Abstract
Due to the enormous threat of protactinium to the environment and human health, its disposal and chemistry have long been important topics in nuclear science. [PaO(H₂O)₆]3+ is proposed as the predominant species in hydrous and acidic solutions, but little is known about its formation mechanism. In this study, density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate a water coordination-proton transfer-water dissociation mechanism for the formation of PaO3+ in hydrous solutions. First, Pa(V) ion preferentially forms hydrated complexes with a coordination number of 10. Through hydrogen bonding, water molecules in the second coordination sphere easily capture two protons on the same coordinated H₂O ligand to form [PaO(H₂O)₉]3+. Water dissociation then occurs to generate the final [PaO(H₂O)₆]3+, which is the thermodynamic product of Pa(V) in hydrous solutions.

Abstract
Cethyl-2-Methylresorcinarene and aromatic N-oxides manifest host–guest chemistry by C–H⋯π interactions and halogen bonding; the C–I⋯−O–N+ halogen bond with 2-iodopyridine N-oxide is broken by the in-cavity C–I⋯π interactions.

Abstract
We report the study of the supramolecular assemblies formed by the incorporation of quaternary ammonium cations such as Me4N+ or Et4N+ into host-guest assemblies with p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene in the presence of a lanthanide(III) cation in water. We use microcalorimetry to characterize the formation of these supramolecular assemblies. We obtain a molecular description of these assemblies by performing molecular dynamics simulations over a very large period of time. The structures of these supramolecular complexes have been determined and discussed through specific interaction energy contributions. By combining MD simulations and 1NMR spectroscopy, we highlight a specific behavior of the supramolecular assembly with the Me4N+.

Abstract
The X-ray crystal structure of the p-sulfonatocalix[5]arene(5)(-) anion (1b) in the form of the dimeric hydrate Na(10)[p-sulfonatocalix[5]arene](2).33.5H(2)O (2) is reported. The reactions of 1b with a number of transition metal salts to form transition metal bridged bis(calixarene) inclusion complexes have also been investigated. The X-ray crystal structure of the "Co(H(2)O)(4)(2+)" bridged species Na(8)[Co(H(2)O)(4)(p-sulfonatocalix[5]arene)(2)].2CH(3)C(O)N(CH(3))(2).37H(2)O (3) which incorporates a "supercavity" large enough to encompass 2 N,N-dimethylacetamide (dma) guest molecules as well as ca. 15 water molecules and Na(+) ions is reported. Crystal data are as follows: for 2, monoclinic space group P2(1)/c, Z = 4, a = 22.0644(4), b = 19.1180(3), c = 27.7834(4) Å, beta = 91.780(1), V = 11714.1(5) Å(3); complex 3, orthorhombic space group Pnma, Z = 4, a = 22.2271(5), b = 30.1693(6), c = 18.8503(4) Å, V = 12640.6(5) Å(3).
