Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the surface roughness (SR) and color changes of single-shade and nanohybrid resin-based restorative materials (RBC) after immersion in liquids at different pH values. For RBCs, a total of 120 specimens, 30 for each material, were prepared using 10 mm diameter and 2 mm thick molds. For flowable bulk fill RBC, a total of 40 specimens, 10 for each material, were prepared using 10 mm diameter and 4 mm thick molds (n = 10). After initial color and SR measurements, samples were stored in the liquids for 14 days and all of the measurements were repeated on 14th days. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy analyzes were performed in all groups. When SR results are examined; among all liquids, the highest SR value was observed in the Carisma Diamond One (CDO) group, while the lowest SR value was observed in the Omnichroma Flow Bulk (OMF) group (p < .05). When the color changes (ΔE) results are examined; it was observed that CDO group had highest color change and OMF group had the lowest values. It has been observed that among the liquids, the liquids that affect the ΔE values of the materials the most are coffee and cola. When the ΔE values of the subgroups of the materials were examined, there was a statistically significant difference in all subgroups of RBCs (p < .05). While acidic liquids increased the SR of RBCs, coffee more affected the color change of RBCs. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Clinicians should keep in mind that the RBCs tested may change their surface properties and colors when exposed to various liquids. People who have RBCs should pay attention to the consumption of acidic and highly pigmented liquids.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate the effect of staining beverages on the color-changing of resin-infiltrated artificial white spot lesions (WSLs). METHODS Thirty-five artificial WSLs were created by pH cycling on flat bovine teeth specimens. The WSLs were treated with resin infiltration and were divided into five groups based on staining beverages: artificial saliva, coffee, wine, green tea, and Coca-Cola. These specimens were subjected to a 28-day exposure to the respective beverages. Color stability was assessed using a spectrophotometer at different time points: baseline, after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days of exposure, and repolishing. The color difference (∆E) between each time point and the baseline was calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way measures ANOVA with a significance level of p = 0.05. RESULTS All resin-infiltrated specimens exposed to staining beverages for 7 days exhibited more significant color changes than those exposed to artificial saliva. The color change patterns varied based on the type of beverage. The color alterations intensified with extended immersion in the wine and Coca-Cola groups, while there were no significant differences in the color of specimens after 28 days of immersion in the coffee and green tea groups. However, after cleaning with pumice powder, all specimens showed significantly reduced color changes compared to those observed after 28 days of immersion, except those immersed in coffee. CONCLUSIONS Exposure of resin-infiltrated bovine tooth specimens to staining beverages resulted in a significant color alteration as the immersion time increased. However, the staining effect could be minimized by cleaning with pumice powder, except for the coffee group. CLINICAL RELEVANCE After resin infiltration treatment, patients should be advised to minimize the consumption of colored beverages to prevent staining that could impact esthetic appearance.

Abstract
PURPOSE The main aim of the present study was to carry out a scoping review on the differences in degree of conversion of monomers regarding several types resin cements, indirect restorative materials, and light-curing procedures used in dentistry. METHOD A bibliographic review was performed on PubMed using the following search items: "degree of conversion" OR "filler" AND "resin cement" OR "inorganic cement" AND "organic" OR "radiopacity" OR "refractive" OR "transmittance" OR "type" AND "resin composite." The search involved articles published in English language within the last thirteen years. A research question has been formulated following the PICO approach as follow: "How different is the degree of conversion of monomers comparing several types of resin-matrix cements?". RESULTS Within the 15 selected studies, 8 studies reported a high degree of conversion (DC) of the organic matrix ranging from 70 up to 90% while 7 studies showed lower DC values. Dual-cured resin-matrix cements revealed the highest mean values of DC, flexural strength, and hardness when compared with light- and self-polymerized ones. DC mean values of resin-matrix cements light-cured through a ceramic veneer with 0.4 mm thickness were higher (~ 83%) than those recorded for resin-matrix cements light-cured through a thicker ceramic layer of 1.5 mm (~ 77%). CONCLUSIONS The highest percentage of degree of conversion of monomers was reported for dual-cured resin-matrix cements and therefore both chemical and light-induced pathways promoted an enhanced polymerization of the material. Similar degree of conversion of the same resin-matrix cement were recorded when the prosthetic structure showed a low thickness. On thick prosthetic structures, translucent materials are required to allow the light transmission achieving the resin-matrix cement. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The chemical composition of resin-matrix cements and the light-curing mode can affect the polymerization of the organic matrix. Thus, physical properties of the materials can vary leading to early clinical failures at restorative interfaces. Thus, the analysis of the polymerization pathways of resin-matrix cements is significantly beneficial for the clinical performance of the restorative interfaces.

