Abstract
Dietary intake of natural substances to regulate physiological functions is currently regarded as a potential way of promoting health. As one of the recommended dietary ingredients, phytosterols that are natural bioactive compounds distributed in plants have received increasing attention for their health effects. Phytosterols have attracted great attention from scientists because of many physiological functions, for example, cholesterol-lowering, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects. In addition, the physiological functions of phytosterols, the purification, structure analysis, synthesis, and food application of phytosterols have been widely studied. Nowadays, many bioactivities of phytosterols have been assessed in vivo and in vitro. However, the mechanisms of their pharmacological activities are not yet fully understood, and in-depth investigation of the relationship between structure and function is crucial. Therefore, a contemporaneous overview of the extraction, beneficial properties, and the mechanisms, as well as the current states of phytosterol application, in the food field of phytosterols is provided in this review.

Abstract
This review aims to identify in vivo studies investigating the potential of plant substances and their natural molecules in managing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Specifically, the objective is to examine the impact of these substances on interleukins and other key inflammatory signaling markers. Relevant articles published up to December 2022 were identified through a search of the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases. The search used keywords including "inflammatory bowel disease", "medicinal plants", "natural molecules", "anti-inflammatory", and "ulcerative colitis", and identified 1,878 potentially relevant articles, of which 89 were included in this review after completion of the selection process. This study provides preclinical data on natural products (NPs) that can potentially treat IBD, including ulcerative colitis. The main actions of these NPs relate to their effects on nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway, the regulation of T helper 17/regulatory T cells balance, and oxidative stress. The ability of these NPs to inhibit intestinal inflammation appears to be dependent on lowering levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-17, via the Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)1, NF-κβ-p65, and STAT3 pathways. In addition, NPs were shown to reduce oxidative stress and the severity of ulcerative colitis, as well as increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes. These actions suggest that NPs represent a promising treatment for IBD, and potentially have greater efficacy and safety than current treatments.

Abstract
Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) as the main traditional crop in China, is rich in many kinds of high quality fatty acids (FAs). In this study, Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-time-of-flight-tandem mass spectrometer (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was used to determine the lipids of JG35 and JG39. A total of 2,633 lipid molecules and 31 lipid subclasses were identified, mainly including thirteen kinds of glycerophospholipids (GP), eleven kinds of glycerolipids (GL), four kinds of sphingolipids (SP), two kinds of fatty acyls (FA) and one kind of sterol (ST). Among them JG35 had higher contents of diacylglycerols (DG) and ceramides (Cer), while triacylglycerols, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidic acid, sterol, fatty acyls and pardiolipin (TG, PE, PA, ST, FA and CL) were higher in JG39. Meantime, the correlation analysis of lipidomics and transcriptomics was used to map the main differential lipid metabolism pathways of foxtail millet. The results shown that a differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of FATA/B for the synthesis of FA was highly expressed in JG35, and the related genes for the synthesis DG (ACCase, KAS, HAD, KCS, LACS and GAPT), TG (DGAT and PDAT) and CL (CLS) were highly expressed in JG39. The results of this study will provide a theoretical basis for the future study of lipidomics, improvement of lipid quality directionally and breeding of idiosyncratic quality varieties in foxtail millet.

Abstract
Cancer traits dependent chemo and radiotherapy display acute toxicity and long-term side effects. Since last two decades, researchers investigated a new anticancer agents derived from plants. Cassia alata (L.) is a medicinal herb distributed in the tropical and humid regions. In this study, C. alata flower methanol extract (CME) have been prepared using cold percolation method and the phytochemical components were identified using GC–MS analysis. CME have been used to study the antiproliferative and apoptosis properties against human colon cancer HT-115 colon cancer cells, its molecular mechanism have been explored. 0.2 mg/mL dose of CME, inhibited 50% of HT-115 colon cancer cell growth after 48hr was confirmed the significant antiproliferation effect. In normal cells such as Vero cells and hMSCs, 0.2 mg/mL dose of CME shown only 4% and 5% growth inhibition confirmed the HT-115 cell specific cytotoxic effect. This effect might be due to the availability of phytoactive biomolecules in CME such as, cyclotrisiloxan, beta-sitosterol and alpha-tocopherol have been confirmed by GC–MS. Most interestingly, PI and AO/ErBr staining of CME treated HT-115 cells shown early (25%), pro (17%) and late (8%) apoptotic and 3% necrotic cells after 48 hr. Treatment with CME extract showed potential effect on the inhibition of protumorigenic inflammatory and oxidative stress genes. Protumorigenic COX-2/PGE-2 and TNF-α/NF-κB immune axis were normalized after CME treatment. Amounts of both apoptosis related mRNA p53, Bax, caspase 3 and p21 genes were upregulated, whereas it resulted in significant reduction in the anti-apoptotic marker mdm2 and Bcl-2 genes. In conclusion, bioactive compounds present in CME potentially inhibit HT-115 colon cancer cell proliferation via an inhibition of protumorigenic immune axis and stimulation of mitochondria dependent apoptotic pathway without necrotic effect.
