Abstract
Extensive research in nanotechnology has been conducted to investigate new behaviours and properties of materials with nanoscale dimensions. ZnO NPs owing to their distinct physical and chemical properties have gained considerable importance and are hence investigated to a detailed degree for exploitation of these properties. This communication, at the outset, elaborates the various chemical methods of preparation of ZnO NPs, viz., the mechanochemical process, controlled precipitation, sol-gel method, vapour transport method, solvothermal and hydrothermal methods, and methods using emulsion and micro-emulsion environments. The paper further describes the green methods employing the use of plant extracts, in particular, for the synthesis of ZnO NPs. The modifications of ZnO with organic (carboxylic acid, silanes) and inorganic (metal oxides) compounds and polymer matrices have then been described. The multitudinous applications of ZnO NPs across a variety of fields such as the rubber industry, pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics, textile industry, opto-electronics and agriculture have been presented. Elaborative narratives on the photocatalytic and a variety of biomedical applications of ZnO have also been included. The ecotoxic impacts of ZnO NPs have additionally been briefly highlighted. Finally, efforts have been made to examine the current challenges and future scope of the synthetic modes and applications of ZnO NPs.

Abstract
In this work, ZnO nanocrystals (NCs) have been effectively synthesized by a simple, efficient and cost-effective method using coconut husk extract as a novel fuel. The synthesized NCs are characterized by UV-Vis, XRD, FT-IR, SEM, EDX, Raman and PL studies. The obtained ZnO were found to be UV-active with a bandgap of 2.93 eV. The X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the crystallinity of the ZnO with hexagonally structured ZnO with a crystallite size of 48 nm, while the SEM analysis reveals the hexagonal bipyramid morphology. Photocatalytic activities of the synthesized ZnO NCs are used to degrade methylene blue and metanil yellow dyes.

Yellow Emissive Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) Aluminum by the Incorporation of ZnO Quantum Dots for OLED Applications. MICROMACHINES 2021; 12:mi12101173. Abstract
Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum complexes are of significant interest because of their remarkable optical and electrical properties, both as an emissive layer and electron injection layer. They emit light in the blue and green ranges of the visible spectrum, so for white organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), yellow emission is required as well. In this study, we propose the use of zinc oxide quantum dots to tune the emission color of the complex while maintaining its luminous efficiency. Hence, tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum-zinc oxide nanohybrids with different zinc oxide quantum dots concentrations (10, 20, or 30 wt.%) were synthesized. The structural properties were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction analysis, while the composition and optical characteristics were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, and photoluminescence emission spectroscopy. The results show that increased levels of zinc oxide quantum dots lead to a decrease in crystallinity, double hump emission and a slight red shift in emission peaks. Also, at 20 and 30 wt.% of zinc oxide quantum dots concentrations, yellow emission was observed.

Abstract
Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) are known to be one of the multifunctional inorganic compounds which are widely used in everyday applications. This study aims to fabricate ZnO-NPs using grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) peel extract with particle size ranging from 12 to 72 nm. Structural, morphological, and optical properties of the synthesized nanoparticles have been characterized by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer, TEM, DLS, and FTIR analysis. They show the significant photocatalytic degradation efficiency (>56%, 10 mg/L, 6 h) against methylene blue and antioxidant efficacy (≥80% for 1.2 mM) against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. From the results obtained it is suggested that green ZnO-NPs could be used effectively in environmental safety applications and also can address future medical concerns.

Abstract
ZnO nanoparticle array has been fabricated on the Si substrate by a simple thermal chemical vapor transport and condensation without any metal catalysts. This ZnO nanoparticles array is constructed from ZnO quantum dots (QDs), and half-embedded in the amorphous silicon oxide layer on the surface of the Si substrate. The cathodoluminescence measurements showed that there is a pronounced blue-shift of luminescence comparable to those of the bulk counterpart, which is suggested to originate from ZnO QDs with small size where the quantum confinement effect can work well. The fabrication mechanism of the ZnO nanoparticle array constructed from ZnO QDs was proposed, in which the immiscible-like interaction between ZnO nuclei and Si surface play a key role in the ZnO QDs cluster formation. These investigations showed the fabricated nanostructure has potential applications in ultraviolet emitters.

Abstract
Nanostructured ZnO materials have unique and highly attractive properties and have inspired interest in their research and development. This paper presents a facile method for the preparation of novel ZnO-based nanostructured architectures using a metal organic framework (MOF) as a precursor. In this approach, ZnO nanoparticles and ZnO@C hybrid composites were produced under several heating and atmospheric (air or nitrogen) conditions. The resultant ZnO nanoparticles formed hierarchical aggregates with a three-dimensional cubic morphology, whereas ZnO@C hybrid composites consisted of faceted ZnO crystals embedded within a highly porous carbonaceous species, as determined by several characterization methods. The newly synthesized nanomaterials showed relatively high photocatalytic decomposition activity and significantly enhanced adsorption capacities for organic pollutants.

Abstract
Transmission electron microscopy images showed that the ZnO quantum dots (QDs) were conjugated with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Bistable memories utilizing an ensemble of the ZnO QD-MWCNT heterostructures were developed and the storage capability of the devices was significantly enhanced due to the conjugation of the ZnO QDs and the MWCNTs. Operating mechanisms of memory devices fabricated utilizing the ZnO QD-MWCNT heterostructures are described on the basis of the current-voltage results. The memory devices exhibited excellent environmental stability at ambient conditions.

Abstract
In situ growth of ZnO quantum dots (QDs) on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was presented, and their application in photovoltaic cells by using flexible polyethylene terephthalate substrates was demonstrated. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images revealed the conjugation of ZnO QDs with MWCNTs. Photoluminescence spectra indicated that the charge transfer efficiency at ZnO QD-MWCNT heterojunctions was above 90%, as confirmed by time-resolved photoluminescence measurements. Current-voltage measurements on the flexible devices fabricated utilizing ZnO QD-MWCNT heterojunctions showed the robust nature of the ZnO QD-MWCNT-based photovoltaic cells and their potential applications as the power source for flexible hand-held consumer electronics.