Abstract
Dental composites are gaining great popularity in restorative dentistry because of their aesthetic appeal and capacity to replicate the natural color of teeth. Nevertheless, their lifespan and durability rely on various factors, such as the polishing technique and the environmental conditions they are exposed to. The study aimed to assess the influence of the method of final polishing of dental composite on the surface roughness and microhardness of materials also considering the environment of different pHs. Disc-shaped samples (5 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness) have been prepared for microhardness and roughness tests from two dental composites: A2 Clearfil Majesty ES 2 Classic and A2D Clearfil Majesty Premium. One-third of samples were polished with polishing discs, OptiDisc, another one-third of samples were polished with Eve Diacomp Twist rubbers and polishing brush with diamond particles, and rest of the samples were stored without any polishing (the control group). Tested materials were incubated in distilled water or acidic buffer (pH = 2) for 3 weeks at a temperature of 37 °C. No statistically significant differences were found for roughness for the two materials tested after incubation in liquids. A decrease in Vicker microhardness was found for Clearfil Majesty ES 2 Classic after soaking in a low pH liquid, and no such relationship was found for Clearfil Majesty Premium. The improved resistance of these materials to the negative oral environment may result in the longer survival of composite restorations in patients with poor diet or diseases, causing a decrease in oral pH.

Abstract
Background A single-shade resin composite is a new type of resin composite that was introduced in 2019. There is not much data regarding the water sorption (Wsp) and water solubility (Wsl) of this type of resin composite. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate Wsp and Wsl and their effects on the surface roughness of a single-shade nano-hybrid resin composite in comparison with a conventional nano-hybrid resin composite in accordance with ISO 4049:2019 (Dentistry - Polymer-based Restorative Materials). Material and methods An in vitro study was performed to investigate the Wsp and Wsl of a single-shade supra-nano-hybrid composite (Omnichroma) and a conventional nano-hybrid composite (Filtek™ Z250 XT) in accordance with ISO 4049:2019. Five disks were prepared of each material with dimensions of 15 ± 1 mm in diameter and 1 ± 0.1 mm in thickness, as per ISO 4049:2019. The results were calculated according to the ISO equations for Wsp and Wsl in µg/mm3. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to analyze the surface roughness (Ra) of test specimens. Results The findings showed that the values of Wsl and Wsp of both materials are comparable and revealed no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). The AFM images showed a higher Ra post-solubility testing, and the statistical analysis indicated a significant difference for both materials. Conclusions The study concluded that the single-shade resin composite (Omnichroma) and the conventional nano-hybrid composite (Filtek™ Z250 XT) are following the requirements of ISO 4049:2019. The AFM analysis indicated that resin composite surfaces are significantly affected when exposed to water for a prolonged period of time. However, the Ra variations of Filtek™ Z250 XT were higher than Omnichroma specimens. These results indicate that resin composite surfaces can be significantly impacted by prolonged water exposure. This knowledge is critical for enhancing the long-term clinical performance and durability of these dental restorative materials.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate in vitro the degree of surface smoothness provided by two different polishing techniques and the effect of acid challenge on the alteration of surface roughness (Ra), microhardness (Knoop), and color (ΔE00) of three nanoparticulate composites, simulating 1 year of exposure to hydrochloric acid (HCl). Eighty specimens for each composite were divided into four groups (n = 240), being control without polishing, control with wear, WPC (wear + polishing with Cosmedent Kit), and WPB (wear + BisCover LV liquid polish). Repeated measures ANOVA was applied for Ra and Knoop Microhardness. For the color (ΔE) three-way ANOVA was applied. In cases of statistically significant the Tukey posttest was applied (α = 0.05). Both types of polishing tested resulted in a surface smoothness below the critical value established by the studies (Ra ≥ 0.2 μm), even after immersion. The microhardness of all composite resins decreased after the challenges. The specimens immersed in HCl showed a lower microhardness (42.2 Kgf/mm2) when compared to the specimens immersed in artificial saliva (44.7 Kgf/mm2). Regarding the color change, the composites presented values compatible with clinical acceptability, with a statistically significant difference only between the control group and the other types of polishing for the Z350 XT resin (ΔE00 = 3.78). It was concluded that both mechanical and chemical polishing produced a satisfactory surface smoothness, even after immersions in artificial saliva and HCl. The microhardness of the composites was affected by the challenges and the composites tested were within clinical acceptability with regard to color change.