Abstract
This analysis was part of the Pain and Smoking Study (PASS), a randomized trial of a cognitive behavioral intervention (CBI) for Veterans with chronic pain who smoke. The objective of this study was to examine factors associated with participation in the walking component of the intervention. Demographics and clinical characteristics were obtained at baseline. Completion of two or more CBI counseling sessions was required to be included in analyses. Average daily step counts obtained via pedometer in the prior week were recorded in up to three telephone counseling sessions. Participants were then categorized as "sedentary" (≤ 4999 daily steps) or "not sedentary" (≥ 5000 daily steps). Multivariable logistic regression was used to model variance in activity categorization. Overall, 91.0% of participants were men, 70.5% were white, mean age was 58.4 years, mean BMI was 28.6, median pack years was 20.5, and 43.8% were depressed. Veterans reported moderate pain intensity (4.9/10) and pain interference (5.4/10). Pain locations included: lower extremity (67.4%), back (53.4%) and upper extremity (28.1%). Median daily steps were 2491 [IQR: 1720-3550] (sedentary) (n = 65), 7307 [IQR: 5952-8533] (not sedentary) (n = 24), and 3196 [IQR: 2237-5067] (overall) (n = 89). Veterans with older age (odds ratio (OR): 1.10, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.04, 1.17) and presence of LE pain (OR: 5.98, 95% CI: 1.82, 19.65) had increased odds of being "sedentary." Integrated smoking cessation and chronic pain self-management interventions that include a walking component may need to consider the impact of age and pain location on participation.Trial registration: The trial is registered at www.ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02971137). Abstract
User-friendly rehabilitation exercise devices can enhance health and quality of life through the convergence of information communication and medical technology. The development of rehabilitation exercise devices accessible to individuals with disabilities is important. We aimed to investigate the convenience, safety, and effectiveness of the developed rehabilitation exercise device for individuals with disabilities. A usability evaluation of the developed rehabilitation exercise device was conducted with five rehabilitation exercise experts and six athletes with disabilities using a questionnaire, the reliability of the revised questionnaire was r=0.87. Qualitative analysis was conducted using semistructured interviews following the testing of the upper limb rehabilitation exercise device by the two user groups. In the usability evaluation survey of the developed rehabilitation exercise device, the results were very positive, with an overall score of 4.25 out of 5. The highest score was assigned to the convenience of the device, followed by the effectiveness of the exercise and the safety of the device. The developed rehabilitation exercise device allows for three types of strength improvement exercises, including isometric, isokinetic, and isotonic exercises, all within a single device. Given that it is constructed with a wire system, it can be adapted to various exercise methods, depending on the type of disability. The device can be used by both nondisabled and disabled individuals, allowing for various exercise methods. The evaluation results indicate that the proposed device is highly versatile and practical.

Abstract
This study explores the effectiveness of community-based exercise programs for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) following hospital discharge. Given the rising incidence of SCI, particularly in South Korea, and the associated long-term disabilities, the necessity for comprehensive post-discharge rehabilitation is paramount. The study focuses on a pilot randomized multicenter double-blind controlled trial, targeting SCI patients who have completed inpatient rehabilitation and are living in the community. The primary aim is to evaluate the impact of structured exercise programs on physical fitness, functional capacity, and overall recovery. The research introduces the SpinalFit program, a community-based intervention designed to enhance muscle strength, cardiopulmonary endurance, and mobility through a combination of aerobic and resistance training. This program addresses the critical need for safe and effective rehabilitation options outside the hospital setting, utilizing circuit training with resistance bands and body-weight exercises tailored to each participant's capacity. The study also investigates barriers to physical activity in the community for SCI patients and the potential role of community exercise centers in bridging this gap. Preliminary findings from this pilot trial are expected to provide valuable insights into optimizing exercise regimens for SCI patients, informing future large-scale studies and contributing to improved post-discharge rehabilitation strategies.

Abstract
According to the World Health Organization, hundreds of individuals commence wheelchair use daily, often due to an injury such as spinal cord injury or through a condition such as a stroke. However, manual wheelchair users typically experience reductions in individual community mobility and participation. In this review, articles from 2017 to 2023 were reviewed to identify means of measuring community mobility and participation of manual wheelchair users, factors that can impact these aspects, and current rehabilitation techniques for improving them. The selected articles document current best practices utilizing self-surveys, in-clinic assessments, and remote tracking through GPS and accelerometer data, which rehabilitation specialists can apply to track their patients' community mobility and participation accurately. Furthermore, rehabilitation methods such as wheelchair training programs, brain-computer interface triggered functional electric stimulation therapy, and community-based rehabilitation programs show potential to improve the community mobility and participation of manual wheelchair users. Recommendations were made to highlight potential avenues for future research.
