Abstract
So far, little is known about the number and extent of physical illnesses in older patients in psychosomatic clinics. In the present study, the number and frequency of physical illness and its relationship to psychological symptoms were investigated in a group of 150 patients in the second half of life (50 each in the age groups 40-54, 55-69 and 70). Method: The CIRS (Cumulative Illness Rating Scale), an established third-party assessment method for physical illness on 14 scales, was used to record physical illness. The results show the greatest frequency and severity of physical illness in the oldest group. In addition, physical illness was found to be more strongly related to mental illness with increasing age. In the discussion, aspects of health care policy and therapy are addressed.

Abstract
In this functional MRI (fMRI) study on 82 healthy adults using the dot perspective task, inconsistency of perspectives was associated with a significant increase of the mean reaction time and number of errors both in Self and Other conditions. Unlike the Arrow (non-mentalizing), the Avatar (mentalizing) paradigm was characterized by the recruitment of parts of the mentalizing and salience networks. These data provide experimental evidence supporting the fMRI distinction between mentalizing and non-mentalizing stimuli. A widespread activation of classical theory of mind (ToM) areas but also of salience network and decision making areas was observed in the Other compared to Self-conditions. Compared to Self-Consistent, Self-Inconsistent trials were related to increased activation in the lateral occipital cortex, right supramarginal and angular gyrus as well as inferior, superior and middle frontal gyri. Compared to the Other-Consistent, Other-Inconsistent trials yielded strong activation in the lateral occipital cortex, precuneus and superior parietal lobule, middle and superior precentral gyri and left frontal pole. These findings reveal that altercentric interference relies on areas involved in self-other distinction, self-updating and central executive functions. In contrast, egocentric interference needs the activation of the mirror neuron system and deductive reasoning, much less related to pure ToM abilities.

Abstract
The need for assessment of social skills in clinical and neurotypical populations has led to the widespread, and still increasing use of the 'Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test' (RMET) developed more than two decades ago by Simon Baron-Cohen and colleagues for evaluation of social cognition in autism. By analyzing most recent clinical and brain imaging data, we illuminate a set of factors decisive for using the RMET. Converging evidence indicates: (i) In neurotypical individuals, RMET scores are tightly correlated with other social skills (empathy, emotional intelligence, and body language reading); (ii) The RMET assesses recognition of facial affect, but also heavily relies on receptive language skills, semantic knowledge, and memory; (iii) RMET performance is underwritten by the large-scale ensembles of neural networks well-outside the social brain; (iv) The RMET is limited in its capacity to differentiate between neuropsychiatric conditions as well as between stages and severity of a single disorder, though it reliably distinguishes individuals with altered social cognition or elevated pathological traits from neurotypical persons; (v) Merely gender (as a social construct) rather than neurobiological sex influences performance on the RMET; (vi) RMET scores do not substantially decline in healthy aging, and they are higher with higher education level, cognitive abilities, literacy, and mental well-being; (vii) Accuracy on the RMET, and engagement of the social brain, are greater when emotions are expressed and recognized by individuals with similar cultural/ethnic background. Further research is required to better inform usage of the RMET as a tool for swift and reliable examination of social cognition. In light of comparable visual input from the RMET images and faces covered by masks due to COVID-19 regulations, the analysis is of value for keeping efficient social interaction during the current pandemic, in particular, in professional settings related to social communication.

Abstract
Up to now, little is known about the group of older people treated in psychosomatic clinics, although the number of people in this age group who undergo treatment is increasing. In the study presented here, a sample of patients (age: 60 and above; n=83) from two psychosomatic clinics and a sample of clinically inconspicuous subjects (n=89) of the same age were examined. In addition to health variables, in which the group of older patients differed from the clinically inconspicuous as well as from younger patients, the connection between attachment and mentalization was examined more closely within the framework of two regression analyses. This showed that attachment-related anxiety and attachment-related avoidance were significantly more pronounced in the clinical group, but both were associated with different mentalization aspects. Based on these observations, some conclusions are drawn with regard to the treatment of older patients in psychosomatic clinics.
