Fabrication of hierarchical SrTiO3@MoS2 heterostructure nanofibers as efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts for hydrogen-evolution reactions

Biowaste-Derived Heteroatom-Doped Porous Carbon as a Sustainable Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Heteroatom-doped porous carbon material (H-PCM) was synthesized using Anacardium occidentale (cashew) nut’s skin by a simple pyrolysis route. The resulting H-PCM was thoroughly characterized by various analytical techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, high-resolution transmittance electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. The obtained results strongly demonstrated that the synthesized H-PCM exhibited a porous nature, continuous sponge-like and sheet-like smooth morphology, and a moderate degree of graphitization/crystallinity with oxygen-, nitrogen-, and sulfur-containing functionalities in the carbon matrix. After the structural confirmation, as-prepared H-PCM has used a sustainable electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) because the metal-free carbonaceous catalysts are one of the most promising candidates. The H-PCM showed excellent HER activities with a lowest Tafel slope of 75 mV dec−1 and durable stability in 0.5 M H2SO4 aqueous solution. Moreover, this work provides a versatile and effective strategy for designing excellent metal-free electrocatalysts from the cheapest biowaste/biomass for large-scale production of hydrogen gas through electrochemical water splitting.

Mid-Infrared Optoelectronic Devices Based on Two-Dimensional Materials beyond Graphene: Status and Trends

Since atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) graphene was successfully synthesized in 2004, it has garnered considerable interest due to its advanced properties. However, the weak optical absorption and zero bandgap strictly limit its further development in optoelectronic applications. In this regard, other 2D materials, including black phosphorus (BP), transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), 2D Te nanoflakes, and so forth, possess advantage properties, such as tunable bandgap, high carrier mobility, ultra-broadband optical absorption, and response, enable 2D materials to hold great potential for next-generation optoelectronic devices, in particular, mid-infrared (MIR) band, which has attracted much attention due to its intensive applications, such as target acquisition, remote sensing, optical communication, and night vision. Motivated by this, this article will focus on the recent progress of semiconducting 2D materials in MIR optoelectronic devices that present a suitable category of 2D materials for light emission devices, modulators, and photodetectors in the MIR band. The challenges encountered and prospects are summarized at the end. We believe that milestone investigations of 2D materials beyond graphene-based MIR optoelectronic devices will emerge soon, and their positive contribution to the nano device commercialization is highly expected.

MoS2 nanosheets vertically grown on CoSe2 hollow nanotube arrays as an efficient catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction

Although the design and synthesis of efficient electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are highly desirable, severe challenges still need to be addressed. Herein, ultrathin MoS₂ nanosheets were vertically grown on CoSe₂ hollow nanotube arrays via a simple three-step hydrothermal reaction by using carbon cloth (CC) as a substrate and were subsequently used as a highly efficient HER electrocatalyst (MoS₂@CoSe₂-CC hybrid). The MoS₂ nanosheets uniformly self-assembled on conductive CoSe₂ nanotube arrays exhibited a hierarchical and well-ordered structure. Such a unique structure may not only comprise more exposed active sites, but also enable fast electrolyte penetration and facilitate H⁺/electron transportation to accelerate the reduction and evolution of H₂ during the electrocatalytic process. As an HER electrocatalyst with a novel three-dimensional hierarchical structure, the MoS₂@CoSe₂-CC hybrid exhibited an outstanding catalytic HER performance with a small Tafel slope of 67 mV dec^-1 in alkaline media, while only requiring a low HER overpotential of 101 mV at 10 mA cm^-2. Notably, the MoS₂@CoSe₂-CC hybrid also demonstrated exceptional electrochemical durability and structural stability even after 1000 cycles or 48 h of continuous electrolysis. Overall, this work presents a new approach for the design and synthesis of robust, highly active, and cost-effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen generation.

