Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue is a particularly debilitating symptom for people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Although personality traits and MS have been studied, interoception and emotional susceptibility and their links to fatigue have not yet been explored. METHODS Study participants provided demographic information and completed standardized patient-reported outcomes of walking function, physical activity, subjective fatigue, interoceptive awareness, and emotional susceptibility. A subset of participants participated in semistructured interviews discussing fatigue, body sensations, emotions, and their effects on exercise. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple regression. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS Mean ± SD Fatigue Severity Scale scores (5.0 ± 1.3) indicated that fatigue was a problematic symptom. Mean ± SD Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness, Version 2 (2.8 ± 0.6) and Emotional Susceptibility Scale (3.0 ± 1.0) scores indicated lower levels of interoceptive awareness and emotional susceptibility. Quantitative data indicated no relationship between fatigue and interoceptive awareness (β = -0.20; P = .88) and emotional susceptibility (β = 0.03; P = .83), and neither were these related to physical activity (β = -0.07; P = .64). Qualitative themes indicated strong fatigue experiences involving the whole body and individual limbs, anger and frustration, and effects on physical activity. CONCLUSIONS Physically active people with MS report strong sensations of fatigue closely linked to frustration and helplessness. There was agreement between qualitative and quantitative assessments of fatigue but dissonance regarding interoceptive awareness and physical activity. The practice of clinicians, particularly those involved with facilitating or planning physical activity for persons with MS, would benefit from these findings about fatigue.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical effect of nutritional diet therapy on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS One hundred pregnant women with GDM who were admitted to Ji'nan Central Hospital were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into an observation group (received individualized nutrition nursing, n=50) and a control group (received routine nursing, n=50). RESULTS The total incidence of postpartum complications in the control group was 28.00%, which was significantly higher than 8.00% in the observation group (χ2=4.500, P=0.034). After nursing, the amniotic fluid index in the observation group increased significantly as compared with the control group (P<0.001). The nursing satisfaction rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group. The difference was statistically significant (t=14.324, P<0.001). The health condition of newborns in the observation group was better than that in the control group (χ2=4.762, P=0.029). After intervention, the level of blood glucose of women in the observation group was better than that of the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION Nutritional diet therapy for pregnant women with GDM can help to reduce complications, control blood sugar, and improve the neonatal outcome. It is also conducive to the postpartum rehabilitation of pregnant women. It is worthy of clinical application and promotion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the effect of high-quality nursing service in the delivery room on puerperae and newborns. METHODS Clinical data of 100 puerperae who came to our hospital for delivery were analyzed in this retrospective study. The puerperae were divided into an observation group (50 cases) and a control group (50 cases) according to the nursing model they received. The observation group was given high-quality nursing, and the control group was given routine nursing. The levels of blood glucose and blood pressure, scores of Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), delivery mode, nursing satisfaction and perinatal health status were recorded and compared. RESULTS After childbirth, the SAS and SDS scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (both P<0.05). The amniotic fluid index of the observation group was increased significantly (P<0.001). The total nursing satisfaction of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (t=14.324, P<0.001). The health status of neonates in the observation group was better than that in the control group (χ2=4.762, P=0.029). After intervention, the levels of blood glucose and blood pressure in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (both P<0.05). CONCLUSION High-quality nursing for puerperae in the delivery room improves their negative psychological emotions, which is of significance for delivery and nursing work.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women. It is associated with multiple symptoms in both patients and caregivers, such as stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and fatigue. Stress appears to promote cancer progression via activation of the sympathetic nervous system releasing epinephrine and norepinephrine as well as activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis releasing cortisol. These stress hormones have been shown to promote the proliferation of cancer cells. This review focuses on stress-reducing strategies which may decrease cancer progression by abrogating these pathways, with a main focus on the β-adrenergic signaling pathway. Patients utilize both non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic strategies to reduce stress. Non-pharmacologic stress-reduction strategies include complementary and alternative medicine techniques, such as meditation, yoga, acupuncture, exercise, use of natural products, support groups and psychology counseling, herbal compounds, and multivitamins. Pharmacologic strategies include abrogating the β2-adrenergic receptor signaling pathway to antagonize epinephrine and norepinephrine action on tumor and immune cells. β-Blocker drugs may play a role in weakening the pro-migratory and pro-metastatic effects induced by stress hormones in cancer and strengthening the anti-tumor immune response. Preclinical models have shown that non-selective β1/2-blocker use is associated with a decrease in tumor growth and metastases and clinical studies have suggested their positive impact on decreasing breast cancer recurrence and mortality. Thus, non-pharmacological approaches, along with pharmacological therapies part of clinical trials are available to cancer patients to reduce stress, and have promise to break the cycle of cancer and stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Post-exertional malaise (PEM) is often considered a cardinal symptom of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). There is no gold standard diagnostic method for CFS, however, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Fukuda case definition does not require PEM. Research has identified differences in symptom burden between patients according to PEM, but whether it is associated with psychological distress has not been investigated. METHODS The CDC CFS Inventory, Fatigue Symptom Inventory, Profile of Mood States, Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, and subscales of the Sickness Impact Profile were administered to 261 patients diagnosed with the Fukuda criteria. PEM status (loPEM/hiPEM) was determined via self-reported post-exertional fatigue severity. Analyses of covariance (ANCOVA), controlling for age and gender, assessed cross-sectional group differences, and cross-sectional linear regressions using the continuous PEM severity predictor paralleled these analyses. RESULTS hiPEM patients reported greater symptom intensity, frequency, and interference than loPEM counterparts (p's < .001). hiPEM patients also reported greater social disruption, depressive symptoms, and mood disturbance (p's ≤ .011). Groups did not differ in recent negative life experiences, perceived stress, or demographic variables. The results of regression analyses mirrored those of ANCOVAs. CONCLUSION This study replicates the association between PEM and symptom burden and additionally associates PEM with psychological distress; psychological distress could, however, be a consequence of symptom burden. Differences between hiPEM and loPEM CFS patients highlight the heterogeneity of diagnoses resulting from the Fukuda criteria. It is also possible that PEM identifies particularly distressed patients for whom psychological intervention would be most beneficial.

