Significant enhancement in the electrochemical determination of 4-aminophenol from nanoporous gold by decorating with a Pd@CeO2 composite film

An electrode based on Pd@CeO₂ nanocomposite-decorated nanoporous gold on a carbon fiber paper was achieved, which demonstrated excellent performance in 4-aminophenol determination.

Spectroscopic (FT-IR/FT-Raman) and computational (HF/DFT) investigation and HOMO/LUMO/MEP analysis on 2-amino-4-chlorophenol

The spectra (FT-IR and FT-Raman) of the present compound; 2-amino-4-chlorophenol (2A4CP) were recorded in the range of 4000-100 cm(-1). All the computational calculations were made in the ground state using the HF and DFT (B3LYP and B3PW91) methods with 6-31++G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. From potential energy surface calculation, there are two conformers, Rot-1 and Rot-2 for this molecule. The computational results detected that Rot-1 form is the most stable conformer. Making use of the recorded data, the complete vibrational assignments were made and analysis of the observed fundamental bands of molecule is carried out. The complete assignments were performed on the basis of the total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanics (SQMs) method and PQS program. The shifting of the frequencies in the vibrational pattern of the title molecule due to the substitutions; NH(2) and Cl were deeply investigated by the vibrational analysis. Moreover, (13)C NMR and (1)H NMR chemical shifts were calculated by using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method with HF/B3LYP/B3PW91 methods with 6-311++G(d,p). A study on the electronic properties, such as HOMO and LUMO energies, were performed by time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) approach. Besides frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) was performed. NLO properties and Mulliken charges of the 2A4CP were also calculated and interpreted. The thermodynamic properties (heat capacity, entropy, and enthalpy) of the title compound at different temperatures were calculated in gas phase.

Conformational stability, vibrational assignmenents, barriers to internal rotations and ab initio calculations of 2-aminophenol (d 0 and d3)

The Raman (3700-100 cm(-1)) and infrared (4000-400 cm(-1)) spectra of solid 2-aminophenol (2AP) have been recorded. The internal rotation of both OH and NH2 moieties produce ten conformers with either Cs or C1 symmetry. However, the calculated energies as well as the imaginary vibrational frequencies reduce rotational isomerism to five isomers. The molecular geometry has been optimized without any constraints using RHF, MP2 and B3LYP levels of theory at 6-31G(d), 6-311+G(d) and 6-31++G(d,p) basis sets. All calculations predict 1 (cis; OH is directed towards NH2) to be the most stable conformation except RHF/6-31++G(d,p) basis set. The 1 (cis) isomer is found to be more stable than 8 (trans; OH is away from the NH2 moiety and the NH bonds are out-of-plane) by 1.7 kcal/mol (598 cm(-1)) as obtained from MP2/6-31G(d) calculations. Aided by experimental and theoretical vibrational spectra, cis and trans 2AP are coexist in solution but cis isomer is more likely present in the crystalline state. Aided by MP2 and B3LYP frequency calculations, molecular force fields, simulated vibrational spectra utilizing 6-31G(d) basis set as well as normal coordinate analysis, complete vibrational assignments for HOC6H4NH2 and DOC6H4ND2 have been proposed. Furthermore, we carried out potential surface scan, to determine the barriers to internal rotations of NH2 and OH groups. All results are reported herein and compared with similar molecules when appropriate.

Vibrational spectroscopy investigation using ab initio and density functional theory analysis on the structure of 2-amino-5-methylphenol

The laser Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectra of 2-amino-5-methylphenol were recorded in the solid phase. The equilibrium geometry, harmonic vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities, Raman scattering activities, depolarization ratios and reduced masses were calculated by HF and density functional B3LYP methods by using 6-311+G(d,p) basis set. The scaled theoretical wavenumbers showed very good agreement with the experimental values. The thermodynamic functions of the title compound were also performed at HF/6-31G(d,p)/6-311+G(d,p) and B3LYP/6-31G(d,p)/6-311+G(d,p) levels of theory. A detailed interpretations of the infrared and Raman spectra of 2-amino-5-methylphenol is reported. The theoretical spectrograms for FT-IR spectra of the title molecule have been constructed.

