Abstract
New Ru(II) complexes encompassing α-diimine ligands were synthesized by reacting ruthenium precursors with α-diimine hydrazones. The new ligands and Ru(II) complexes were analyzed by analytical and various spectroscopic methods. The molecular structures of L1 and complexes 1, 3, and 4 were determined by single-crystal XRD studies. The results reveal a distorted octahedral geometry around the Ru(II) ion for all complexes. Moreover, the new ruthenium complexes show efficient catalytic activity toward the C-N and C-C coupling reaction involving alcohols. Particularly, complex 3 demonstrates effective conversion in N-alkylation of aromatic amines, α-alkylation of ketones, and β-alkylation of alcohols.

Abstract
AbstractA Schiff base ligand, N,N′-bis[1-(4-chlorophenyl)ethylidene]ethane-1,2-diamine (SBL), was synthesized by condensation of 4-chloroacetophenone with ethylenediamine in methanol in the presence of H2SO4 as catalyst. The structure of SBL was elucidated by spectroscopic (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR and MS) and elemental analyses, and also confirmed by XRD. The SBL was used to prepare metal complexes 1-2 with Pb+2 and Cd+2, respectively. The structures of the complexes were elucidated by IR, MS and elemental analyses. On the basis of electronic spectra and magnetic moment data, octahedral geometry was proposed for the synthesized complexes 1-2. The conductivity data showed the non-electrolytic nature of the complexes 1-2. The SBL and complexes 1-2 were subjected to measure their biological potential against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli bacteria. SBL showed non-significant anti-bacterial potential whereas complexes showed moderate potential as compared to standard impinium. In the toxicity with brine shrimp larvae, complexes showed more toxic effect than the SBL. In the experiments to determine the stability constants of SBL with CuCl2, Cu(OAc)2, CoCl2 and Co(NO3)2; SBL showed highest stability constants with Cu(OAc)2 which is 1.550 × 107 at 1:1 (L:M) and second highest with Co(NO3)2 which is 6.861 × 106 at 3:2 (L:M).

Abstract
Schiff bases are versatile organic compounds which are widely used and synthesized by condensation reaction of different amino compound with aldehydes or ketones known as imine. Schiff base ligands are considered as privileged ligands as they are simply synthesized by condensation. They show broad range of application in medicine, pharmacy, coordination chemistry, biological activities, industries, food packages, dyes, and polymer and also used as an O2 detector. Semicarbazone is an imine derivative which is derived from condensation of semicarbazide and suitable aldehyde and ketone. Imine ligand-containing transition metal complexes such as copper, zinc, and cadmium have shown to be excellent precursors for synthesis of metal or metal chalcogenide nanoparticles. In recent years, the researchers have attracted enormous attention toward Schiff bases, semicarbazones, thiosemicarbazones, and their metal complexes owing to numerous applications in pharmacology such as antiviral, antifungal, antimicrobial, antimalarial, antituberculosis, anticancer, anti-HIV, catalytic application in oxidation of organic compounds, and nanotechnology. In this review, we summarize the synthesis, structural, biological, and catalytic application of Schiff bases as well as their metal complexes.

Abstract
Development of new chemotherapeutic agents to treat microbial infections and recurrent cancers is of pivotal importance. Metal based drugs particularly ruthenium complexes have the uniqueness and desired properties that make them suitable candidates for the search of potential chemotherapeutic agents. In this study, two mixed ligand Ru(III) complexes [Ru(Cl)2(SB)(Phen] (RC-1) and [Ru(Cl)2(SB)(Bipy)] (RC-2) were synthesised and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques and their molecular structure was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Antibacterial activity evaluation against two Gram-positive (S. pneumonia and E. faecalis) and four Gram-negative strains (P. aurogenosa, K. pneumoniae, S. enterica, and E. coli) revealed their moderate antibacterial activity with MIC value of ≥250 μg/mL. Anticancer activity evaluation against a non-small lung cancer cell line (H1299) revealed the tremendous anticancer activity of these complexes which was further validated by DNA binding and docking results. DNA binding profile of the complexes studied by UV-Visible and fluorescence spectroscopy showed an intercalative binding mode with CT-DNA and an intrinsic binding constant in the range of 3.481-1.015× 105 M-1. Both the complexes were also found to exert weak toxicity to human erythrocytes by haemolytic assay compared to cisplatin. Potential of these complexes as anticancer agents will be further delineated by in vivo studies.