Abstract
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction practices increase the capacity for concentration and attention, and these practices are particularly effective for people with breast cancer. To analyze the effects of the application of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on breast cancer symptoms. Systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out. To find suitable studies, the PubMed/ MEDLINE database was searched using the keywords "breast cancer" and "Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction". Studies included were published between 2013 and 2017, written in English and showed methodological quality through the PEDro scale (score greater than 3). They also presented empirical evidence, had an experimental study design (randomized or non-randomized), and had full text available. For the meta-analysis, we used a random-effects model, with standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals. Seven studies were included, one non-randomized and containing only an intervention group of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and six randomized including samples of two or three groups. The non-randomized study showed 6 points on the PEDro scale, the randomized studies of two groups 6 to 7 points and studies with three groups showed 7 points. In the meta-analysis of the two randomized studies, the results, although not significant, revealed a moderate effect for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on the outcome of fatigue, with a mean difference of -0.42 (95%CI -0.92- -0.07; p=0.09). Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction seems to be a promising alternative for treatment of this disease's symptoms.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer-related fatigue is a common complaint during cancer treatment and is often associated with cognitive impairment. This study examined cognitive deficits that were associated with fatigue symptoms during external-beam radiation therapy (EBRT) in men with localized prostate cancer. METHODS A total of 36 participants were enrolled and followed up at baseline, 24 h, 7 days, 14 days after EBRT initiation, at midpoint, and at completion of EBRT. Fatigue was measured by self-report using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - Fatigue (FACT-F), and cognitive impairment by the Computer Assessment of Mild Cognitive Impairment (CAMCI®). RESULTS Subjects with increased fatigue during EBRT reported a significant decline in cognitive function and had difficulties with CAMCI®'s route finding and item recall tasks during EBRT. Increased fatigue during EBRT was associated with perceived cognitive difficulties in executive function and recognition memory, but not with attention or verbal memory. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that there might be specific cognitive domains that are associated with increased fatigue during EBRT. These findings will provide important information for targeting specific cognitive domains using pharmacotherapy or behavioral interventions. CAMCI® is a valuable tool for psycho social providers to detect subtle cognitive impairment in fatigued cancer patients in a clinical setting.

Abstract
Fatigue is one of the most common and debilitating side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, and yet its etiology remains elusive. The goal of this study is to understand the role of chronic inflammation in fatigue following repeated stress from radiotherapy. Fatigue and non-fatigue categories were assessed using ≥ 3-point change in Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Fatigue questionnaire (FACT-F) administered to participants at baseline/before radiotherapy and one year post-radiotherapy. Whole genome microarray and cytokine multiplex panel were used to examine fatigue-related transcriptome and serum cytokine changes, respectively. The study included 86 subjects (discovery phase n = 40, validation phase n = 46). The sample in the discovery phase included men with prostate cancer scheduled to receive external-beam radiotherapy. A panel of 48 cytokines were measured and the significantly changed cytokine found in the discovery phase was validated using sera from a separate cohort of men two years after completing radiotherapy for prostate cancer at a different institution. Effects of the significantly changed cytokine on cell viability was quantified using the MTT assay. During the discovery phase, tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) and TRAIL decoy receptor, TNFRSF10C (TRAIL-R3), were significantly upregulated in fatigued (≥3-point decrease from baseline to 1yr-post radiotherapy) subjects (n = 15). In the validation phase, TRAIL correlated with fatigue scores 2yrs post-radiotherapy. TRAIL caused selective cytotoxicity in neuronal cells, but not in microglial and muscle cells, in vitro. Late-onset inflammation directed by TRAIL may play a role in fatigue pathogenesis post-repeated stress from irradiation.
