Self-Crosslinkable Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives from Silicone-(Meth)acrylate Telomer Syrups

In this study, a novel and environmentally friendly method for the preparation of photoreactive pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) was demonstrated. Adhesive binders based on n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, and 4-acryloyloxy benzophenone were prepared with a UV-induced telomerization process in the presence of triethylsilane (TES) as a telogen and acylphosphine oxide (APO) as a radical photoinitiator. The influence of TES (0−10 wt. parts) and APO (0.05−0.1 wt. parts/100 wt. parts of monomer mixtures) concentrations on the UV telomerization process kinetics was investigated using a photodifferential scanning calorimetry method and selected physicochemical features of the obtained silicone-(met)acrylate telomeric syrups (K-value, solid content, glass-transition temperature, and dynamic viscosity), as well as properties of the obtained PSAs (Tg, adhesion, tack, and cohesion), were studied. An increase in TES content caused a significant decrease in the Tg values (approx. 10 °C) and K-value (up to approximately 25 a.u.) of the dry telomers, as well as the dynamic viscosity of the telomeric syrups. PSAs were obtained through UV irradiation of thin polymer films consisting only of silicone-(meth)acrylate telomer solutions (without the use of additional chemical modifiers or of a protective gas atmosphere and protective layers). PSAs were characterized by very good adhesion (12.4 N/25 mm), cohesion at 20 °C (>72 h) and 70 °C (>72 h), and low glass-transition temperature (−25 °C).

Thiol‐ene Radical Coupling: A Powerful Technique for the Synthesis of Polymer Precursors, Block Copolymers and Graft Copolymers

This chapter aims to show how reaching functional oligomers and polymers by thiol‐ene radical coupling. According to the vinyl monomers used, different strategies can be adapted in order to reach either monofunctional or telechelic oligomers. For example, combination of thiol‐ene radical coupling onto a functional monomer provides high value oligomers such as silane‐coupling agents for composite materials. This chapter also discusses thiol‐ene radical coupling onto vinyl‐containing polymers, which leads to partial modification of the properties. Finally, we showed how thiol‐ene radical coupling allows for the synthesis of block copolymers such as PMMA‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PMMA.

Stabilized phosphatidylinositol-5-phosphate analogues as ligands for the nuclear protein ING2: chemistry, biology, and molecular modeling

The interaction of PtdIns(5)P with the tumor suppressor protein ING2 has been implicated in the regulation of chromatin modification. To enhance the stability of PtdIns(5)P for studies of the biological role in vivo, two phosphatase-resistant moieties were used to replace the labile 5-phosphate. The total asymmetric synthesis of the 5-methylenephosphonate (MP) and 5-phosphothionate (PT) analogues of PtdIns(5)P is described herein, and the resulting metabolically stabilized lipid analogues were evaluated in three ways. First, liposomes containing either the dioleoyl MP or PT analogues bound to recombinant ING2 similar to liposomes containing dipalmitoyl PtdIns(5)P, indicating that the replacement of the hydrolyzable 5-phosphate group does not compromise the binding. Second, the dioleoyl MP and PT PtdIns(5)P analogues were equivalent to dipalmitoyl PtdIns(5)P in augmenting cell death induced by a DNA double-strand break in HT1080 cells. Finally, molecular modeling and docking of the MP or PT analogues to the C-terminus PtdInsP-binding region of ING2 (consisting of a PHD finger and a polybasic region) revealed a number of complementary surface and electrostatic contacts between the lipids and ING2.