Synthesis and Properties of SrTiO3 Ceramic Doped with Sm2O3

The aim of this work was to study the effect of samarium oxide doping on a SrTiO₃ perovskite ceramic. After analyzing the data obtained on the morphological features of the synthesized structures, it was found that an increase in the dopant concentration led not only to a change in the morphological features, but also in the density of the ferroelectrics. Using the X-ray diffraction method, it was found that doping with Sm₂O₃ led to the formation of a multiphase system of two cubic phases of SrTiO₃ and Sm₂O₃. At the same time, an increase in the concentration of Sm₂O₃ dopant led to a change in the crystallinity degree, as well as deformation of the structure. Evaluation of the efficiency of use of synthesized ferroelectrics as catalysts for purification of aqueous media from manganese showed that an increase in the concentration of Sm₂O₃ dopant led to an increase in purification efficiency by 50–70%.

Transition metal sulfides meet electrospinning: versatile synthesis, distinct properties and prospective applications

One-dimensional (1D) electrospun nanomaterials have attracted significant attention due to their unique structures and outstanding chemical and physical properties such as large specific surface area, distinct electronic and mass transport, and mechanical flexibility. Over the past years, the integration of metal sulfides with electrospun nanomaterials has emerged as an exciting research topic owing to the synergistic effects between the two components, leading to novel and interesting properties in energy, optics and catalysis research fields for example. In this review, we focus on the recent development of the preparation of electrospun nanomaterials integrated with functional metal sulfides with distinct nanostructures. These functional materials have been prepared via two efficient strategies, namely direct electrospinning and post-synthesis modification of electrospun nanomaterials. In this review, we systematically present the chemical and physical properties of the electrospun nanomaterials integrated with metal sulfides and their application in electronic and optoelectronic devices, sensing, catalysis, energy conversion and storage, thermal shielding, adsorption and separation, and biomedical technology. Additionally, challenges and further research opportunities in the preparation and application of these novel functional materials are also discussed.

Single-Layer MoS2 Grown on Atomically Flat SrTiO3 Single Crystal for Enhanced Trionic Luminescence

The elaborate interface interactions can be critical in determining the achievable functionality of a semiconductor heterojunction (SH), particularly when two-dimensional material is enclosed in the system and its thickness is at an atomic extreme. In this work, we have successfully constructed a SH model system composed of typical transition-metal chalcogenide (TMDs) and transition metal oxides (TMO) by directly growing molybdenum sulfide (MoS₂) nanosheets on atomically flat strontium titanate (SrTiO₃) single crystal substrates through a conventional chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthetic method. Multiple measurements have demonstrated the uniform monolayer thickness and single crystallinity of the MoS₂ nanosheets as well as the atomic flatness of the heterojunction surface, both characterizing an extremely high quality of the interface. Clear evidence have been obtained for the electron transfer from the MoS₂ adlayer to the SrTiO₃ substrate which varies against the interface conditions. More importantly, the photoluminescence of MoS₂ is significantly tailored, which is correlated with both the cleanness of the interface and the crystal orientation of the SrTiO₃ substrate. These results not only shed fresh lights on the structure-property relationship of the TMDs/TMO heterostructures but also manifest the importance of the ideal interface structure for a hybridized system.

Ultraeven Mo-Doped CoP Nanocrystals as Bifunctional Electrocatalyst for Efficient Overall Water Splitting

To develop precious-metal-free bifunctional catalysts for overall water splitting, ultraeven Mo-doped CoP composites (Mo-CoP) have been fabricated by an in situ phosphorization protocol using CoMo-layered double hydroxide (CoMo-LDH) as the precursor. The ordered arrangement of cations in the CoMo-LDH could be easily phosphored and generate the ultraevenly dispersed Mo element within the CoP structure, resulting in the excellent bifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalytic activities of the composites present an increase first and then a decreasing tendency with increased Mo doping content. Among all the Mo-doped CoP materials, the composite with a Mo/Co mole ratio of 1/2.3 presents the highest HER activity and stability in acidic conditions. At the current density of -10 mA·cm^-2 in 0.5 M H₂SO₄, the overpotential is only 116 mV. In addition, the composite also presents excellent HER and OER performance under alkaline conditions. The overpotential is 118 mV for HER and 317 mV for OER at 10 mA cm^-2 in 1 M KOH. It requires a cell voltage of 1.7 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA·cm^-2 and maintains a stable water-splitting current for at least 24 h, which is superior to most reported alkaline media. This simple and efficient synthetic approach could also be used for ultraeven doping between other transition metal ions.