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the consumption of low pH dietary supplements on the color stability of different resin composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three different restorative materials were used for this in vitro study: Filtek One Bulk-Fill (FOB), Filtek Z550 (Z550), and Fill-Up (FUP). Samples fabricated from each composite group were divided into four subgroups, and color measurements were performed at baseline. The control subgroup was stored in distilled water, and the other three subgroups were immersed in acidic dietary supplement solutions (Redoxon, Supradyn, and Voonka Collagen Shake) for 2 minutes daily for 28 days. Color measurements were obtained using a digital spectrophotometer. Color change values (ΔE1) were calculated after each color measurement. Next, all samples were immersed in a coffee solution for 7 days and repeat color measurements were taken to determine ΔE2 values. The study groups were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test (α =0.05). RESULTS ΔE1 values were significantly different among the groups (P < 0.05). While Voonka Collagen Shake produced the greatest discoloration in FOB (1.67 ± 1.08) and Filtek Z550 (3.59 ± 1.90) materials, Fill-Up showed the highest discoloration (3.14 ± 0.37) with Supradyn. Analysis of ΔE2 values demonstrated a significant difference only for the Filtek Z550-Redoxon group versus the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Acidic dietary supplements not only produce color alterations in resin composites but also reduce the staining resistance of the composite further, depending on the type of composite and dietary supplement. Consumption of staining food after taking Redoxon effervescent tablets produces greater discoloration in Filtek Z550 restorations compared with other restorative materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Zein-coated magnesium oxide nanoparticles (zMgO NPs) demonstrate a potent antimicrobial effect, endorsing it as a compelling additive to dental materials formulations for oral health care advances. However, currently there is no data on the imprint of zMgO NPs on the color permanence of dental composites. The objective of this study is to evaluate the color stability of different types of composite enhanced with antimicrobial zein-coated magnesium oxide nanoparticles (zMgO NPs) of different shapes before and after thermocycling. METHODS Two hundred composite samples were divided into four groups: Gp1: Tetric N-Flow with zMgO nanowires, Gp2: Tetric N-Flow with zMgO nanospheres, Gp3: Tetric N-Ceram with zMgO nanowires; Gp4: Tetric N-Ceram with zMgO nanospheres. Each group was subdivided into 5 subgroups (n = 10) with concentrations of zMgO NPs 0%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 1% and 2%. The characterization of the modified composite containing the zMgO was done via X-ray Diffraction, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Colorimetric evaluation was performed through spectrophotometry with a white background. Samples underwent color assessment using a spectrophotometer, followed by thermocycling, and then another color assessment. RESULTS FESEM analysis showed a uniform distribution of the zMgO nanoparticles in the composite and FTIR illustrated no change in the spectra. However, the XRD spectra exhibited an amorphous pattern in the composite enhanced with zMgO NPs. There was no compelling discrepancy in color variation ΔE among the different groups before and after thermocycling (p > 0.05). A statistically notable variation in ΔL was found amid the control and N-Flow and N-Ceram with 2% zMgO nanospheres before and after thermocycling respectively (p < 0.05). While after thermocycling, there was a statistically significant difference in Δa in N-Flow and N-Ceram wires amid the control and the different groups (p < 0.05). Additionally, after thermocycling there was a statistically significant difference in Δb in N-Flow and N-Ceram wires between the control and the different groups (p < 0.05). The Tukey test exhibited no variation among the groups with different zMgO concentrations (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Enhancing N-Flow and N-Ceram composite with antimicrobial zMgO nanowires and nanospheres did not alter the total color stability of the materials before and after thermocycling.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of traditional and whitening toothpastes on the color and surface roughness of different composite resin materials. METHODS Eighty disc-shaped samples were prepared for each of the following composite resins: nano-hybrid (Filtek Ultimate Universal; 3 M/ESPE, Saint Paul, USA), micro-hybrid (Charisma Smart; Kulzer, Hanau, Germany) and supra-nano-filled (Omnichroma; Tokuyama, Tokyo, Japan). Each composite-resin sample was randomly divided into the following four subgroups (n = 20 per group): Group 1, control; Group 2, traditional toothpaste (Colgate Total 12; Colgate Palmolive, New York, USA); Group 3, peroxide-based toothpaste (Colgate Optic White; Colgate-Palmolive, New York, USA); and Group 4, blue covarine-based toothpaste (Meridol Gentle White; CP-GABA, Hamburg, Germany). The samples for the toothpaste subgroups were immersed in a coffee solution for 10 min and washed twice a day before each brushing cycle. The specimens were brushed for 30 days. Color analyses were performed using a spectrophotometer (SpectroShade Micro, MHT, Italy). Surface roughness analyses were conducted using a profilometer (Surftest SJ-210 Mitutoyo, Tokyo, Japon). The color and surface roughness analyses were performed at baseline and 1, 7 and 30 days after each treatment. Furthermore, surface topography analysis was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (FEG 250-FeiQuanta, the Netherlands). The data were analysed with a three-way robust ANOVA and Bonferroni post-hoc correction (p < 0.05). RESULTS The smallest color change was observed for the micro-hybrid composite resin, and the greatest color change was observed for the nano-hybrid composite resin. Based on the tested composite resin samples, the greatest color change was obtained after using blue covarine-based toothpaste, while the smallest color change was observed after using peroxide-based toothpaste. Moreover, the supra-nano-filled composite resin samples exhibited the lowest roughness values (robust ANOVA test, p < 0.001). There was no statistically significant difference between the mean values of roughness for the composite, group and time interaction (p = 0.937). CONCLUSION Charisma Smart composite resin exhibited significantly