PRE-CONCENTRATION AND DETERMINATION OF β-BLOCKERS USING CARBON NANOTUBE-ASSISTED PSEUDO-STIRBAR HOLLOW FIBER SOLID-/LIQUID-PHASE MICROEXTRACTION AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY WITH FLUORESCENCE DETECTION

Electrochemical screening of selected β-blockers at a polarized liquid-liquid interface

This paper describes the electrochemical behavior of five β-blockers at the polarized liquid-liquid interface formed between aqueous solution (sodium chloride solution or Britton-Robinson buffers) and bis(triphenylphosphoranylidene)ammonium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (BTPPATPBCl) dissolved in 1,2-dichloroethane (the organic phase). All measurements reported in this work were conducted using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The effects of the concentration of analytes, the pH of the aqueous phase, and applied electrochemical parameters on the analytical performance of the studied system are studied and discussed. The linear dynamic ranges (LDRs) of the studied β-blockers were in the range of 5-200 μmol L-1 and the lowest limit of detection (LOD) value was determined for pindolol (LOD = 1.96 μM μmol L-1). The highest LOD value was 4.96 μmol L-1 found for nebivolol. In addition, physicochemical parameters such as the formal Galvani potential difference (Δaqorgϕ), formal Gibbs free energies of the ion transfer reaction (ΔaqorgG') and partition coefficients (log P'aq/org) for all studied molecules were determined. The latter were compared and correlated with the available literature values of log Poctanol. Finally, a standard addition method was used to determine the concentration of nebivolol in pharmaceutical preparations using a platform based on the electrified liquid-liquid interface.

Utilizing a nanocomposite aerogel grafted with Fe3O4@GO for the extraction and determination of metoprolol in exhaled breath condensate

This article presents a solid-phase extraction method combined with a spectrofluorometric method for the extraction/pre-concentration and determination of metoprolol (MET) in exhaled breath condensate. The extraction sorbent is an agarose aerogel nanocomposite grafted with graphene oxide (GO) Fe3O4. The size and morphology of the nanosorbent were characterized via X-ray crystallography, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis. Factors affecting the extraction/determination of MET were optimized using the one-at-a-time method. Under optimized experimental conditions, the calibration graph was linear in the range of 0.005 to 2.0 μg mL-1 with a detection limit of 0.001 μg mL-1. The method was successfully applied for the determination of MET in biological samples taken from patients receiving MET.

Bismuth molybdate incorporated functionalized carbon nanofiber as an electrocatalytic tool for the pinpoint detection of organic pollutant in life samples

Herein, we fabricated a feasible and accurate sensing platform for the quantification of toxic organic pollutant 2-nitroaniline (2-NA) in water samples through electrocatalyst made up of bismuth molybdate (Bi₂MoO₆, BMO) functionalized carbon nanofiber (f-CNF) modified electrode. The preparation of BMO/f-CNF composite is of two methods, such as co-precipitation (C-BMO/f-CNF) and ultrasonication method (U-BMO/f-CNF). The physicochemical properties of the composites were characterized by XRD, FTIR, Raman, BET, FE-SEM, and HR-TEM techniques. At U-BMO/f-CNF, the charge transfer resistance was low (R_ct = 12.47 Ω) compared to C-BMO/f-CNF because nanosized U-BMO particles correctly aim at the defective sites of the f-CNF surface wall. Further, the electrocatalytic activity of C&U-BMO/f-CNF composites was examined by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry techniques (DPV) for the electrochemical detection of 2-nitroaniline (2-NA). The U-BMO/f-CNF/GCE shows a higher cathodic current, wide dynamic linear range of 0.01-168.01 µM, and superior electrocatalytic activity with a low detection limit (0.0437 µM) and good sensitivity (0.6857 μA μM^-1 cm^-2). The excellent selectivity nature of U-BMO/f-CNF/GCE was observed in the presence of various organic pollutants and a few toxic metal cations. The practical applicability such as stability, repeatability towards 2-NA outcomes with accepted results. Besides, the practical viability of as proposed U-BMO/f-CNF sensor was investigated in soil and lake water samples delivers good recovery results. Hence from these analyses, we conclude that U-BMO/f-CNF/GCE potential for the determination of hazardous environmental pollutant 2-NA.

Application of Hollow Fibre-Liquid Phase Microextraction Technique for Isolation and Pre-Concentration of Pharmaceuticals in Water

In this article, a comprehensive review of applications of the hollow fibre-liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) for the isolation and pre-concentration of pharmaceuticals in water samples is presented. HF-LPME is simple, affordable, selective, and sensitive with high enrichment factors of up to 27,000-fold reported for pharmaceutical analysis. Both configurations (two- and three-phase extraction systems) of HF-LPME have been applied in the extraction of pharmaceuticals from water, with the three-phase system being more prominent. When compared to most common sample preparation techniques such as solid phase extraction, HF-LPME is a greener analytical chemistry process due to reduced solvent consumption, miniaturization, and the ability to automate. However, the automation comes at an added cost related to instrumental set-up, but a reduced cost is associated with lower reagent consumption as well as shortened overall workload and time. Currently, many researchers are investigating ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents as environmentally friendly chemicals that could lead to full classification of HF-LPME as a green analytical procedure.
