Abstract
INTRODUCTION Instrumental activities of daily living (iADLs) increasingly involve technology (e.g., making payments online, texting). The current study examined the applicability and diagnostic accuracy of technology-based iADLs in those evaluated for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). METHODS A total of 264 care partners of persons undergoing comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluations completed the Functional Activities Questionnaire and 11 technology-based iADL items. RESULTS Technology-based iADLs applied to more than 80% of patients. Average dependence on technology-based items was overall less than for traditional iADLs. The addition of technology-based items to traditional iADL items slightly improved the ability to identify individuals with dementia. When considered separately, technology-based iADL items demonstrated comparable ability to distinguish between diagnostic stages. DISCUSSION Technology use is common in older adults with ADRD for a range of daily activities. Accounting for technology use increases the content validity of existing iADL measures for the modern context and yields comparable diagnostic accuracy. Highlights Technology use is often integral to daily activity performance for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD).Daily technologies, such as smartphones, were used frequently by those with ADRD.Many individuals were less dependent on technology activities than traditional activities.Adding technology questions slightly increased diagnostic accuracy for detecting dementia.

Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore unpaid carers' experiences of supporting people with dementia to use social media.Methods: Unpaid carers (n = 234) responded to an online survey about their attitudes towards people with dementia using social media and any experiences supporting this usage. Responses to closed questions were analysed using frequency analysis; qualitative data were analysed thematically.Results: Fifty-five carers (23.5%) cared for someone with dementia who used social media. Thematic analysis produced four themes: (1) carers as social media navigators; (2) social media supports care; (3) carers as social media guardians; and (4) labour-intensive work. Carers valued the social connectivity and stimulation social media provided but remained vigilant about online safety. They carefully managed the online experiences of people with dementia, balancing perceived benefits with safety, security, and caring demands.Conclusions: These findings shed light on the complexities of caring in the digital age. Many carers are supporting people with dementia in using social media, but there is little guidance on how best to do this. As older adults continue to embrace social media, carers, support organisations, and policymakers must adapt and work with technology developers to ensure safe and supportive online experiences.

Abstract
This qualitative study aimed to understand men's social connectedness in later life in Portugal focusing on their perceptions, obstacles, strategies, and impact on well-being. The sample included 104 older Portuguese men over 65 years of age (Mage = 70.76 years). The qualitative data were the direct transcriptions of the answers given by participants to the electronic interview using thematic analysis. Findings revealed six overarching themes encompassing 18 subcategories: definitions of social connectedness (social support, community identity, mental health promotion, use of community structures), difficulties/obstacles in maintaining social connectedness (ageism, lack of initiative, physical limitations, psychological traits, resources), strategies/actions or resources to establish social connections (use of technology, use of community groups, leisure and sport activities, church/religion), negative impact of difficulties in establishing relevant social connections (mental health, physical health, relationships), positive actions from being socially connected (positive prescriptions to promote social connectedness), and concerns from being socially disconnected (health risks). These findings indicate that the lack of social connectedness creates social vulnerability in later life, and social support is needed to ensure safer aging among older men.