Synchronous fluorescence determination of DNA based on the interaction between methylene blue and DNA

The fluorescence intensity of methylene blue (MB) quenched by DNA in the pH range of 6.5-8.0 was studied with synchronous fluorescence technology. A novel method for detecting single-stranded and double-stranded DNA was developed. The decreased fluorescence intensity at 664 nm is in proportion to the concentration of DNA in the range of 0.28-11.0 micromol L(-1) for ctDNA, 0.14-8.25 micromol L(-1) for thermally denatured ctDNA and 0.28-8.25 micromol L(-1) for hsDNA. The detection limits (S/N=3) are 0.11, 0.04 and 0.04 micromol L(-1), respectively. The method is rapid, selective, and the reagents are lower toxic. It has been used for the determination of DNA in synthetic samples with good satisfaction. In addition, the interaction modes between MB and ctDNA and the mechanism of the fluorescence quenching were also discussed in detail. The experimental results from absorption spectra and fluorescence polarization indicate that the possible interaction modes between MB and DNA are the electrostatic binding and the intercalation binding.

Synchronous fluorescence, UV–visible spectrophotometric, and voltammetric studies of the competitive interaction of bis(1,10-phenanthroline)copper(II) complex and neutral red with DNA

Constant wavelength synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy (CW-SFS), UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, and cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry were applied to investigate the competitive interaction of DNA with the bis(1,10-phenanthroline)copper(II) complex cation ([Cu(phen)(2)](2+)) and a fluorescence probe, neutral red dye (NR), in a tris-hydrogen chloride buffer (pH 7.4). The results show that both the [Cu(phen)(2)](2+)and the NR molecules can intercalate competitively into the DNA double-helix structure. The cyclic voltammetry method showed that both anodic and cathodic currents of [Cu(phen)(2)](2+) decreased on addition of the DNA and the intercalated [Cu(phen)(2)](2+)-DNA complex formed (beta = (4.14 +/- 0.24) x 10(3)). CW-SFS measurements were facilitated by the use of the three-way resolution of the CW-SFS for NR, [Cu(phen)(2)](2+), and NR-DNA. The important constant wavelength (CW) interval, Deltalambda, was shown to vary considerably when optimized (135, 58, and 98 nm for NR, NR-DNA, and [Cu(phen)(2)](2+), respectively). This approach clearly avoided the errors that otherwise would have arisen from the common assumption that Deltalambda is constant. Furthermore, a chemometrics approach, parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC), was applied to resolve the measured three-way CW-SFS data, and the results provided simultaneously the concentration information for the three reaction components, NR, [Cu(phen)(2)](2+), and NR-DNA, for the system at each equilibrium point. The PARAFAC analysis indicated that the intercalation of the [Cu(phen)(2)](2+) molecule into the DNA proceeds by exchanging with the NR probe and can be attributed to two parallel reactions. Comprehensive information was readily obtained; the replacement of the intercalated NR commenced immediately on introduction of [Cu(phen)(2)](2+), approximately 50% of NR was replaced by [Cu(phen)(2)](2+) at a concentration of 0.45 x 10(-5) mol L(-1), and nearly all of the NR was replaced at a [Cu(phen)(2)](2+) concentration of 2.50 x 10(-5) mol L(-1). This work has the potential to improve extraction of information from the fluorescence intercalator displacement (FID) assay.

Determination of proteins at nanogram levels by synchronous fluorescence scan technique with a novel composite nanoparticle as a fluorescence probe

A novel composite nanoparticle has been prepared by an in situ polymerization method and applied as a protein fluorescence probe. The nano-CdS has been prepared, then the polymerization of acrylic acid (AA) was carried out by initiator potassium persulfate (KPS) under ultrasonic irradiation. The surface of the composite nanoparticles was covered with abundant carboxylic groups (--COOH). The nanoparticles are water-soluble, stable, and biocompatible. The synchronous fluorescence intensity of the composite nanoparticles is significantly increased in the presence of trace protein at pH 6.90. Based on this, a new synchronous fluorescence scan (SFS) analysis was developed for the determination of proteins including BSA, HSA, and human gamma-IgG. When Delta lambda = 280 nm, maximum synchronous fluorescence is produced at 290 nm. Under the optimum conditions, the response is linearly proportional to the concentration of proteins. The linear range is 0.1-10 microg ml(-1) for HSA, 0.09-8.0 microg ml(-1) for BSA, and 0.08-15 microg ml(-1) for human gamma-IgG, respectively. The method has been applied to the determination of the total protein in human serum samples collected from the hospital and the results are satisfactory.