lower staining than all the other composite resins tested after using all toothpastes included in the study. Further laboratory and clinical studies are needed to fully understand the long-term effectiveness of whitening toothpaste on composite resin materials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate the effect of different experimental staining procedures on color stability and translucency of a nano-hybrid resin-based composite (RBC). METHODS Forty-eight cylindrical-shaped specimens (10 × 2 mm) were prepared with a nano-hybrid RBC (Clearfil Majesty ES-2) and randomly divided in four groups according to the experimental staining procedure: G1) static immersion in a staining solution (coffee) (44 ± 1 °C); G2) staining cycling between coffee (44 ± 1°C) and distilled water (37 ± 1°C) with an experimental staining machine based on Arduino, an Open Source hardware development platform; G3) staining cycles as in G2 + brushing with a low abrasive toothpaste (Relative Dentin Abrasion RDA = 30) (Elmex Sensitive Professional); G4) staining cycles as in G3, with brushing performed with a very strong abrasive toothpaste (RDA = 90) (Lacult Active). Color parameters were recorded at the baseline (T0) after staining procedures (T1) and repolishing (T2) using a spectrophotometer. Color change (∆E00) and translucency (TP, CR) were evaluated. Data were statistically analyzed (p < 0.05). RESULTS For ∆E00 after staining, Group 1 showed the highest color change and Group 3 the lowest. All groups were significantly different (p < 0.001) except for Group 2 vs. Group 4; after repolishing, Group 1 was significantly higher than Group 3 (p < 0.001), Group 2 (p < 0.001), and Group 4 (p = 0.003); Group 2 was higher than Group 3 (p < 0.001). For TP variable, after staining procedures, Group 2 was significantly higher than all other groups (p < 0.001), and Group 1 was significantly higher than Group 3 (p < 0.001) and Group 4 (p = 0.007). After repolishing, Group 4 was significantly lower than Group 3 (p = 0.008) and Group 2 (p = 0.027). Repolishing procedure significantly reduced color parameters. CONCLUSIONS The investigated staining procedure induced significant differences in color stability and translucency. The use of a very strong abrasive toothpaste (RDA = 90) induced higher color change than a low abrasive one (RDA = 30). Repolishing procedures are able to partially reduce color change induced by artificial staining procedures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Currently, the demands for restorations have increased considerably; thus, improvements and modifications have been made in dental composite technologies especially using materials that have been claimed to improve color stability. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the effect of various solutions on the color stability of different restorative materials in vitro study. METHODS This study used three types of esthetic restorative materials. The samples comprised 45 discs, including 15 micro-hybrids, 15 nano-hybrids, and 15 glass ionomers). These discs were immersed in various beverages an hour a day for one month at room temperature. The color stability was measured using a spectrophotometer before/after immersion (days 7 and 30). RESULTS We realized a significant difference in color change with Coca-Cola and tea-milk solution after seven days and 30 days (p < 0.05). However, no significant difference was found in the samples immersed in DM after seven days and 30 days (p > 0.05). The highest value of lightness (∆L) and stainability (∆a) was seen in micro-hybrid after 30 days of immersion in tea-milk solution (- 12.16 ± 1.74 and 11.4 ± 3.82, respectively), while most samples had a positive ∆b value. CONCLUSION After one month, the tea-milk solution affected the color stability of all used restorative materials. In addition, micro-hybrid had higher color stability than nano-hybrid and glass ionomer.

Abstract
This study evaluated surface roughness, color stability, whitening index, and opacity of different types of modeling liquids for resin composite coating after exposure to staining and toothbrushing. Disc-shaped resin composite (Vittra APS, FGM) specimens were fabricated and divided into four groups (n = 10 each): control group, Composite Wetting resin (Ultradent Products), Adper Scotchbond Multipurpose adhesive (3M ESPE), and Adper Universal adhesive (3M ESPE). Surface roughness (Ra) was measured using a rugosimeter, while color stability (∆E00), whitening index (WI), and opacity (%) were measured using a spectrophotometer. Assessments were made at four time points: after polishing (baseline, T1), after immersion in red wine for 24 h (T2), and after 5,000 (T3) and 10,000 (T4) cycles of toothbrushing. Scanning electron microscopy images were captured to analyze the scratches created. The data were statistically analyzed by two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance and Tukey's honestly significant difference tests (α = .05). Modeling with the Wetting resin resulted in higher surface roughness (p < 0.05) and low color stability, which were attributable to porosities. Higher color change values were observed in the control group after staining. Both adhesives showed the lowest mean ΔE00 values (p < 0.005). WI decreased after staining, except with the use of the Universal adhesive (p < 0.005). The lowest opacity values were observed at baseline for all groups (p < 0.005). The Universal and Scotchbond adhesives had lower surface roughness, better color stability, higher WI, and the lowest opacity values after staining with red wine and toothbrushing.