Three-Dimensional Network Pd-Ni/γ-Al2O3 Catalysts for Highly Active Catalytic Hydrogenation of Nitrobenzene to Aniline under Mild Conditions

In view of the current situation of high cost and low catalytic efficiency of the commercial Pd-based catalysts, adding transition metals (Ni, Co, etc.) to form the Pd-M bimetallic catalyst not only reduces the consumption of Pd but also greatly improves the catalytic activity and stability, which has attracted increasing attention. In this work, the three-dimensional network Pd-Ni bimetallic catalysts were prepared successfully by a liquid-phase in situ reduction method with the hydroxylated γ-Al₂O₃ as the support. Through investigating the effects of the precursor salt amount, reducing agent concentration, stabilizer concentration, and reducing stirring time on the synthesis of the Pd-Ni nanocatalyst, the three-dimensional network Pd-Ni bimetallic nanostructures with four different atomic ratios were prepared under an optimal condition. The obtained wire-like Pd-Ni catalysts have a uniform diameter size of about 5 nm and length up to several microns. After closely combining with the hydroxylated γ-Al₂O₃, the supported Pd-Ni/γ-Al₂O₃ catalysts exhibit nearly 100% conversion rate and selectivity for the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline at low temperature and normal pressure. The stability testing of the supported Pd-Ni/γ-Al₂O₃ catalysts shows that the conversion rate still remained above 99% after 10 cycles. There is no doubt that the supported catalysts show significant catalytic efficiency and recyclability, which provides important theoretical basis and technical support for the preparation of low-cost, highly efficient catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline.

Chemical Vapor Deposition-Assisted Fabrication of Self-Assembled Co/MnO@C Composite Nanofibers as Advanced Anode Materials for High-Capacity Li-Ion Batteries

Constructing the nanostructure of transition metal oxides for high energy density lithium-ion batteries has been widely studied recently. Prompted by the idea that the transition metal can serve as a catalyzer influence on the reversibility of solid-electrolyte interphase films, Co/MnO@C composite nanofibers were designed by electrospinning and chemical vapor deposition methods. The Co/MnO@C electrode showed superior electrochemical performance with a large capacity increase for the first 400 cycles and a high rate performance of 1345 mA h g^-1 at 1000 mA g^-1. There was no obvious decay of capacity over the whole 1000 cycles, demonstrating the excellent cycling stability of the samples. The new design and synthesis of the anodic materials may offer a prototype for high-performance and strong-stability batteries.

Multistage reclamation of Co2+-containing alginate hydrogels as excellent reduction catalyst and subsequent microwave absorber by facile transformation

The multistage reclamation of materials has made contributions to sustainable development, but further progress is still sought after. In this work, functionalized seaweed-based composites were successfully prepared and utilized in multiple stages. Specifically, Co²⁺-containing alginate hydrogels (CHB-Co²⁺) prepared by sol-gel self-assembly and adsorption method using interior/exterior co-functionalized calcium alginate as raw materials were utilized for efficient reduction of p-nitrophenol. After coupling with freeze-drying and carbonization procedures, a high-performance Co/N co-doped carbonaceous microwave absorber was obtained and investigated in detail. By virtue of unique 3D interconnected network, heterogeneous interfaces and doped heteroatom N species, by which endowing the absorber with optimal impedance matching and attenuation ability, as-fabricated NC-Co-700 exhibited prominent microwave absorption performance with -54.2 dB of RL_min at 6.4 GHz and 5.3 GHz of maximum absorption bandwidth (from 12.7 to 18.0 GHz). Additionally, in view of the dielectric loss and magnetic loss caused by the synergy effect among the functional components, the underlying absorption mechanism was proposed. This work provided a novel idea for designing biomass-based functional materials and simultaneously achieved economic benefits through the rational utilization of other products in the preparation process.

