Introduction: Toxoplasma infection was higher in infertile couples than fertile couples, probably due to anti-sperm antibodies that were higher in couples with Toxoplasmosis. Investigations of T. gondii infections in men with infertility showed that among 100 cases of men's infertility, 36% were serologically positive for Toxoplasma-IgG and IgM. It has been concluded that T. gondii can affect men's fertility and result in infertility. Materials and Methods: Selective infertile males were asked about days of sexual abstinence. Seminal fluid samples were collected following a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 7 days from abstinence. Every patient was given a clean, wide mouth, sterile, dry, graduated plastic and warm disposable container. The samples were obtained by masturbation in a private room near the semen analysis lab to reduce seminal exposure to temperature fluctuations and control the time from collection to analysis. Results: For the ND1 gene, samples of 8 different fertility groups have been sequenced. These sequences have been compared to reference sequences taken from the NCBI database. Several mutations in various nucleotide positions of the ND1 regions have been detected in samples from multiple groups. The base substitution has been positioned on the nucleotides (nts) 3480, 3567, 3591, 3693, and 4216. The T to C evolution was notorious at nt 3480 in ND1 genes. Effects of Toxoplasma gondii on Levels of Interleukin-5 in Parkinson's Patients

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a psychiatric neurological infection of the focal sensory system and is accepted as a multifactorial disease. Chronic Toxoplasmosis is sometimes associated with the proliferation of bradyzoites in the nervous system. The measurement of interleukin-5 (IL-5) as an inflammatory mediator in patients with PD and Toxoplasmosis infection may be helpful in determining the correlation between these diseases. In the present study, 80 examples were collected, including 35 patients diagnosed with idiopathic PD and 45 samples from healthy people from Najaf, Babylon, and Baghdad provinces, Iraq. After measuring the immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody of Toxoplasma gondii, the level of IL-5 was evaluated in different groups. Serological examination showed that the IgG antibody of Toxoplasmosis increased (P<0.05) in people with PD (65.71%). Serum levels of IL-5 significantly decreased in people with PD. It is noteworthy that comparing serum levels of IL-5 between two groups of people with and without chronic Toxoplasmosis revealed that there was a significant decrease (P<0.05) in a concentration of serum IL-5 in individuals with chronic Toxoplasmosis. The current study confirmed the conceivable association between T. gondii and PD, and further research is recommended to explain the association between PD and Toxoplasmosis.

All the elements increasing the risk of predation by the definitive host are then favourable to the parasite. Numerous experimental animal model studies have shown that T. gondii infection is associated with predatory risk behaviours such as an attraction of infected mice to cat urine. Infection with the parasite is associated with a demethylation of the promoters of certain genes in the cerebral amygdala of the intermediate hosts, modifying dopaminergic circuits associated with fear. Similarly, T. gondii has been linked to behavioural changes in humans. Toxoplasma infection is classically associated with the frequency of schizophrenia, suicide attempts or "road rage." A more recent study shows that toxoplasma infection prevalence was a consistent, positive predictor of entrepreneurial activity. Fear of failure would be less important in infected individuals, who are more willing than others to start their own business. These elements shed interesting light on behaviours and their possible relationship with toxoplasmosis, which is generally considered benign in adults.

Accelerating the sustainable development goals through microbiology: some efforts and opportunities

Modernization has thrown humanity and other forms of life on our planet into a ditch of problems. Poverty, climate change, injustice and environmental degradation are a few of the shared global problems. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. The SDGs are well structured to address the global challenges we face including poverty, inequalities, hunger, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. Five years into the implementation, the SDGs have been driven mainly by international donors and 'professional' international development organizations. The world is left with 10 years to achieve these ambitious goals and targets. Various reviews show that little has been achieved overall, and the SDGs will not be a reality if a new strategy is not in place to bring inclusion. Microbiology, the scientific discipline of microbes, their effects and practical uses has insightful influence on our day-to-day living. We present how microbiology and microbiologists could increase the scorecard and accelerate these global goals. Microbiology has a direct link to achieving SDGs addressing food security, health and wellbeing, clean energy, environmental degradation and climate change. A non-classical growing relationship exists between microbiology and other SDGs such as peace, justice, gender equality, decent work and economic growth. The pledge of 'Leave No One Behind' will fast track progress and microbiology is in a better position to make this work.