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the color stability and the surface roughness of a bulk-fill composite flow (SDR® Plus) by comparison to an ORMOCER-based composite (Ceram.x® Universal SphereTEC™) in order to confirm the validity of using SDR® Plus in the anterior region and to allow the prediction of its long-term results. Material and Methods 35 composite specimens of the same shade (A2), thickness (2mm) and shape of both types of composite were prepared. The specimens were cured and polished according to the manufacturer's instructions. The initial shade of the specimens was measured using a calibrated EasyShade spectrophotometer. The initial surface roughness of the specimens was measured by AFM. Afterwards, the specimens were subjected to an accelerated aging procedure through thermo-cycling, a coffee stain challenge and brushing to simulate two years in the oral environment. The shade and surface roughness of the specimens were measured again after the accelerated aging procedure. Results The mean ΔE was significantly larger than 3.368 in Ceram.x® group (-p-value<0.001) and SDR® Plus group (-p-value<0.001). The mean surface roughness has significantly increased for both groups after aging with no significant difference between the two groups. It however remained clinically acceptable. Conclusions SDR® Plus and Ceram.x® showed similar surface roughness when subjected to the same testing conditions. Concerning the color stability, both composites displayed noticeable discoloration, with higher ΔE values registered for Ceram.x®. Abstract
(1) Background: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the color change and stability of a zinc oxide nanoparticle-poly(methyl methacrylate) (ZnO NP-PMMA) nanocomposite for denture base material after immersion in different dietary and cleaning agent solutions. (2) Methods: One hundred samples were prepared and divided into four equinumerous groups depending on the weight content of ZnO NPs. The color coordinates (CIE L*a*b*) were measured using a digital colorimeter, ColorReader (Datacolor AG Europe, Rotkreuz, Switzerland), before and after immersion of the specimens in five different solutions (distilled water, coffee, red wine, black tea, denture cleaning tablet solution) for 6 months. The color changes (ΔE) were calculated using Euclidean distance and analyzed by the Shapiro-Wilk test and the ANOVA/Kruskal-Wallis multiple comparison and adequate post hoc tests. (3) Results: All tested materials showed significant color changes after their exposure to all solutions. Color changes were greatest in the case of red wine and progressed with the duration of the study. (4) Conclusions: The modification of PMMA with ZnO nanoparticles is acceptable in aesthetic terms in 2.5% and 5% weight content; however, color changes are more noticeable with higher nanoparticle content and must be discussed with the patient prior to possible use.

Abstract
This study aims to assess the color stability, water sorption, and solubility of 11 resin composites as commercially available dental products. Twenty samples (10 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness) of each material were fabricated using a customized silicone mold, followed by immersion in each of curry, coffee, wine, and distilled water for 28 days (n = 5). Baseline shade and color changes (ΔE) were measured using a reflection spectrophotometer. The CIE L*, a*, b* system was used to evaluate the color changes. Five samples of each resin composite were applied to test water sorption and solubility according to ISO 4049:2009. As a result, the ∆E values were significantly influenced by each of the three factors (composition of material, solution, time) and the interactions between them (p < 0.001). Highest resistance to discoloration was achieved by Ceram.X One Universal (CXU), followed by Magnafill Putty (MP). Generally, microhybrid composites showed fewer color changes than nanohybrid composites and giomers. DX. Universal and Filtek Z350 XT showed the highest ΔE values in all colorants. All materials tested in this study fulfilled the criteria of ISO 4049:2009; CXU and MP had the lowest water sorption and solubility. The Pearson test showed statistically significant positive correlations between water sorption and ΔE and between solubility and ΔE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to review the experimental staining procedures performed in in-vitro studies for evaluating color stability of resin-based composites used for direct restorations. OVERVIEW A review was performed with the purpose to identify in vitro procedures carried out to establish staining and color stability of resin-based composites used for direct restorations. A literature search was performed on four online databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase and Web of Science) for articles published from January 1st 2001 till March 20th 2021, using a combination of free words and Medical Subject Headings (MESH) terms: "Composite Resins" AND "Color Stability" OR "Staining." Two reviewers screened titles and/or abstracts of 1728 unique studies. In total, 208 studies were selected for full-text reading, from which 178 were included in the review. The assessed variables were specimen dimensions, shape, and surface finishing; time before immersion; staining media type, dwell time, temperature and renewal interval; type of composite; color and translucency assessment parameters and measuring system. One hundred and seventy-eight articles analyzed color stability with staining liquids. Coffee was the most used staining medium (n = 102), followed by tea (n = 61), and red wine (n = 55). A disc-shaped specimen was used in most studies (n = 170) with a 2 mm thickness (n = 116). Spectrophotometers were the most used color assessment devices (n = 154), followed by colorimeters (n = 17). Color differences were quantified with ΔE (n = 154), ΔE00 (n = 23). Acceptability and or perceptibility thresholds were also taken into consideration (n = 126). CONCLUSIONS The large variety of staining procedure suggests the need for standardization. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Aesthetic failure due to discoloration is a relevant clinical problem. Evaluating benefits and drawbacks of resin based composites artificial staining procedures will improve to predict materials clinical performances.

