Synthesis and characterization of novel fluorinated thermoplastic polyurethane with high transmittance and superior physical properties

The Hydrogen Bonding in the Hard Domains of the Siloxane Polyurea Copolymer Elastomers

For probing the structure-property relationships of the polyurea elastomers, we synthesize the siloxane polyurea copolymer elastomer by using two aminopropyl-terminated polysiloxane monomers with low and high number-average molecular weight (Mn), i.e., L-30D and H-130D. To study the influence of the copolymer structures on the film properties, these films are analyzed to obtain the tensile performance, UV-vis spectra, cross-sectional topographies, and glass transition temperature (Tg). The two synthetic thermoplastic elastomer films are characterized by transparency, ductility, and the Tg of the hard domains, depending on the reacting compositions. Furthermore, the film elasticity behavior is studied by the strain recovery and cyclic tensile test, and then, the linear fitting of the tensile data is used to describe the film elasticity based on the Mooney-Rivlin model. Moreover, the temperature-dependent infrared (IR) spectra during heating and cooling are conducted to study the strength and recovery rate of the hydrogen bonding, respectively, and their influence on the film performance is further analyzed; the calculated Mn of the hard segment chains is correlated to the macroscopic recovery rate of the hydrogen bonding. These results can add deep insight to the structure-property relationships of the siloxane polyurea copolymer.

A colorless, transparent and mechanically robust polyurethane elastomer: synthesis, chemical resistance and adhesive properties

In this work, a transparent, mechanically strong and chemically resistant XDI-PUE adhesive was fabricated, which exhibited a remarkable tensile stress of 21.0 MPa with a break strain of 1608%. XDI-PUE also showed good chemical resistance towards toluene and NaOH aqueous solution.

A New Strategy for the Synthesis of Fluorinated Polyurethane

An alternating fluorinated copolymer based on chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) and butyl vinyl ether (BVE) was synthesized by RAFT/MADIX living/controlled polymerization in the presence of S-benzyl O-ethyl dithiocarbonate (BEDTC). Then, using the obtained poly(CTFE-alt-BVE) as a macro chain transfer agent (macro-CTA), a block copolymer was prepared by chain extension polymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc). After a basic methanolysis process, the poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) block was transferred into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Finally, a novel fluorinated polyurethane with good surface properties due to the mobility of the flexible fluorinated polymer chains linked to the network was obtained via reaction of the copolymer bearing the blocks of PVA with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as a cross-linking agent.

Synthesis and Properties of Novel Polyurethanes Containing Long-Segment Fluorinated Chain Extenders

In this study, novel biodegradable long-segment fluorine-containing polyurethane (PU) was synthesized using 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and 1H,1H,10H,10H-perfluor-1,10-decanediol (PFD) as hard segment, and polycaprolactone diol (PCL) as a biodegradable soft segment. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to perform ¹H NMR, ¹⁹F NMR, ¹⁹F–¹⁹F COSY, ¹H–¹⁹F COSY, and HMBC analyses on the PFD/PU structures. The results, together with those from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), verified that the PFD/PUs had been successfully synthesized. Additionally, the soft segment and PFD were changed, after which FTIR and XPS peak-differentiation-imitating analyses were employed to examine the relationship of the hydrogen bonding reaction between the PFD chain extender and PU. Subsequently, atomic force microscopy was used to investigate the changes in the microphase structure between the PFD chain extender and PU, after which the effects of the thermal properties between them were investigated through thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and dynamic mechanical analysis. Finally, the effects of the PFD chain extender on the mechanical properties of the PU were investigated through a tensile strength test.
