dependent, diffusion-controlled process; the best response was obtained by Mn:Cu(OH)2/GCE. A sensitive calibration graph (0.664 μA/μM) was produced for DA in the concentration range of 0.3-10.0 μM, with a detection limit of 79 nM using Mn:Cu(OH)2/GCE. Conclusion: The Mn:Cu(OH)2/GCE possessed an accurate response toward DA with an acceptable selectivity, stability and antifouling effect, revealing the applicability of the Mn:Cu(OH)2/GCE for DA analysis in biological samples.

Abstract
Analysis of food, pharmaceutical, and environmental compounds is an inevitable issue to evaluate quality of the compounds used in human life. Quality of drinking water, food products, and pharmaceutical compounds is directly associated with human health. Presence of forbidden additives in food products, toxic compounds in water samples and drugs with low quality lead to important problems for human health. Therefore, attention to analytical strategy for investigation of quality of food, pharmaceutical, and environmental compounds and monitoring presence of forbidden compounds in materials used by humans has increased in recent years. Analytical methods help to identify and quantify both permissible and unauthorized compounds present in the materials used in human daily life. Among analytical methods, electrochemical methods have been shown to have more advantages compared to other analytical methods due to their portability and low cost. Most of big companies have applied this type of analytical methods because of their fast and selective analysis. Due to simple operation and high diversity of electroanalytical sensors, these types of sensors are expected to be the future generation of analytical systems. Therefore, many scientists and researchers have focused on designing and fabrication of electroanalytical sensors with good selectivity and high sensitivity for different types of compounds such as drugs, food, and environmental pollutants. In this paper, we described the mechanism and different examples of DNA, enzymatic and electro-catalytic methods for electroanalytical determination of drug, food and environmental compounds.