Abstract
Background The resin-based materials are used extensively in esthetic restorations but are. prone to color changes over time. Aims To assess the discoloration effect of red tea, Arabic coffee, and black coffee on the resin infiltrated white spot lesions (WSL). Moreover, to investigate the impact of time (1d, 3d, and 7d) on the discoloration of the resin infiltrated WSLs. Materials and methods Thirty-three extracted human premolar teeth were used to create WSLs, and ICON resin infiltration treatment was performed to obliterate the enamel pores. Teeth with resin infiltrated WSLs were sectioned into two halves by cutting mesio-distally and cross-sectionally at 1 mm below the CEJ. The resin infiltrated specimens was exposed to control (artificial saliva) and staining subgroups. Colour stability was assessed using the CIE L*a*b* system. Results Analysis of variance (p < 0.05) and Tukey’s multiple comparison tests revealed an insignificant color change in the control group. The immersion of resin infiltrated specimens at time intervals of 1 d (p < 0.001), 3 d (p < 0.001), and 7 d (p < 0.001) showed significant differences in color change. Conclusion Resin infiltrated WSLs showed marked color changes after exposure to red tea, black coffee, and Arabic coffee over time. Severe discoloration of the infiltrant was evident with the use of red tea compared to black coffee and Arabic coffee. This suggests that ICON resin-based composite material might not be a suitable material for WSL infiltration.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface roughness, microhardness, color change, and translucency of a newly marketed universal nanohybrid composite resin (CR) (G-aenial A'CHORD) comparing with four contemporary universal CRs including two nanofilled (Filtek and Estelite Asteria) and two nanohybrid CRs (Charisma Dimond and Neo Spectra ST HV in vitro). Sixty-five specimens (8.0 mm × 2.0 mm) were fabricated (n = 13, per group). After finishing and polishing, specimens were subjected to surface roughness and microhardness tests. Color and translucency of the specimens were evaluated at baseline and after darkening with coffee solution at day 1 and day 7. A representative specimen from each group was investigated under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Data was analyzed statistically (p < .05). There were significant differences among the groups in terms of surface roughness, microhardness, color, and translucency. The surface roughness was recorded as: Charisma Diamond > Neo Spectra ST HV, Filtek > Estelite Asteria, G-aenial A'CHORD, whereas Vickers Hardness number was as: Filtek, Charisma Diamond > Neo Spectra ST HV > G-aenial A'CHORD, Estelite Asteria. Color change was as: Charisma Diamond > Neo Spectra ST HV, Filtek, G-aenial A'CHORD > Estelite Asteria and the translucency was as: Neo Spectra ST HV > G-aenial A'CHORD, Filtek > Estelite Asteria, Charisma Diamond. SEM examinations revealed smooth surfaces for G-aenial A'CHORD, Neo Spectra ST HV and Estelite Asteria. Mechanical and optical properties of universal composite resins with different compositions show variations.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the color stability of aesthetic restorative resin-matrix materials after their immersion in different dietary and therapeutic solutions. Thirty disc-shaped specimens (10 × 2 mm) were prepared from three different types of resin-matrix composites used in dentistry (BE, FS, AF). The color coordinates (L*a*b*, ΔL*, Δa*, Δa*, Δb* and ΔE*) were measured using a VITA Easyshade 3D-Master (VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, Germany) before and after the immersion of the specimens in coffee, red wine, Coca-Cola®, Eludril Care®, and distilled water solutions for 40 h. The color change (ΔE*) was calculated and analyzed by the Kolmogorov -Smirnov test and the Kruskal -Wallis multiple-comparison test. All the restorative materials showed significant color (ΔE*) changes after their exposure to red wine, followed by coffee and Coca-Cola®; however, one nanohybrid resin-matrix composite showed a high color stability in such colored test solutions. The chemical composition and content of the organic matrix played a key role in the color stability of the resin-matrix composites. Clinicians should advise their patients about the chemical interaction between dietary substances and different resin-matrix composites.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study compared the clinical performance of large indirect restorations (IRs) versus direct restorations (DRs) in posterior teeth. METHODS Thirty subjects received two class II restorations (n = 60), one fabricated from a precured composite block (Grandio Blocs, VOCO) for the indirect technique (IT) and the other with light-cured composite (GrandioSO, VOCO) for the direct technique (DT). For IT, the restoration was created using the computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturer (CAD/CAM) system. For DT, the material was applied light-cured by using a layering technique. All restorations were evaluated by using the World Dental Federation criteria. RESULTS Twenty-three subjects attended the 2-year recall, and 46 restorations were evaluated. No significant differences were detected between the techniques for most parameters analyzed (p > 0.05). For "color match" at 7 days and 6 months, better results were observed for the DT. In relation to the overall scores, all restorations were esthetically acceptable after 2 years, while 93.3% of DT and 90% of IT showed acceptable function. For biological scores, 96.67% of DRs and 100% of IRs was acceptable after 24 months. Considering all properties, the success rates were 93.3% for DRs and 90% for IRs. CONCLUSIONS After 2 years, both restorations presented similar and good clinical behavior for all the properties analyzed. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Light-cured direct posterior composite restorations may perform similarly to indirect composite restorations made with precured CAD/CAM composite blocks up to 2 years.

