Synthesis of Some Novel 2,4-Disubstituted Thiazoles as Possible Antimicrobial Agents

(E)-1-(2′,4′-Dimethyl)-(5-acetylthiazole)-(2,4″-difluorophenyl)-prop-2-en-1-one

Thiazole and chalcone motifs are of research interest to medicinal chemists due to their array of synthetic and biological utility. Hence, in the present study we intended to prepare (E)-1-(2′,4′-dimethyl)-(5-acetylthiazole)-(2,4″-difluorophenyl)-prop-2-en-1-one (3c) containing both these scaffolds. The compound 3c was synthesized by the acid-catalyzed condensation of 2,4-dimethyl-5-acetylthiazole with 2,4-difluorobenzaldehyde. Purification and characterization of the compound were carried out by recrystallization and spectral techniques including UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, Mass spectrometry and X-ray powdered diffractometry. The molecule 3c was successfully synthesized, purified, and characterized.

Ionic liquid catalyzed synthesis of 2-(indole-3-yl)-thiochroman-4-ones and their novel antifungal activities

2-(Indole-3-yl)-thiochroman-4-ones were synthesized via ionic liquid and tested for in vitro antifungal activity. The contribution of ionic liquid to Michael addition reaction is significant. Structures of all compounds are elucidated by (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR and HRMS. Most of these compounds showed better antifungal activity than fluconazole. The results suggest that 2-(indole-3-yl)-thiochroman-4-ones would be efficient antifungal agents.

Expression of genes of Rhizoctonia solani and the biocontrol Stachybotrys elegans during mycoparasitism of hyphae and sclerotia

Knowledge of mycoparasitism has been focused on how antagonists affect pathogens in relation to mechanisms, metabolites and gene expression. Just as microbial antagonists use a diverse arsenal of mechanisms to dominate interactions with hosts, hosts also have diverse responses to counteract antagonism. In this study differential gene expression of eight mycoparasitism-induced genes and eight host-response genes was monitored during in vivo interactions between the mycoparasite Stachybotrys elegans and hyphae and sclerotia of the host, Rhizoctonia solani over 5 d of interaction. Using real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, comparative analyses demonstrated that hyphal and sclerotial structures triggered different expression patterns. These results indicated that multiple regulatory mechanisms might be involved. The high elevated expression of some genes belonging to the mycoparasite and the host suggest that these genes play an important role during the mycoparasitic process and host defense respectively.
