Abstract
Sensing and monitoring hazardous contaminants in water and radioactive iodine sequestration is pivotal due to their detrimental impact on biological ecosystems. In this context, herein, a water stable zirconium-diimide based metallogel (Zr@MG) with fibrous columnar morphology is accomplished through the "heat set" method. The presence of diimide linkage with long aromatic chain manifests active luminescence properties in the linker as well as in the supramolecular framework structure. The as-synthesized Zr@MG xerogel can selectively detectCr2O72- (LOD = 0.52 ppm) and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) (LOD = 80.2 ppb) in the aqueous medium. The Zr@MG paper strip-based detection for Cr2O72- and nitro explosive makes this metallogel reliable and an attractive luminescent sensor for practical use. Moreover, a column-based dye separation experiment was performed to show selective capture of positively charged methylene blue (MB) dye with 98 % separation efficiency from the mixture of two dyes. Also, the Zr@MG xerogel showed effective iodine sequestration from the vapor phase (232 wt%).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The adsorption characteristics of Pb(2+) ions from aqueous solutions onto calix[4]naphthalene have been investigated. METHOD Calix[4]naphthalene was prepared by the condensation of 1-naphthol and formaldehyde (1:2) in presence of hydrochloric acid at 80 °C. The effect of various operation parameters, such as solution pH, initial metal ion concentration, contact time, and temperature, on the adsorption capacity of calix[4]naphthalene for Pb(2+) have been investigated. RESULT Experimental results showed that the adsorption of Pb(2+) ions increased with the increase in solution pH and temperature. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models were used to describe the adsorption behavior of Pb(2+) by calix[4]naphthalene. Equilibrium data fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm model and the maximum adsorption capacity of calix[4]naphthalene for Pb(2+) at 30 °C was found to be 29.15 mg g(-1). Kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption followed pseudo-second order model and the thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The obtained results demonstrated that calix[4]naphthalene can be used as an effective adsorbent for Pb(2+) ions removal from water.

Abstract
A new p-tert-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-1,3-bisglyciyl-calix[4]arene functionalized aminopropylpolysiloxane resin (APPS-CA) has been prepared and investigated for selective solid-phase extraction (SPE) of trace Cr (III), Cu (II), Ni (II), Co (II) and Zn (II) prior to their determination by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The characterization of the surface modification was performed on the basis of FT-IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis. The separation/preconcentration conditions of analytes were investigated, including effect of pH, the shaking time, the sample flow rate and volume, the elution condition, the interfering ions and stability test. At pH 4.0, the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr (III), Cu (II), Ni (II), Co (II) and Zn (II) were 47.2, 34.3, 52.8, 29.8 and 36.4 mg g(-1), respectively. The adsorbed metal ions were quantitatively eluted by 2.0 mL of 0.5 mol L(-1) HCl. Common coexisting ions did not interfere with the separation. According to the definition of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, the detection limits (3 sigma) of this method were found to be 0.58, 0.33, 0.47, 0.61 and 0.14 ng mL(-1) for Cr (III), Cu (II), Ni (II), Co (II) and Zn (II), respectively. The relative standard deviation under optimum conditions is less than 4.0%. The application of this new adsorbent to preconcentration trace Cr (III), Cu (II), Ni (II), Co (II) and Zn (II) of two water samples gave high accurate and precise results.

Abstract
In this paper, the adsorbents were prepared from cellulose-grafted with calix[4]arene polymers (CGC[4]P-1 and CGC[4]P-2) and their sorption properties studied. The polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy. They were then used to evaluate the sorption properties of some heavy metal cations (Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+) and Pb(2+)) and dichromate anions (Cr(2)O(7)(2-)/HCr(2)O(7)(-)). Results showed that CGC[4]P-2 was a good sorbent for heavy metal cations while CGC[4]P-1 was ineffective. In the studies of dichromate anion sorption, it was observed that CGC[4]P-2 was a more highly effective sorbent at pH 1.5 than was CGC[4]P-1.