Abstract
Aim: To investigate the surface roughness, surface hardness, and solubility of bulk-fill composites after exposure to food-simulating liquids (FSLs). Materials and Methods: A total of 200 disc-shaped samples (8 mm diameter × 4 mm depth) were prepared using four bulk-fill composites (SonicFillTM, Tetric® EvoCeram Bulk Fill, Beautifil-Bulk Restorative, FiltekTM Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative) and a microhybrid composite (FiltekTM Z250) ( n = 40). Following the measurement of initial weights of the samples ( m1), the surface roughness measurements were gauged using a contact-profilometer. The samples were stored in four different FSLs for 7 days, and then the second surface roughness values were recorded. The samples were stored in a desiccator to reach the constant mass and the values were recorded as m2, then the solubility levels were calculated. The Vickers microhardness values of the samples were determined. A total of 20 specimens were evaluated in terms of surface morphology with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Data were statistically analyzed with the two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni tests ( P < .05). Results: Beautifil-Bulk Restorative was affected at most in terms of surface roughness after storage in FSLs and citric acid caused the highest values in this group ( P < .005). Beautifil-Bulk Restorative and Filtek Z250 showed the highest surface hardness values, while the Tetric EvoCeram group had the lowest. The highest solubility values were found in Beautifil-Bulk Restorative, and citric acid and ethanol yielded the highest solubility values for all of the composites. Conclusion: Beautifil-Bulk Restorative is the most affected group in all parameters evaluated and also affected overly by citric acid among the FSLs in consequence of its prereacted glass ionomer fillers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare color stability of 3 resin based restorative materials when immersed into staining media at 0, 3, 30, 45, 60, and 75 days, and to assess the efficacy of surface polishing in reducing possible discoloration. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ninety composite discs were prepared in a custom-made mold (5 mm diameter and 2 mm thick) from 3 different light cured composites (Filtek™ Z250, Harmonize™, and G-aenial). Color differences of all specimens were measured by a spectrophotometer according to the CIE L*a*b* system. After baseline color measurements, 30 discs from each composite group were randomly divided into 3 subgroups of 10 specimens each. Subgroups (n=10) were immersed for 75 days into different staining solutions: coffee, tomato sauce, and distilled water (control). Solutions were changed every week and color measurements were repeated every 15 days. At day 75, color measurements of the specimens were performed before and after surface polishing with aluminum oxide discs. The experimental data were statistically evaluated using repeated measures one-way ANOVA test followed by Tukey's multiple pairwise comparison with a significance level of 5%. RESULTS Of the 3 composites, G-aenial reported the highest color change deviation when immersed into coffee (ΔE=8.674), and tomato sauce (ΔE=7.737) at day 75, followed by Harmonize that also exhibited a significant difference for coffee (ΔE=4.7) and tomato sauce (ΔE=3.8) when compared to distilled water. While Filtek™ Z250 did not show any significant difference between the 3 storage solutions (P>0.05). Only G-aenial had significant color change (P<0.05) after polishing with aluminum oxide discs for all tested samples, whereas Filtek™ Z250 and Harmonize presented no significant difference after surface polishing (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Under the tested experimental conditions, Filtek™ Z250, among the 3 resin-based composites, exhibited the highest color stability when subjected to coffee and tomato sauce as well. Whereas, G-aenial presented the highest color deviation when immersed in both staining media. Surface polishing effectively reduced coffee and tomato sauce discolorations for G-aenial's specimens and had no significant effect regarding Filtek™ Z250 and Harmonize.

Abstract
The paper reviews the environmental factors affecting ageing processes, and the degradation of resins, filler, and the filler-matrix interface. It discusses the current methods of testing materials in vitro. A review of literature was conducted with the main sources being PubMed. ScienceDirect, Mendeley, and Google Scholar were used as other resources. Studies were selected based on relevance, with a preference given to recent research. The ageing process is an inherent element of the use of resin composites in the oral environment, which is very complex and changes dynamically. The hydrolysis of dental resins is accelerated by some substances (enzymes, acids). Bonds formed between coupling agent and inorganic filler are prone to hydrolysis. Methods for prediction of long-term behaviour are not included in composite standards. Given the very complex chemical composition of the oral environment, ageing tests based on water can only provide a limited view of the clinical performance of biomaterial. Systems that can reproduce dynamic changes in stress (thermal cycling, fatigue tests) are better able to mimic clinical conditions and could be extremely valuable in predicting dental composite clinical performance. It is essential to identify procedure to determine the ageing process of dental materials.

