Leader-member exchange and organisational citizenship behaviour: The mediating and moderating effects of role ambiguity

Shaping teachers' organizational citizenship behavior through self-efficacy and trust in colleagues: moderating role of collective efficacy

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE

The aims of this study are: (1) to examine the mediating effect of teacher self-efficacy on the relationship between trust in colleagues and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB); and (2) to evaluate the moderating effect of collective efficacy on the relationships between teachers' self-efficacy and OCB, as well as between trust in colleagues and OCB.

DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH

The cross-sectional data were based on 408 sets of usable questionnaires collected from teachers who worked in government schools in Malaysia. The partial least square structural equation modeling technique was used to test the model and hypotheses.

FINDINGS

The results indicate that trust in colleagues is positively related to organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and teacher self-efficacy. Additionally, teacher self-efficacy and OCB are also positively related. Furthermore, the relationship between trust in colleagues and OCB is partially mediated by teacher self-efficacy. Moreover, collective efficacy significantly moderates the path between teacher self-efficacy and OCB but not between trust in colleagues and OCB.

ORIGINALITY/VALUE

Despite earlier studies examining the relationship between trust, teacher self-efficacy, and OCB, little is known about the mediating mechanism of teacher self-efficacy and the moderating effect of collective efficacy. Thus, this present study makes significant contributions in both theoretical and practical aspects.

The Relationship Between K-Workers' Leader-Member Exchange, Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Task Performance-Evidence From Chinese Hospitals

Aiming to reduce the difficulty of managing and motivating knowledge workers (k-workers), and promote the psychological well-being of them in Chinese hospitals, this study examines how k-workers’ leader–member exchange (LMX) influences their task performance and the mediation effect of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Through a self-administered survey, valid questionnaires were collected from 384 k-workers in Chinese hospitals, and partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed for data analysis. The findings show that LMX is positively related to OCB and task performance, and that OCB mediates the relationship between LMX and task performance. This research has theoretical implications and also provides practical suggestions on how to manage, motivate, and inspire k-workers, and promote the psychological well-being of them, and finally enhance the organizational performance in Chinese hospitals.

Authentic leadership and organizational citizenship behaviour: the role of psychological capital

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the direct and indirect effects of authentic leadership on organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) with the presence of psychological capital as a mediating factor.

Design/methodology/approach

This quantitative research was conducted among 396 front-line employees in six public sector organizations in Sri Lanka. A survey method was employed to collect the data.

Findings

It was found that psychological capital partially mediates the relationship between authentic leadership and OCB. In other words, the relationship between authentic leadership and OCB is both direct and indirect, mediated though psychological capital.

Research limitations/implications

The authenticity of leaders' conduct, psychological capabilities and the outcomes of the performance, are rooted in and reinforced by the culture of the particular organization; hence, the findings should be interpreted cautiously.

Practical implications

The framework of the present study provides a guideline to the top management of the public sector in Sri Lanka to design leadership programs that can develop authentic leaders.

Originality/value

The direct and indirect relationships established between authentic leadership and psychological capital and OCB signifies the critical importance of authentic leadership in the development of psychological capital and OCB among employees.

How Can Travel Agencies Create Sustainable Competitive Advantages? Perspective on Employee Role Stress and Initiative Behavior

In this study, we aimed to explore the importance of the roles of stress and organizational citizenship behavior toward market orientation in travel agencies from the perspective of organizational culture, and to provide practical suggestions for travel agencies’ human resources. We focused on investigating the relationship among market orientation, competitor orientation, and inter-functional coordination, role stress, conflict, ambiguity, and inter-enterprise organizational citizenship behavior. Under an enterprise strategy, the employee behavior model uses role stress and organizational citizenship behavior. Partial least squares (PLS) modelling was used to investigate the hypotheses in this research. We found that travel agency employees who focus on market-oriented strategy are able to reduce stress and promote the growth of organizational citizenship behavior within the enterprise. The results showed that reducing role ambiguity has no significant impact on organizational citizenship behavior. Adopting an accurate management strategy will reduce employee role stress and promote organizational citizenship behavior, thereby constructing a positive organizational culture and continuously creating competitive advantages, providing a strategy for the sustainable development of travel agencies.