Preparation and Photocatalytic Performances of WO3/TiO2 Composite Nanofibers

The use of sunlight for photocatalytic oxidation is an ideal strategy, but it is limited by factors such as insufficient light absorption intensity of the photocatalyst and easy recombination of photogenerated electron holes. TiO2 is favored by researchers as an environment-friendly catalyst. In this paper, TiO2 is combined with WO3 to obtain a nanofiber with excellent catalytic performance under sunlight. The WO3/TiO2 composite nanofibers were synthesized by using the electrospinning method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated that WO3 was successfully integrated onto the surface of TiO2. The photodegradation performance and photocurrent analysis of the prepared nanofibers showed that the addition of WO3 really improved the photocatalytic performance of TiO2 nanofibers, methylene blue (MB) degradation rate increased from 72% to 96%, and 5% was the optimal composite mole percentage of W to Ti. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis further characterized the properties of 5% WO3/TiO2 nanofibers. The H2 generation rate of 5% WO3/TiO2 nanofibers was 107.15 μmol·g−1·h−1, in comparison with that of TiO2 nanofibers (73.21 μmol·g−1·h−1) under the same condition. The 5% WO3/TiO2 produced ·OH under illumination, which played an important role in the MB degradation. Also, the enhanced photocatalytic mechanism was also proposed based on the detailed analysis of the band gap and the active species trapping experiment. The results indicated that the effective separation of Z-scheme photogenerated electron-hole pairs and transfer system constructed between TiO2 and WO3 endowed the excellent photocatalytic activity of 5% WO3/TiO2 nanofibers.

Effect of an Electric Field on Surface Properties of Hydrophobic Particles during a Flotation Process in Salt Water

Under air flotation conditions, the effect of an electric field (EF) to the interfacial properties of hydrophobic particles in salt solution was investigated by using molecular dynamics simulation. The varieties of thickness of the hydrophobic layer on the surface of the hydrophobic particles, radial distribution function of Na⁺, diffusivity of CO₂ and H₂O, residence time of H₂O in the solvent shell of Na⁺, and the distribution of CO₂ near the graphene caused by the applied EF in different NaCl systems were calculated, and all those results were compared with those where there is no EF applied. The results reveal that the thickness of the hydrophobic layer near the hydrophobic particles is decreased under an EF. The coordination number and residence time of H₂O in the solvent shell of Na⁺ are also decreased, which indicates that the restraint of Na⁺ on surrounding H₂O is weakened, and the H₂O molecules are more mobile. Under an external EF, the diffusion coefficient of CO₂ and H₂O is increased, and the quantity of CO₂ near the surface of graphene is decreased according to the numerical results of the radial distribution of graphene-CO₂. All the results indicate that the EF will decrease the thickness of the hydrophobic layer near hydrophobic particles, which can therefore weaken the adsorption between the hydrophobic particles and the gas molecules. The simulation results in the present study can provide theoretical support for brine mineral flotation under an external EF.

Efficient Optimization of Gluconobacter oxydans Based on Protein Scaffold-Trimeric CutA to Enhance the Chemical Structure Stability of Enzymes for the Direct Production of 2-Keto-L-gulonic Acid

2-Keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KLG), the direct precursor of vitamin C, is produced by a two-step fermentation route from D-sorbitol in industry. However, this route is a complicated mix-culture system which involves three bacteria. Thus, replacement of the conventional two-step fermentation process with a one-step process could be revolutionary in vitamin C industry. The one-step fermentation of 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KLG) has been achieved in our previous study; 32.4 g/L of 2-KLG production was obtained by the one-step strain G. oxydans/pGUC-tufB-sdh-GGGGS-sndh after 168 h. In this study, L-sorbose dehydrogenase (SDH) and L-sorbosone dehydrogenase (SNDH) were expressed in G. oxydans after the codon optimization. Furthermore, the trimeric protein CutA was used to improve the chemical structure stability of SDH and SNDH. The recombinant strain G. oxydans/pGUC-tufB-SH3-sdh-GGGGS-sndh-tufB-SH3lig-(GGGGS)2-cutA produced 40.3 g/L of 2-KLG after 168 h. In addition, the expression levels of the cofactor PQQ were enhanced to further improve 2-KLG production. With the stepwise metabolic engineering of G. oxydans, the final 2-KLG production was improved to 42.6 g/L. The efficient one-step production of 2-KLG was achieved, and the final one-step industrial-scale production of 2-KLG is drawing near.