Abstract
Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of solutions on the color stability of nanohybrid composite resins. Methods: The experimental sample consisted of 90 composite specimens (Beautifil II; Z350XT; Premisa), divided into three subgroups (n=10) according to the solutions (matte tea; lemon flavor isotonic drink; artificial saliva). The specimens were immersed in the solutions (5 mL/specimen) while stirring for 5 minutes, four times a day, with 1-hour intervals, repeated for 15 days. The color of the specimens was analyzed before (baseline) and after the 15th day of cycling using the CIELAB system. Data were analyzed using the two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test (α=5%). Results: Different behaviors were observed among resins. Beautifil II presented the highest color change (∆E=4.18) and less color stability, statistically different from the others (p<.05). The solutions also presented different behaviors. The lemon flavor isotonic drink (∆E=3.95) promoted the highest color change, statistically different from saliva (∆E=2.75; p<.05). The interaction between Beautifil II and isotonic drink became even more evident and significant (p<.05). Conclusion: The isotonic drink is the solution that most affected the resins, and Beautifil II presents the worst color stability.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Exceptional optical properties characterize teeth. As such, an esthetic restorative material should enable the dental professional to imitate the optical properties of natural teeth accurately. IPS Empress Direct was introduced to the market with the claim that it can mimic optically dental tissues with superior clinical performance. AIM To evaluate the ability of IPS Empress Direct to mimic tooth appearance and color and resist staining. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three disc specimens were prepared for each shade of enamel and dentin of Lucirin-based composite, IPS Empress Direct (Ivoclar Vivadent) (A1, A2, A3, B1, and B2) (total of 60). The specimens were submitted to colorimetric evaluation in comparison after immersion in 10 different solutions (coffee, coffee with sugar, coffee with milk, red tea, red tea with sugar, red tea with milk, tomato juice, pomegranate juice, coke, and distilled water as a control group) for 4 weeks using spectrophotometric analysis. RESULTS After plotting the data and conducting linear regression analyses, IPS Empress showed high potential in mimicking the optical properties of natural tooth color according to the CIE color space. Three solutions showed a change in color higher than 3, coffee, coffee with sugar, and red tea. All other solution showed changes in color that are acceptable clinically. CONCLUSION IPS Empress Direct can satisfactory mimic teeth appearance and color while manifesting high stability of color resisting staining upon clinical aging.

Abstract
Objectives Water sorption and water solubility adversely affect the mechanical properties and biocompatibility of the denture material. This study aimed to evaluate the water sorption and solubility of three direct hard reline acrylic resins and a heat-curing one after immersion in food-simulating agents. Materials and Methods This study was performed on four groups of samples (n = 10 per group). The samples were made of three direct hard reline acrylic resins (TDV Cold Liner Rebase, Tokuyama Rebase II Fast, GC Reline Hard) and a heat-curing one (Meliodent). Each group was divided into four subgroups (n = 10) to undergo 7-day immersion in distilled water, 75% ethanol/water, 0.02 N citric acid, and heptane. Water sorption and solubility were calculated according to Oysaed and Ruyter formula. The statistical analyses were done by using SPSS software (version 22). Kruskal-Wallis H Test and Dunn's test were used to detect any significant difference among the groups (P < 0.05). Results The median range of water solubility and water sorption values were -0.87-4.92 and 3.75-27.25 μg/mm3, respectively. The median solubility and sorption values of different resins differed significantly in the same solution (P < 0.05). Besides, immersion in different solutions caused significant differences in the median solubility and sorption values of each reline material (P < 0.05), except for Meliodent whose solubility was not significantly affected by different solutions (P = 0.16). Conclusions Water sorption and solubility values of the tested hard reline resins were within the range of International Standards Organization 1567:1999. Given the low sorption and solubility values, these hard reline materials can be safely used in clinical situations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare the color stability and water absorption of 3 commercially available resin cements in vitro by storing them in 0.15% erythrosine, dark brown and sunset yellow for 30 days. METHODS 2 self-adhesive resin cements and 1 dual/light curing, resin-based dental luting material were evaluated (total 120 samples). The CIE L, a, b of 10 mm diameter-2.0 mm height disk shaped samples was measured using a spectrophotometer for color stability on a white background, 10 mm diameter-1.0 mm height disk shaped samples were measured for water absorption before and after storage in food colorant solutions. RESULTS The self-adhesive resin cement-sunset yellow group caused the most severe discoloration (27.89 ± 3.64) that is clinically unacceptable. The lowest discoloration was seen in the self-adhesive resin cement control group (3.35 ± 1.13). The highest water absorption was observed in the self-adhesive resin cement-dark brown group (2.41 ± 0.60) and the lowest water absorption in the dental luting material-control group (0.65 ± 0.17). CONCLUSIONS Storage food colorant solutions affected the color stability and water absorption of different resin cement materials.