Abstract
A set each of new bivalent and trivalent ruthenium complexes, [Ru(III)(HL)Cl2(EPh3)2] and [Ru(II)(L)(CO)(EPh3)2] (E = P (complexes and ) or As (complexes and )) were synthesised from the reactions of [Ru(III)Cl3(EPh3)3] with 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde benzoic acid hydrazone (H2L) in methanol-chloroform and characterized by elemental analysis, spectral data and XRD study. A suitable mechanism to account for the formation of bivalent ruthenium carbonyl complexes from the corresponding trivalent precursors is provided by considering the role of added base in the reaction. Interaction of complexes with CT-DNA/bovine serum albumin was analysed with absorption and emission spectral titration studies. In vitro cytotoxic potential of the above ruthenium hydrazone complexes assayed against the A549 cell line revealed a significant growth inhibition. The test complexes added in IC50 concentration into the cell culture medium enhanced the release of lactate dehydrogenase, NO and reactive oxygen species in comparison with the control. Cell death induced by the complexes was studied using a propidium iodide staining assay and showed noticeable changes in the cell morphology which resembled apoptosis.

Abstract
This study is planned to report the advancement of green microwave approach in the fabrication of a new series of biologically potent (N^X, where X=O/S) donor Schiff bases and their cadmium(II) and tin(II) complexes. The ligands and their metal complexes have been characterized in terms of elemental analysis, molar ionic conductance, magnetic moment and spectral (IR, UV-Vis, NMR ((1)H, (119)Sn), FAB-mass, thermal and XRD) data. The data revealed that the ligands coordinated to the metal center via nitrogen and oxygen/sulfur atoms and form an octahedral arrangement of the ligands around central metal atom. All compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activities against two pathogenic bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli and two fungi Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus by standard disc diffusion method. The discs were stored in an incubator at 37°C. The compounds were dissolved in DMF at 500 and 1000 ppm concentrations for screening biocidal activity. The compounds were dissolved in DMF to get the 100 and 200 ppm concentration of test solutions for screening fungicidal activity. The inhibition zone around each disc was measured (in mm) after 24 h and 96 h for biocidal and fungicidal activities respectively.

Abstract
Schiff base disulfide ligands (H2L(1-6)) were synthesized from the condensation of cystamine with salicylaldehyde(H2L(1)), 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde(H2L(2)), o-vanillin(H2L(3)), 2-hydroxyacetophenone(H2L(4)), 3-methyl-2-hydroxyacetophenone(H2L(5)), and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde(H2L(6)). H2L(1-6) reacts with the ruthenium precursor complex [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3] in benzene giving rise to six new ruthenium(II) complexes of general formula [Ru(CO)L(1-6)]. Characterization of the new complexes was carried out by using elemental and spectral (IR, UV-Vis, NMR ((1)H and (13)C) and Mass) techniques. An octahedral geometry was assigned for all the complexes based on the spectral data obtained. The catalytic efficiency of the new complexes in aldehyde to amide conversion in the presence of NaHCO3, N-alkylation of aniline in the presence of t-BuOK, and transfer hydrogenation of ketones in the presence of iPrOH/KOH reactions were studied. Furthermore, the effect of solvents and catalyst/substrate ratio on the catalytic aldehyde to amide conversion were also discussed.