Facile Fabrication of SrTiO3@MoS2 Composite Nanofibers for Excellent Photodetector Application

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a kind of transition metal dichalcogenide, has been widely studied for its excellent compatibility with most of inorganic nanomaterials. Nevertheless, its microscale and agglomeration limit the performance severely. Therefore, the special structure of V-MoS2 has drawn a lot of interest, which can not only reduce the size of MoS2 nanosheets but also improve the valence electron structure of the materials. In this work, SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers were synthesized by the simple electrospinning and hydrothermal method, and it was applied as a novel material for photodetector. SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, I-T curves, and EIS analysis were used to study the structure and properties of the prepared SrTiO3@MoS2 composite nanofibers. Simulating under sunlight at a potential of 1.23 V, the prepared composite materials exhibited a superior photoelectric performance of photocurrent density of 21.4 μA and a resistance of 2.3 Ω. These results indicate that the composite of SrTiO3 nanofiber adhered with V-MoS2 has a stable composite structure, good electrical conductivity, and photoelectric sensitivity and is a suitable material for photodetectors. This work provides new ideas for the preparation of self-assembled materials and their application in photodetectors.

Preparation and High Photocurrent Generation Enhancement of Self-Assembled Layered Double Hydroxide-Based Composite Dye Films

Understanding photocurrent conversion of layered double hydroxide (LDH) materials will be a key step in the future application of these materials to light-capturing molecular devices. In the present study, ultrathin nickel-iron layered double hydroxide/dye (NF-LDH/dye) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) semiconductor films were prepared using an LB device and deposited on an indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate as a photoanode. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the prepared LB semiconductor film materials was tested. A comparative experiment was performed to effectively explore the photoelectric conversion performances of the LB semiconductor film materials. Specifically, the NF-LDH cast film electrode, the dye cast film electrode, and an ultrathin composite LB film electrode were used as typical samples to explore photoelectric conversion performances. The electrochemical workstation was used to study the photocurrent density, linear scanning voltammetry curve, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of LB film electrodes with different layers. The results show that the film electrode cast by LDH alone or dye alone produces weak photocurrent. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the LB film electrode is enhanced due to the different dyes' molecular structures and/or aggregations on the surface of LDH with various morphological patterns. The combined NF-LDH/dye composite LB film photoelectrode can generate a photocurrent that is 2-5 times stronger than the raw material, and the stable use efficiency is more than 92%. Present obtained composite LB films demonstrated a uniform morphology and good photoelectric conversion ability. This work provides a useful reference for the field of LDH semiconductor optoelectronic devices and solar cells.

Synergism of Multicomponent Catalysis: One-Dimensional Pt-Rh-Pd Nanochain Catalysts for Efficient Methanol Oxidation

Designing Pt-based alloy catalysts with multicomponent composition and a controllable structure is important to improve the utilization efficiency of precious metals and catalytic activity, but it still face a lot of challenges for simple preparation. Herein, we used insulin amyloid fibrils as templates and their own one-dimensional spiral structure to synthesize Pt-Rh-Pd ternary alloy nanochains under mild conditions. The prepared Pt-Rh-Pd alloy nanochains (NCs) have uniform diameter, and the particle size is only 2 nm. This ultrafine structure increases the specific surface area of the catalyst to a certain extent, and the synergistic effect of the three metals improves the catalytic performance. Compared with commercial Pt/C and binary Pt-Rh NCs, the as-presented Pt-Rh-Pd NCs show better methanol oxidation activity ability and stability against CO poisoning. The peak current density of front sweep is 1.48 mA cm-2, which is 1.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C (0.89 mA cm-2) and 1.4 times higher than that of the Pt-Rh NCs (1.07 mA cm-2), indicating great application potential as high-performance electrocatalysts in fuel cells.

An Integrating Platform of Ratiometric Fluorescent Adsorbent for Unconventional Real-Time Removing and Monitoring of Copper Ions

Nondegradable heavy metals have caused great dangers to the environment and human health. Combining stimuli-responsive materials with conventional MOF-based adsorbents has been considered an effective method to generate intelligent adsorbents for superior control over the adsorption process. Herein, a smart MOF-based ratiometric fluorescent adsorbent was designed to accurately monitor the progression of the removal of copper ions with dual-emitting fluorescence signal. Unlike the traditional difunctional materials, this delicately designed platform overcomes the huge energy gap to achieve two functions simultaneously. This unconventional platform provides a reliable fluorescent response toward Cu²⁺ during the removing process, changing linearly related to the degree of the adsorption process, which holds extreme promise in effectively monitoring the adsorption process. The underlying relationship of the adsorption and fluorescence response process toward copper was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In particular, because of the favorable ion binding affinity of ZIF-8 and self-calibrating effect of RhB, the as-prepared smart adsorbent demonstrates a superior adsorption performance of 608 mg g^-1, broad response range (0.05-200 ppm, 2.07 × 10^-7to 8.29 × 10^-4 M), ultrahigh sensitivity (0.04 ppm, 1.91 × 10^-7 M) toward Cu²⁺ and strong anti-interference ability. This smart adsorbent opens an intelligent pathway to promote substantial advancements in the fields of environmental monitoring and industrial waste management.

Fabrication of Hydrogels via Host-Guest Polymers as Highly Efficient Organic Dye Adsorbents for Wastewater Treatment

New self-assembled hydrogel materials of poly(vinyl alcohol)/cyclodextrin-modified poly(acrylic acid)/azobenzene-modified poly(acrylic acid) (PVA/PAA-CD/PAA-Azo) were successfully prepared via host-guest interactions and hydrogen bonds. The as-prepared hydrogel materials were characterized by various techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, and specific surface area tests. The prepared hydrogels with different concentrations of PVA exhibited different network structures. In addition, ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation and temperature change induce a gel-sol phase transition in the hydrogel materials. The obtained hydrogel materials could be used as good adsorbents for two model organic dye molecules, which was mainly due to electrostatic interactions between methylene blue/rhodamine B (MB/RhB) and the gels in the adsorption process. In particular, the adsorption processes of the as-prepared hydrogel materials conformed to the pseudo-first-order model with a high correlation coefficient, which indicates that gel has a potential application in the field of wastewater purification.

Self-assembled functional components-doped conductive polypyrrole composite hydrogels with enhanced electrochemical performances

A conductive hydrogel is a composite conductive material formed by combining a conductive polymer with a nanogel structure of a hydrogel. Conductive hydrogels not only have potential applications in supercapacitors, sensors, and modulators, they can also be synthesized by many methods, such as copolymerization, crosslinking, and grafting. In this work, we successfully prepared three conductive composite hydrogels by in situ polymerization, namely polypyrrole sodium alginate conductive hydrogel, ferric chloride-doped polypyrrole sodium alginate hydrogel and doped polypyrrole sodium alginate hydrogel with sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate. In addition, a series of characterizations were performed for the three conductive hydrogels described above. The results show that the polypyrrole sodium alginate hydrogel doped with ferric chloride forms a nanofiber network with a more stable structure and better electrochemical performance.

New functional components-doped conductive polypyrrole composite hydrogels are prepared via a self-assembled process, demonstrating potential applications in catalysis as well as electrochemical materials.

Fabrication of CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogels for highly efficient catalytic reduction of organic pollutants

In this study, natural polymer material chitosan (CS) and graphene oxide (GO) with large specific surface area were used to prepare a new CS/RGO-based composite hydrogel by using glutaraldehyde (GA) as cross-linking agent. In addition, a CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogel was prepared by loading palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs). The morphologies and microstructures of the prepared hydrogels were characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, TG, and BET. The catalytic performance of the CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogel was analyzed, and the experimental results showed that the CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogel had good catalytic performance for degradation of p-nitrophenol (4-NP) and o-nitroaniline (2-NA). Therefore, this study has potential application prospect in wastewater treatment and provides new information for composite hydrogel design.

New functional CS/GA/RGO/Pd composite hydrogels are prepared via a self-assembly process, demonstrating potential applications in catalysis as well as composite materials.