Abstract
The in vitro antifungal activity of nine dirutheniumpentadithiocarbamate complexes C1-C9 was investigated and assessed for its activity against four different fungal species with clinical interest and related to invasive fungal infections (IFIs), such as Candida spp. [C. albicans (two clinical isolates), C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. parapsolisis, C. tropicalis, C.dubliniensis (six clinical isolates)], Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (seven clinical isolates), Cryptococcus neoformans and Sporothrix schenckii. All synthesized complexes C1-C9 and also the free ligands L1-L9 were submitted to in vitro tests against those fungi and the results are very promising, since some of the obtained MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) values were very low (from 10-6 mol mL-1 to 10-8 mol mL-1) against all investigated clinically relevant fungal pathogens, except for C. glabrata, that the MIC values are close to the ones obtained for fluconazole, the standard antifungal agent tested. Preliminary structure-activity relations (SAR) might be suggested and a strong influence from steric and lipophilic parameters in the antifungal activity can be noticed. Cytotoxicity assays (IC50) showed that the complexes are not as toxic (IC50 values are much higher-30 to 200 fold-than MIC values). These ruthenium complexes are very promising lead compounds for novel antifungal drug development, especially in IFIs, one of most harmful emerging infection diseases (EIDs).

Abstract
A new Schiff base and a new series of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) complexes were synthesized by the condensation of naphthofuran-2-carbohydrazide and diacetylmonoxime. Metal complexes of the Schiff base were prepared from their chloride salts of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) in ethanol. The ligand along with its metal complexes have been characterized on the basis of analytical data, IR, electronic, mass, 1HNMR, ESR spectral data, thermal studies, magnetic susceptibility, and molar conductance measurements. The nonelectrolytic behaviour of the complexes was assessed from the measured low conductance data. The elemental analysis of the complexes confirm the stoichiometry of the type CuL2Cl2 and MLCl2 where M = Ni(II), Co(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) and L = Schiff base. The redox property of the Cu(II) complex was investigated by electrochemical method using cyclic voltammetry. In the light of these results, Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes are assigned octahedral geometry, Cd(II), and Hg(II) complexes tetrahedral geometry. In order to evaluate the effect of metal ions upon chelation, both the ligand and its metal complexes were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method. The DNA cleaving capacity of all the complexes was analysed by agarose gel electrophoresis method.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of three hexa-coordinated ruthenium(II) Schiff base complexes of the type [RuCl(CO)(B)L] (B=PPh(3)/AsPh(3)/py and L=monobasic tridentate Schiff base ligand derived by the condensation of salicylaldehyde with 4-aminoantipyrine) are reported. IR, electronic, NMR and mass spectral data of the complexes are discussed. An octahedral geometry has been tentatively proposed for all the complexes. DNA binding properties of the ligand and its ruthenium(II) complexes have been investigated by electronic absorption spectroscopy. Two of the complexes were tested for DNA cleavage property. Finally, in vitro study of the cytotoxicity of the ligand and the complex [RuCl(CO)(PPh(3))L] on HeLa were tested. The IC(50) value for the ligand and the complex were 52.3 and 31.6μm respectively.

Abstract
A novel iron(III) complex [Fe(SF)](ClO4)3.2H2O; in which SF = N,N0-bis{5-[(triphenylphosphonium chloride)-methyl] salicylidene}-o-phenylenediamine) has been synthesized and characterized using different physicochemical methods. The binding of this complex with calf thymus (CT) DNA was investigated by circular dichroism, absorption studies, emission spectroscopy, voltammetric studies, and viscosity measurements. The results showed that this complex can bind to DNA via external and groove binding modes.

Abstract
Ruthenium(II) hydrazone Schiff base complexes of the type [RuCl(CO)(B)(L)] (were B=PPh(3), AsPh(3) or Py; L=hydrazone Schiff base ligands) were synthesized from the reactions of hydrazone Schiff base ligand (obtained from isonicotinoylhydrazide and different hydroxy aldehydes) with [RuHCl(CO)(EPh(3))(2)(B)] (where E=P or As; B=PPh(3), AsPh(3) or Py) in 1:1 molar ratio. All the new complexes have been characterized by analytical and spectral (FT-IR, electronic, (1)H, (13)C and (31)P NMR) data. They have been tentatively assigned an octahedral structure. The synthesized complexes have exhibited catalytic activity for oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde and cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone in the presence of N-methyl morpholine N-oxide (NMO) as co-oxidant. They were also found to catalyze the transfer hydrogenation of aliphatic and aromatic ketones to alcohols in KOH/Isopropanol.
